This is not going well for the Jets negotiating position.

Gonna hate seeing him on the pats next year.

Sure hope Mac can manage a deal with Snacks. He may not be Kris Jenkins but he's the best of what the league has to offer in Nose Tackles right now.

I see Snacks on a different team next year. Pretty good against the run but I think he's replaceable because we can find another big body to plug there. With Williams, Mo and Richardson his job is much easier than it would be on diff teams

He's much more then pretty good against the run. He's the best.

Yes, the rest of the D line helps, but he helps them big time also. He will be badly missed. He's more then just a big body, he's extremely quick for a big man

This is probably exactly what the FO would like to do also. Much easier said then done. Richardson has really put the team in a bad situation. I just don't think the guy gets it.

Keep in mind that this isn't a situation where the kid was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, screwed up and smoked some weed, and put his career in jeopardy. Under the CBA he has had to fail at least 5 tests to put himself in this position, facing a 10 game suspension next fail. And an indefinite the time after that. Before they are busted the first time players are only tested once a year,in camp, and they know when. How stupid must a player be to get caught? Once they are in the drug program, they can be tested any time the league desires. Multiple times a week if they want. Usually right after, or during, week ends. Does any one think Richardson is never going to smoke again?

I suppose it's possible he cleans up his act, and never takes another toke again, but.....................................

Consider this. The day before the 143 mph resisting the police story broke, he told all the media, the 4 game suspension for weed would be the last time they would have negative headlines about him. Gave his word. He was saying this knowing the Mo. story was about to break. Got to question his sincerity. LOL

As we all know the NFL is very arbitrary about handing out suspensions. They are right now awaiting the court system in Mo. to rule on Richardson's case. This is kind of odd because in the past they moved against players, based on the NFL's own investigation, before the court process was over.

The arresting officer put in his complaint that he smelled pot in the car. Which may, or may not be true. The NFL under the CBA can't hit Richardson with the 10 game pot suspension because they don't have a failed test. That rule is solid.

They can under the conduct detrimental to the league rule do almost anything they want to him based on his prior history. IMO he will be starting next season suspended again. Probably a min. of 4 games. Perhaps more.

Right now Richardson has 0 trade value. No one is offering up fair compensation for him. it is not likely, but possible, that Richardson is out of the league in a year or so.

If Macc pulls that off not only is he a great GM, I'll suspect he has supernatural powers.

Harrison also benefits from having two all pro DE/DT on each side of him.

I like Snacks but if we want difference makers, you gotta keep Mo and roll the dice on Richardson and hope he doesn't screw up again

For this year? Sure. Richardson is under contract.

How about next year when he's in his contract year, and is screaming to be paid as the highest paid DL in all of football. And he will.

Are you going to fork over $120,000,000 to a guy who's one toke away from a 10 game suspension?

If you fork over that money it better be more then hoping he doesn't screw up

Doesn't he have a 5th year option that the Jets can pick up for 2017 as well? Or is he only on a 4 year deal? Then they could franchise and trade if need be.....

Honestly :global (11): much about the rules of the 5th year option

What value do you think he has? One more toke in his whole career, and he misses at least 10 games. I think he's a hard sell by a GM to an owner to fork over multiple draft picks, and guarantee in the area of $60,000,000.

This article seems to indicate that yes, the Jets will have the 5th year option.

Fifth-year option tracker for 2012 first-round picks

The deadline has passed for NFL teams to make a decision on their 2012 draft class. The rookie wage scale created in 2011 requires that all first-year players sign four-year deals. For players taken in the first round, the club has the option to extend the contract for one extra season. The fifth year is guaranteed for injury when the option is used.

The fifth-year salary varies depending on how high the player was drafted. The top 10 selections receive a salary equal to the average of the 10 highest salaries. For the remainder of the first round, the wage is the average of the third through twenty-fifth highest salaries at the position.

Indianapolis made an easy decision to pick up Andrew Luck's fifth-year option, but other franchises are in a tougher predicament.

Yeah, I understand he is a risk but I think that his value has nowhere to go but up. We move on him now and I think we get no better than a conditional 3rd Rd pick. If he can keep his nose clean, he will likely recoup a lot of his value.

If he is 2 or 3 year removed from his issues, I think we'd have a lineup of suitors.

Yeah synthetic weed isn't tested for, but it does have it's drawbacks as Chandler Jones just discovered

Jets want to do anything in Fa than probably have to trade M Wilkerson. Signing Snacks is going to cost 6 million per year. Franchise tag for Muhammad Wilkerson is Sixteen million . Sheldon Richardson making 3. Something million. Trading Sheldon Richardson does what for your cap. The jets want to fill there holes might have to move Wilkerson.

Looks like the Jets keep either Mo Wilkerson or Snacks .

I hate to say it, but your probably right. That might just be the plan.

Mo's a local kid, drafted by the Jets and a very good player. I would really like for them to find a way to keep him. It just looks like he is asking for more then Macc is willing to pay.

Only hope I see here is that perhaps his broken leg scared him. It could have just as easily been a knee, or an Achilles. That would have destroyed his position in contract negotiations.

A players biggest fear is to suffer a serious injury while playing under the Tag.

Thing is, can they get market value if they decide to move him. I definitely don't want to see him go under value

Everytime I think teams will be reluctant to give up draft picks , and sign a player to a massive contract.( some team does just that see Revis- Now for argument sake, what do the Jets do if they tag Wilkerson 16 million) and can't find someone to trade him to.
That's a lot of money on the Jets cap ( Revis is making how much again), and is that going to prevent them from addressing the holes on their team.

The point I'm making it isn't as easy decision that it appears to be to tag or not to tag Muhammad Wilkerson.( their always a risk, but like with Revis - could be a big reward).
