Wait until he's cut then snag him then, and bring him in to compete in camp with the other 89.

Mr. Whitworth is obsolete in Cincinnati, with Andre Smith at RT and after drafting two OT's in the first two rounds, he's no longer wanted or needed with the Bengals:

... but we will gladly take him here with the Jets. :smiley-cool11:

I'm all for it but what do you do with D'Brick? RT?

If anything, Mac will draft Brick's eventual replacement next year. The goal for this year was obviously to fortify the interior OL, both for the short and long term. He has clearly done that with Carpenter, Harrison and others to go along with holdovers Oday, Winters, Colon and Dozier. I also agree that Gailey's scheme will help the current OL group in that the ball should get out sooner whether it is out of Geno's or Fitz's hand.

I dont think we are sending a player at teh Snacks level for Whitworth. If they decide that they dont need him, I think the question is what level of 2016 draft pick a guy with his skills and age gets. Maybe a 4th?

It's hard to say what this OL will be with so many new factors involved...players, coaching, scheme, QB play and the surrounding talent. The Cowboys have a great OL but it wouldn't have helped our talent last season. This unit is a question mark but I expect improved play because we have the talent around to make plays.

Snacks? More than a 4th. Any team running a 3-4 (more than half the league) without a good, young, healthy NT would be in on him. The only recent comparison that comes to mind is we traded a 3rd and 5th for Kris Jenkins, who was neither young or healthy (but he was an utter beast).

I'll say it again guys, don't get too hung up on he Snacks part of this equation, that was just one suggestion, if we can get him for cheaper, great, but the main thing is that it now looks like Whitworth can probably be had from the Bengals.

Agreed. I think the first call to Bengals is.....so about Whitworth. You drafted those two guys - great gets - and looks like he isnt thrilled. We are still looking to improve on the OL, so think about us if you want to resolve his unhappiness. You probably dont want to pay that much to an unhappy 34 year old. Ya know the old saying, deal them one year too soon, right......We'd definitely give you something for him. If you do move him, what would you be looking for......"

the question is how much are you willing to pay him for the contract extension he's gonna want. he's still a very good player, but after this year, he will be a 34-year old tackle looking for a last pay day.

I'd give him a two year extension, three years in total, which would take him to 35. He's still playing at an extremely high level and OL's tend to age well, so I think we can squeeze three good years out of him at RT, which wouldn't deter us from drafting Brick's replacement at LT next year too.

How much?

I don't know, whats the going rate for a good RT, two additional years for 7 or 8 million per?
