We knew all along he's not a typical 2nd rounder, mac felt if he could be fixed, he could be a beast.

yes, that been the jets caveat since drafting the kid..

but again, at this point in his "development" under the jets watchful eyes, they want absolutely no parts of him seeing the field sunday..

no way to spin that in a positive light, IMO..

Listen,I hated the pick, we needed an impact player.
But I'm not surprised, this has been the story all along,he wasn't supposed to play this year,he is a major project. Not common in modern nfl, but how the old guys used to be groomed. The Jets are dedicating a lot to develop him.
We don't need him this week, Fitz is healthy and a better qb right now. And an injury to Fitz is palatable as a sacrificial lamb.

Let's take the loss with a healthy hack, and enter the off season with good draft position. Why act like this game matters, or who QB's matters?

If we fire these hacks as coaches what does that do to Hackenberg's development?

Maybe he is not ready for NFL action???? Could he be that far behind? Could he have been a bad pick for now. I want him in to but if this could damage him I don't

Exactly, I don't get why everyone is so panicked to rush him into a meaningless game.

Personally if I'm looking to get a rookie reps, first I want a line to protect him. I want him safe so he can go through progressions and work on his game. You're not improving if you're running for your life, hack is not Michael Vick.

The most important thing is that Mac recognizes he needs to invest, HEAVILY, in the offensive line. In my view all jobs are open except Carpenters.

i'd rather see him than fitz, but i understand if he's just not ready.

you know who also is not ready to play QB in the nfl - jared goff, the #1 overall pick, and paxton lynch, a 1st rounder many here wanted the jets to take.

yeah, i'm on the side that some experience is better than none, especially in a completely meaningless game (except for draft position). but i'm not gonna go too overboard in bashing the team if they don't feel he's ready to compete against nfl players. especially behind this patchwork (and terrible) line.

Exactly. A great OL makes any QB better. Dak Prescott is doing great because of that OL and RB. Dak would have 4 wins with the Jets. Maybe 5 because he is way better than any of the trash the Jets have had in many years.

how badly not ready can Hack be?

and what would be the effect of "not ready"?

we could lose - okay

he could look bad - okay

he could get hurt physically - not good

he could get scarred mentally - really? in one game?

on the other hand, he could learn from the experience - learn what he doesnt know, what he needs to know - get some exposure to NFL football for real

the team could see where he stands - beyond practice - we are talking about practice - oops - even if the front office thinks they know where he is, would not game play tell them more?

fitz makes no sense to me

Yes and no. Would you play a qb who has not seen a single practice snap all year?
Would you put your potential future starter behind our shitty line, in a meaningless game? This game doesn't affect his play next year.

Playing time is certainly important, but if he's not progressed to the point that he's ready to see action, it hurts, not helps. Under pressure, all of your bad habits come out. The point of this red shirt year,is for hack to get a lot of reps with correct mechanics. I think Gailey said 1000 snaps to change habits. That way, he can start practicing with the correct mechanics next pre season.

I do get wanting to see what you have in him, but perhaps, the coaches already know where he's at. They see him every day.

Also, do you want hack getting guys hurt,if he isn't ready to see the field? He needs to audible, call blockers, shift players, and throw. He cab get linemen hurt,if we had any left, and you can kill awr on a bad throw.

I agree, very good post. Let the coaches decide. Fans tend to be fanatical.
