I know Fant had off season knee surgery and they are probably easing him back in, but what if he is holding out for even more money now that he is the starting left tackle? Thats one problem I had with naming him so early if no contract extension was worked out. Just my tinfoil hat thought.

I think he still has to lose some weight.

I think he named Fant because it is early in camp and the coaches haven't had the opportunity to see how healthy Becton might be.

Maybe not but it should be. Like @SackExchange said it’s what’s best for the team. The Jets have seen Fant at RT and LT but only have seen Becton at LT . They have no idea how Becton will perform at RT but feel better with him there and Fant
