Strategy on Rodgers cap hit

I think the presumption has been all along that the Jets would make Rodgers a post-June 1 cut. But if the free agency market does not go the Jets' way, at what point would it make more sense to take the full cap hit this year and free up the money for next? I am fairly certain the team will invest the $10-15 million per for Fields. From there, perhaps a RT, a WR2, and a CB2 might be in order. I think if things don't break the Jets' way on one or more of those positions, it might be best to take the big hit this year.

Disaster here we come . Let’s get a failed QB from two other teams .
He was 4 and 2 and tomlin yanked him and brought in another old man not continuing with the new young guy . He knows his athletes.

Don’t want him here as much if not more than guys not wanting Rodgers anymore

Meh. Does he give me great confidence? No. But he also would be a very low risk. And I'm not sure this franchise could do much better right now, not at this stage.

It might make a lot of sense to tank, anyway. Take the big cap hit, tank, maybe even trade out of #7 for more draft capital for next year, and have some draft flexibility for next year's far better QB draft crop.

I understand where you are coming from here, but............first off, I don't think tank is a word that is even in Glenn's vocabulary, and secondly we have some good young players that want to compete and produce good tape to bolster their futures. So consequently I don't envision the season going in that direction.

I don't think anyone tanks deliberately. But if they take on the full Rodgers cap hit this year, that will severely limit how well the team could do. He could still get his guys to play hard, but if he gets buy-in on the long term approach and the team does not seriously compete this year, it might be the best thing for the franchise.

Maybe, maybe not. I think it might be difficult to get max effort out of the players if it was obvious to them that they weren't given the best chances of winning by adding talent this season. But it could go either way. Only time will tell. We'll probably have a better idea on this subject after we see what Glenn and Mouge do in free agency.

Tank ????!
I thought the franchise new regime told us we are in the win now mode?
“ we’re the fucking jets “
Be careful what you say to the public Mr Glenn

I think they should take the hit now. They do that and it's off the books for the 5th yr option years or newly extended deals for Sauce and Wilson. It will be a hard pill to swallow but it's the sound financial move if they truly want to keep the core together.

The Jets most likely won’t need to tank. That will just happen naturally with the disasters they have to get themselves out of from the past year’s moves. Unless a miracle happens, this team wins no more than 5 games next year regardless.

Really doesn't matter what the record is next year. If they are competitive it's an improvement. I'll be happy with 3 wins and 14 close losses. I'm tired of the embarrassing blowout losses of recent years. If they can do that, next year with another round of free agency and draft class they should start winning more consistently..

I would have let Rodgers stay if he played for the amount that it will cost us if we cut him anyway. That way we get something for the money.

at this point, I’d take the full hit this year and let Tyrod play. He doesn’t suck

Id invest every other penny that I could in guys that keep Tyrod on his feet. Preferably guys that aren’t and don’t get injured

none of it matters anyway cause the jets will always be the jets

Yes. The jets tank every year. Not on purpose. It’s easy for them

This.
It's going to be another transition Season no matter who is behind Center.
I think they will be better than 3 wins but not by much.
Depends on FA and the draft but I think they might be a little better than We think.

Depending on what moves the Jets make from now until the season starts, will determine what their season can possibly look like. I can’t see them having a playoff type season this year but a competitive (we’re coming type season), now that is very possible. Coaching and players health obviously plays a big part as well.

Build the team up correctly in the trenches first and foremost and hopefully the rest of the positions will figure themselves out. The Jets can go in a few different directions as far as the QB situation is concerned. Hopefully none of it involves trading up for either one of the suppose top two quarterbacks. Don’t reach for any position at this point, especially QB.

Draft correctly, sign and trade for the right players and it’ll all come together a lot sooner than we think. We have to have faith in this new regime and the fact that Woody will stay the freak out the way and let them do their damn jobs. This shit show has to turn around sooner or later, why not now!!!

As opposed to all those coaches who have said that their team is in a win later mode.
But that’s exactly what we always hear from woody . Playoffs are not a mandate .
Play hard
Be competitive
Show improvement
Built in excuses
Equals
Win later mode
