Zach Wilson from jump street never earned:

  • the job title QB1
  • the respect of his team mates
  • the "C" on his jersey
He has the arm talent for the deep ball "HERO" mentality
He has the competitive feel for the game
He has the drive and willingness to be the man

Problem is, he needs to earn his position, he needs to earn his team mates respect and he needs to earn that captain status which they were all handed to him... So he is an entitled rich kid that was given everything and he feels he deserves it all and that is why the locker room treats him as such on the football field on game days...

The Jets brass needs to consider benching him for the remainder of the season, not to punish him but for him to earn it back... Before he gets himself hurt... He needs to throw those easy ones until they are second nature... He needs to understand check downs are a quarterbacks best friend at this level... He has to know and feel that when shit breaks down it is okay to throw it away or take off and run... Fighting for the next down, next drive, next game is what it is all about but he is looking to strike gold on one attempt, that is HERO mentality that needs to be removed from his mindset...

I am not saying he can not develop into that guy, but benching him will determine if his mindset is fractured or strong... If benched will he go to uncle and cry that they took his job away or will he buckle down and work to earn it back? Did the Jets front office reach with this selection? Did they not do the proper homework on this kid? Starting to look like they got infatuated with his big arm but forgot to look at what he can do in the short game... I understand college is about how far and accurate you can throw it, it is not sexy to see a Mac Jones at Alabama use his check downs to survive but proves he was more NFL ready then all these big arms that were drafted ahead of him...

With a Joe Flacco, with a Josh Johnson, or with a Mike White the Jets coaching staff can evaluate over the course of the final four games who is or who has potential moving forward... We are stuck with Wilson but no need to continue to witness his lack of willingness to succeed, skip to my lou my darling he has skipped more passes this season then I am willing to see in my life time from a potential starting QB in the NFL...

Wilson like Lawrence is stuck with a below average team. He was not drafted onto a team with talent around him like the Bills, Ravens or the Browns. Yes the Browns. The Browns started drafting their team. Key Offense and Key Defensive players before they went all in on a QB. The Browns then started paying for key players. There QB has had his ups and downs, but his team is better then the Jets and there producing wins. The Jets with a better surrounding cast, RB's that can catch and produce 100+rushing yard games, a RG that can pass block and run block, a defense that can play Defense, players that are better conditioned and you'll see a whole different QB in Wilson. Five high picks in the next 3 Rds, a couple of nice FA's additions and players coming back from this years IR will do wonders for Wilson for next season.

Unless the team around him gets better, he is destined to be like Archie Manning - getting his ass kicked every game, but sometimes making some spectacular plays.

This kid is nothing like Archie Manning. The original manning was special.

if they game plan to run the 2 minute no huddle offense from the start next week wonder if that would improve his overall game

no thinking just firing and targeting certain areas of the field no matter who is the target Jets players, Dolphin players, referees just fling it have fun and say fuck the police... <<<< bad pun I know but you get my meaning >>> I hope...

wow...so much to unpack in the initial post. Let's start with the not earning stuff.

a.) how do you know that he hasn't earned the respect of his team? because....
b.) his team voted him to have the "C" on his jersey.
c.) you don't draft a QB with the #2 overall selection to not give him the starting gig "if" there in "not" a clear cut starter on the team to challenge, or sit behind to learn.
d.) i never see anything about a spoiled rich kid except for here. anything you hear from 1 Jets Drive is how hard he works and studies.

Robert Saleh mentioned that the coaching staff voted for him for captain, is that a good answer?

You don't draft a QB period that needs to start day one...
Patrick Mahomes sat a year
Aaron Rodgers sat multiple years
both turned out fine
there was no rush to put him in when the team clearly this year was about evaluation of the roster
as for spoiled rich kid, it is all over social media and beat writers not just in New York

team voted for him. Saleh announced it.

Two Schools of thought on day 1 starters...(1.) is the Mahomes, and Rodgers route, because they had a (from my post) a clear cut starter on the team to challenge, or sit behind to learn. (2.) let them play and grow, because there is no veteran presence.
In a perfect world, you're right...don't draft a kid because he has to start. Jets are far from perfect.

I googled "Zach Wilson is a spoiled rich kid". the only stuff that came up was pre-draft.

The quote from the article:

In speaking to a director of college scouting from a NFC team that is in the market for a new quarterback, he outlined the makeup concerns with Wilson:
"Johnny Manziel comp without the [drugs]. [Wilson] is fun to watch, but is he a 1-year flash in the pan? He's a backyard baller who is fun to watch."
"Someone will grab him in the first [round]. I doubt he gets to the second [round] because once the third quarterback goes, after Lawrence and Fields, there will be a run on them. [Wilson] has character concerns, rich kid who is an entitled brat - uncle owns Jet Blue -, parents are a pain, not a leader, selfish, and he's a know-it-all.

at the end of the day the proof is in the actions on the field

when he gets hit, does his team come to his rescue

no, not like they did for Mike White, or Josh Johnson even Joe Flacco

when he throws an interception do they pat him on the back or helmet and say don't let that bother you, you we got your back no...

the actions don't justify the way they supposedly saw him in the offseason during training camp naming him the captain it doesn't add up...

is he throwing bad balls? yes.

is he progressing fast enough through reads to go from "pushing the ball to the first option" to "taking the gimmees/ hitches" mostly not.

is he hesitant to check down? maybe.

I haven't seen the affects of him being shell-shocked by being hit so much in the first few games; however, he might be showing other signs that are troubling:

1.) his receivers drop balls. a lot of them.
2.) his receivers do not make highlight reel catches.

I am wondering if we are seeing a bit of "how do i place this in your hands sy" on some easy throws where he has a chance to think, or in his case overthink? the tweet you posted with him on the run, or sliding in the pocket, he seemed to let his motion go on cruise control. when he has time, he seems like he is battling "is this throw too hard for the receiver", "is this throw too soft for the receiver", "will he catch up to it if i lead him", "should i stick it right on him" etc.

LaFleur and Beck need to tell him "stick the ball on him however you do it, and let them catch it".
when they don't, they go away.

I watched Jimmy G throw to a spot and Kittle made catch after catch...amazing catches.
we need a freakin' act of congress for a Jet to make a grab on his back shoulder....and then fans complain the pass wasn't perfect!

KNOW WHAT HE ISN'T DOING?

throwing into double and trip coverage.
throwing off his back foot.
getting fooled by making incorrect reads.

he is making progress!

from the same article with the same scout:

“His positives are that he’s super competitive, not to get scared and won’t back down, extremely confident, very smart with keen recall and teammates will play for him.”

tell me have you watched any games this year?
and in those games when he got sacked, hit late or even when he ran it and dove or slid down did his team mates come to his rescue?
that is a telling feat in itself...
