Zach Wilson from jump street never earned:
He has the competitive feel for the game
He has the drive and willingness to be the man
Problem is, he needs to earn his position, he needs to earn his team mates respect and he needs to earn that captain status which they were all handed to him... So he is an entitled rich kid that was given everything and he feels he deserves it all and that is why the locker room treats him as such on the football field on game days...
The Jets brass needs to consider benching him for the remainder of the season, not to punish him but for him to earn it back... Before he gets himself hurt... He needs to throw those easy ones until they are second nature... He needs to understand check downs are a quarterbacks best friend at this level... He has to know and feel that when shit breaks down it is okay to throw it away or take off and run... Fighting for the next down, next drive, next game is what it is all about but he is looking to strike gold on one attempt, that is HERO mentality that needs to be removed from his mindset...
I am not saying he can not develop into that guy, but benching him will determine if his mindset is fractured or strong... If benched will he go to uncle and cry that they took his job away or will he buckle down and work to earn it back? Did the Jets front office reach with this selection? Did they not do the proper homework on this kid? Starting to look like they got infatuated with his big arm but forgot to look at what he can do in the short game... I understand college is about how far and accurate you can throw it, it is not sexy to see a Mac Jones at Alabama use his check downs to survive but proves he was more NFL ready then all these big arms that were drafted ahead of him...
With a Joe Flacco, with a Josh Johnson, or with a Mike White the Jets coaching staff can evaluate over the course of the final four games who is or who has potential moving forward... We are stuck with Wilson but no need to continue to witness his lack of willingness to succeed, skip to my lou my darling he has skipped more passes this season then I am willing to see in my life time from a potential starting QB in the NFL...
