How bout Ziggy Ansah?

Plays 4-3 DE for the Lions, 6' 5"/270, but he ran in the 4.5's when he came out for the draft.

I think he can by a dynamic 3-4 RUSH OLB

Anyway, other than CJ or Matt Stafford, thats the only player on the Lions roster I would take for Wilkerson.

I thought about him too, but I dont think there is any way they move him. I see him as the face of the defense with Suh gone...but he and wilkerson are both 25 (Ansah turns 26 Friday). Eh, the kid can play. Wouldn't be a bad deal for the Jets, IMO. Ansah, Richardson, and Williams...wow...

Guys .... Why trade him now ?, ... we can get the same value for him after the season before the next draft .... and we would have an additional year of service out of him (playing at 150 percent for his next contract)

If we trade him now we get an IOU on a player of his caliber for the 2015 season, and he would most likely will improve the team we trade him to by at least 2 or 3 wins, thus diminishing the value of the pick we traded him for.

Well, his contract is up after this year, and we don't have enough cap room to tag him right now...so we'd have to cut some roster just to tag him...let alone also clear room to sign next year's draft class.

My bet would be we get something done during the season. But if not, I'm not a huge fan of him counting 15 mill per year as a cap hit. Tough pill to swallow. Easier to spread out the money.

But you're probably right, they likely tag him at year end, rework Cro and/or skrines deal, and tag him and keep trying to get something done before the draft.

Shit. If you tell me we're getting back a top 10 pick in the draft for Wilkerson, I do it tomorrow. Better chance than not we need one of those guys...and if we have a top 10 pick for Wilkerson, then you use your 1 and 2 with your top 10 and get into the top 4 you get one pro ready QB. Cook, Hack, Jones, and Goff likely all in the mix for the top of the draft...Hack, Cook, Goff, and Jones my order...

I think trading him to a team with the best chance to get a top 10 pick is what needs to be done. If Williams was drafted as insurance of this then it makes it easier to swallow. A top ten pick and a pick in the high teens/low 20's can getus into the top 5 or 3 of next years draft to take a franchise qb which this team needs. Mo wont win you a super bowl, a qb can. If he is our best piece that can get us that then he needs to be traded for that piece.

why would a team that's probably looking to draft in the top 10 next year trade its 1st round pick for a guy looking for a mega-contract? teams picking that low would look to restock their rosters with young, cheap (relatively speaking) talent; not to give up a premier pick for a guy looking for a huge payday. it seems a team looking to compete now would be more likely to make a move for mo to enhance their chances this year...but those teams likely are picking late in the 1st

if you trade him instead of after the season, it's a gamble, but you're more likely to move him to a team you may project to pick in the top 10.

No team right now thinks they will be picking in the top 10. Heck, we're coming off a 4 win season and no one on our board sees us winning less than 8 games...I bet every board feels that way right now.

message boards don't make the trades. GM's do. if you were the GM of a team where you looking at a possible down season (like has been suggested with chicago), would you give up a 1st rounder (which may be a top 10 pick) for a DE entering his last season and looking for a contract that will guarantee him something in the $40MM plus range?

put it another way, would you trade the jets 1st rounder next year for a (non-QB) player on another team who is looking for a a $40MM+ payday?

I'd say as of today, Jets and Bears are in similar boats, right? Picked 6 and 7 in the draft and Bears may feel Fox is the Cutler whisperer and Cutler, White, Jeffrey, Forte, and Bennet get them 10 wins...fans probably do feel that way.

So in your scenario, if I am GM of the Jets, and I was asked, would I trade next year's #1 for 25 year old Robert Quinn? Yes, sir. Yes, sir I would. :)

Dont we think we'd be getting Quinn and his 45 career sacks (in 4 years, including a 19 sack season) for a pick in the 20s? No brainer. Im sure the Bears fans feel the same way right now. ;)

Now, if I were GM of the Bears and not a fan...no way in hell i do the trade. I think that is the answer you are looking for, but the Bears arm chair GM perspective, I would.

My guess is, Bears GM is looking closely at next years draft class and no way they move the #1 pick. They likely think they can move up the board and snatch Goff or Jones...like 15 other teams (including the Jets) are thinking...

so you would use yet another #1 pick for a d-lineman??? :)

if you said a top LT or maybe justin houston, i can see the argument. not sure of any top OTs about to hit FA though.

Quinn can play OLB, IMO, he's the same size as Pace.

Not that we have any cap space next year (we dont), but next year's FA class is stacked. Hell, Julio, Dez, AJ Green, Jeffrey, Demarius Thomas, TY Hilton...etc...Houston, Von Miller, Kerrigan, JPP, Hardy, Aldon Smith, River, Eli, Bradford at QB...but for OT - Trent Williams, Cordy Glenn Bills, Nate Solder, Matt Kalil, Andrew Whitworth, Andre Smith, ...and Russell Okung...

Did I mention next year's FA class is stacked...didnt even mention Mo, Bruce Irvin, Chandler Jones, Ngata, Poe, Phil Taylor, Fairley, MLB - Kendricks Bobby Wagner and Hightower for the Pats, Gilmore CB, Dareus DT, Viniateri and Gostowski at K...

seems like it would be unwise to give up a 1st and dole out a big contract when many of these guys could be had for just money a year from now. i'm sure other GMs would consider this if they were pondering giving up a 1st (if not a 1+) for mo.

I guess...I am sure GMs would also assume a lot of these guys will get tagged next year and wont be had for "just money'...;)

I also think a lot of available front seven guys on the market would drive down Mo's price, too. A flooded market means he has less leverage with the Jets.

Which guy in that list would you be okay replacing Mo with. My answer is none. Any team playing a 3-4 that needs a dlineman will have Mo far and away at the top of the list.

If you were arguing 3-4 OLB, agreed, but we are talking 3-4 des that can get you double digit sacks...there are only 2 on the planet, and Sheldon ain't one of them yet...neither is Wilkiams yet...Mo is a 25 year old known commodity and only JJ Watt does it better.

I laugh out loud when people on this board short change what Mo does, when only watt does it better. Like putting down luck cause he isn't aaron Rodgers...shameful some fans are...

I'm not short-changing anything. I've already said I want him to be a Jet.

But it's also about the market. And when there are several guys who fill the same need, supply and demand dictate that their demand is lower.

If one year, Andrew Luck, Kaepernick, Russell Wilson, RG3, and Alex Smith are all available, Luck will demand the most salary. But if in that same year, only Luck and Wilson make the market, Luck gets the most, AND he probably gets more than he would have as the top guy in a crowded field.

again, who can replace Mo that is a free agent next summer? I still say that person doesnt exist...if Williams doesnt pan out (read an interesting article that the jets are one of the only teams that had him at the top of their draft board and he was far from anyones #1 prospect...most scouts reportedly graded him out lower than Clowney, Suh, and Gerald McCoy, good, but a step below those 3)...where will we be minus Mo?

its easy to play the what if game...thats what we do on this board. But I ask you, who is Mo competing against next summer for 3-4 dlinemen? I say no one. Here's the list.

I agree that if Williams doesn't pan out AND the team trades Mo, there is a hole.

That is why I am in favor of using the THREE YEARS of control we have over Mo to see how it goes. If Williams is legit, maybe you deal Mo, if his asking price is unreasonable.

Concerning the salary cap, I had posted this in another Wilkerson thread.

"That's not exactly accurate. The cap is supposedly going to surpass $150 mil in 2016. Here's what we have so far. By the way, if we resign Mo, I believe Coples(who had his option picked up for 2016) will be traded. That will save $7 mil+."

http://overthecap.com/salary-cap/new-york-jets/

We'll have plenty of flexibility to keep Mo.

What if we don't re-sign Mo this season and he becomes a cancer to our younger players like Richardson or Williams ? We might be better off trading him now, to send a message to the rest of the team, that we will not renegotiate until the final year of a players contract like the Steelers.
I still say trade him to the Jags and will have a top 5 pick, which could be a new LT to groom for replacing Brick.
