Personally, Geno wont start becuase he probably wont be on the team once the season starts. With Mo being re-signed and how the news broke out, shocked every one. Leading to believe that the media has absolutley no iside track on how Mike Maccagnan operates.
I feel after Fitz re-signs (and i strongly feel its imminent), Geno will ask to be traded to a team where he can actually compete or a chance to. He knows very well once Ryan gets back in the fold, his reps will be lessoned and the two QBs that were signed the two past years are what this organization wants to place their time and effort into. Not Geno.

IMO Fitz will be resigned for a 1 year contract. His camp has leaked that he would sign for a 1 year 12 M contract. Before the Mo deal they couldn't take the cap hit this year for that contract. Depending who you believe, this Mo contract will free up 5-8 Million. Re-negotiate his friend Decker's contract, and they have the money to sign both Fitz, and Lee.
I also agree that Smith will start whining when that happens. This is his contract year, he badly needs to up grade his resume'. Getting a draft pick for this slug would make me very happy.
With all that said I strongly doubt it's going to happen. Bryce Petty is the worm in the ointment. I like Petty, but am very disappointed in what he did in OTA's and mini camp. He was awful the first few days, settled down a bit, and played Meh the rest of the way. Does this mean he's going to bust out? Of course not. But it is not a good sign for a 2nd year player, who the Jets need to be the back up if smith is jettisoned. In order to leave smith at the curb, Petty has to come out smoking in camp. As much as I'd like to see it, Not sure that is going to happen. Hackenberg isn't even in the conversation for this year.
Sadly I think we are in for one more year of this.
