Below is the story from cbssports. Dennis Hickey, the GM, and Joe Philbin, the HC, will all report to Tannenbaum.

It's also on ganggreennation. They make the point that Tannenbaum is Dan Quinn's agent. Not sure how the NFL will treat those negotiations when Quinn gets offered a HC job. I think Tannenbaum will have to resign as his agent.

Former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum will take over the Dolphins' football operations in the near future, sources told FOX Sports reporters Mike Garafolo and Alex Marvez.

Tannebaum was the Jets general manager from 2006-2012. The team had a 61-58 record while he was general manager. The Jets also reached the playoffs three times, including appearances in the AFC Championship game in 2009 and 2010.

Tannebaum was hired by the Dolphins to be a consultant in August. He was consulting on projects involving innovation, analytics and sports science, per NFL.com. Tannenbaum was also working as an agent with Priority Sports.

Former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum is likely to join the Miami Dolphins in a significant role within the organization, according to league sources.

While a deal is not yet complete, sources say one is considered likely to be done in the near future.

Fox Sports earlier reported news of the Dolphins' interest in hiring Tannenbaum.

The 45-year-old has worked with the Dolphins as a consultant since August, following 16 years with the Jets, the final seven of which were in a general manager capacity. Tannenbaum has a track record of being well versed in salary cap and contract negotiation matters.

The Dolphins hired Dennis Hickey to be their general manager last offseason, whose notable moves included drafting offensive tackle Ja'Wuan James in the first round out of Tennessee and signing offensive tackle Branden Albert in free agency.

The Dolphins finished 8-8 this past season, third in the AFC East.

Tannenbaum is currently serving as an agent and, among other clients, represents Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who has had several interviews for teams regarding their head coaching vacancies and is expected to continue to represent Quinn through a potential contract negotiation if he is offered a head coaching job.

Information from ESPN's Field Yates contributed to this report.

Let's say Quinn is the guy for the Jets HC vacancy, will Tannenbaum be the one negotiating it? I see that as a conflict of interest. Maybe the NFL does not care for that type of stuff.

I hope this has no effect on the possibility of hiring Quinn. There's a tremendous conflict of interest there!

This is an odd situation.

I wonder where this puts Dawn Aponte, the Dolphins VP of football administration. She was Tanenbaums right hand person on the cap for 10 years with the Jets.

It seems she had Ross' ear, or some other body part, and did a lot to undercut , Hickey this year. Or so the rumors go.

I mentioned that in another post when people were concerned with Woody saying he wasn't bound to hire a GM first. The She/Dawn was my real fear.

She has ambition to be a GM. Wouldn't be surprised if she is the Fish's next GM. As I recall she and Tanny are good buds

I like this one better..

4 things to know about Mike Tannenbaum joining the Dolphins
By Jared Dubin | CBSSports.com staff
January 6, 2015 3:33 pm ET

Former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum has been hired as the Executive Vice President of Football Operations for the Miami Dolphins. Tannenbaum had been working for Dolphins owner Stephen Ross as a consultant since August of 2014 in addition to his day job as a coaching agent (more on that below). Now, Tannenbaum returns to a lead football role. Here are some things to know as he prepares to take over in Miami.

1. Mike Tannenbaum's Jets tenure

Tannenbaum was the general manager of the New York Jets from 2007 through 2012, a period during which the team compiled a 57-55 record, mostly on the strength of Rex Ryan's dominant defenses. Tannenbaum's Jets went to the playoffs three times, reaching the AFC Championship Game twice in a row under Ryan in 2009 and 2010.

Tannenbaum drafted Darrelle Revis and Davis Harris in his first draft with the Jets, while he hit on Muhammad Wilkerson later in his tenure. However, he also selected Mark Sanchez the only time he picked a quarterback and whiffed on Vernon Gholston, Kyle Wilson and Stephen Hill (among others) and had a propensity to trade away draft picks.

In a league where teams are awarded seven selections a year, Tannenbaum's Jets made only 31 draft picks in seven years, an average of 4.4 per season. It's no wonder that by the time he was fired and replaced by the since-also-fired John Idzik, Tannenbaum left a roster that was woefully thin, especially on offense, where he failed to draft a single difference-maker in his tenure.

2. What happens to Dennis Hickey's role?

Mike Tannenbaum has been working for the Dolphins as a consultant since last August, and is now being elevated to the top role. According to Mike Garafolo and Alex Marvez, Tannenbaum is going to be in charge of football operations for Miami.

Dennis Hickey, meanwhile, was named the Dolphins' general manager before the 2014 season, taking over for Jeff Ireland as the top football man in the organization. Hickey had previously been with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization in some capacity since 1996, serving as a pro personnel assistant, college scout, director of college scouting and director of player personnel before leaving for Miami.

Hickey did a pretty solid job in the draft for Miami last year, scooping up right tackle Ju'Wuan James -- who started all 16 games -- and slot receiver Jarvis Landry, who turned into one of the best rookies in the NFL. The Dolphins also signed Brandon Albert, Brent Grimes, Cortland Finnegan and Knowshon Moreno in the 2014 offseason. Moreno got injured twice and missed most of the year, but Albert worked out very well (he graded as Pro Football Focus' eighth-best tackle) while Grimes and Finnegan played major roles in what was at times a very good Miami pass defense.

Hickey will now report to Tannenbaum, making for a somewhat crowded top of the organizational flowchart.

3. Tannenbaum represents Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn

After working for the Jets, Tannenbaum became a coaching agent for Priority Sports & Entertainment. As recently as last week, there were reports that Tannenbaum client Dan Quinn would be interviewing with the Jets and owner Woody Johnson would have to be negotiating with Tannenbaum.

Tannenbaum will continue to represent Quinn in his negotiations to possibly become a head coach, according to our Jason La Canfora.

Tannenbaum will continue to represent Dan Quinn. Ross has said he's not changing coaches. Some thought Quinn would emerge in Miami

And the other part of La Canfora's report leads us to...

4. The Joe Philbin situation

While Hickey will report to Tannenbaum, Adam Beasley of The Miami Herald reports that head coach Joe Philbin will not.

Update to @MikeGarafolo and @alexmarvez report: Dennis Hickey will report to Tannenbaum. Joe Philbin will not.
2:53 PM - 6 Jan 2015

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross insisted after their Week 16 game that Philbin's job was safe, and LaCanfora says the same, and now there's a report that Philbin will report directly to Ross. Nothing can possibly go wrong here.

If the Jets were smart they will file a complaint with the NFL, about the in fact GM of a division rival representing a potential HC candidate.

Weird stuff

If the Guy that wrote the article was smart he would know Tanny was the GM in 06 not 07... Your right about the complaint though Tanny may still be pissed at Woody for getting canned..

As I understand the new Stinking Fish structure, Hickey will report to Tannenboob but Regis will report directly to Ross-o the Clown, Ringmaster of the Circus

This should work out really well
