Your misunderstanding my post it seems, I'm with you 100 percent that Hack should be starting from game one and play the entire year. Problem with that is Hackenburg clearly hasn't shown that he deserves it. Now call TB what you want but but he has given Hack every opportunity to win the job and Hack just hasn't done it. Only other thing was to not have signed McCown in the first place but they would have signed another veteran. In that case, would Hack or Petty have beaten that guy out???Not much. But once again, this team is NOT going to win this season anyway. So what's the point in starting the guy who won the competition? This team is so talent depleted that ideally they should be chasing the number 1 pick. What sense does it make to install McCown as the starter and possibly jeopardize that chance at the 1st pick?
Moreover, the Jets CS needs to see once and for all if Hack or Petty or both are the future of this franchise. Otherwise, it's time to cut bait with them. They will not get an idea about either of them when they are on the bench. So in a vacuum, I can see your point, but you are leaving out the long term plans that SHOULD be at play here?
All I'm saying is it's not like Hack is tearing it up out there and they still won't give him the job. It's not like Hack hasn't had any opportunities to prove himself. He has and is coming up short. Like I've always said, either you have it or you don't and maybe Hack just doesn't. He sat the entire year so how much more damn time does the kid need? It's not like he's playing behind and even halfway decent or better then average QB like Alex Smith or Colin Kaepernick where the competition would be much tougher.
If Hack can't beat out McCown then we just may have a big problem here people. Let's all just face that fact. Same with Petty and speaking on him, he had his chance last year and did nothing with it. So I'm not that interested in seeing him. Listen, we all know the Jets had no chance of winning with any QB on this roster this year. The only reason I was even going to bother watching the Jets was the to see could this young core grow together and be competitive. Lead by Hackenburg, not McCown or Petty!!! So I feel your pain but facts are facts, Hack may just be a bust.
Note: Deshone Kizer was just announced the starter for the Browns. A second round pick, like Hack but Kizer won his job. Adding insult to injury, this is Hackenburg's second year and Kizer is a rookie. See what I mean.
