Who is Barksdale? I am all for Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Josh Rosen and a few others but I have never heard of Barksdale.
Darnold is who I am talking about. My fault, don't know why Barksdale is stuck in my head. I'm not a college football person so the names aren't there for me.

That makes two of us and I won't be buying the NFL ticket either. First time in about 10 since I've done so.
ready for this one?? just read the excerpts from bowles 8/28 presser at another forum.. he's still undecided on who will be the backup QB..

this ****ing guy is literally trolling the organization, media & fan base at this point..

bowles, the dickhead has officially become my least favorite jet player/coach ever.....

MaineJet - you are entitled to your opinion. I respectfully disagree. And I am not "out of my mind with this nonsense." It's my opinion. You remind me of a poster we had years ago on this Board who was insulting and disrespectful to everyone that disagreed with him. If that's your deal, fine. But I for one will not engage or enable your third grade behavior.

This team is rebuilding so I am not sure what anyone here expected this year. The Giants are a better team. They are legitimate SB contenders and will compete with the Cowboys for the Division Title. The Jets are not even close to that level at this point. Now we can debate whether getting rid of Decker was a good idea - I was against that move. But I do subscribe to the point of view that this is all Mac's fault or Bowles. You have to go back to the drafts before they arrived to see where this roster feel apart. Go back to the Rex drafts and the Idzik drafts. Let's take a look shall we:

Out of the Idzik 12, one player emerged, Enumwa, who is out of the year. McDougle is a backup. The set of 7 picks, Richardson and Winters are starters. The next 8 picks, Demorrio Davis is reacquired and starts. The next 6 picks, Wilkerson and Powell are good players. So two there. Then 2010, four picks and all were back picks. Out of 37 picks, we have 3 starters, one injured starter and one backup. That is hitting on 10% of your picks. That's atrocious drafting and no roster can have success when the prior 7 drafts look like that.

So this is not on Mac or Bowles. They were given a bad hand and they are trying to rebuild the franchise. Now, let's look at what Mac has done so far in his first few drafts:
1Jamal Adams6S 000 LSU
2Marcus Maye39S 000 Florida
3ArDarius Stewart79WR 000 Alabama
4Chad Hansen141WR 000 California

1Leonard Williams6DE20160111932 10.0USC
2Devin Smith37WR2016000114 101351 Ohio St.
3Lorenzo Mauldin82OLB2016000426 16.5Louisville
4Bryce Petty103QB20160002675133809375190 Baylor
5Jarvis Harrison152G 000 Texas A&M
7Deon Simon223NT2016000216 1.5NW State (LA)
This draft we have 2 starters as rookies in Adams and Maye. And another potential starter in Donahue. Stewart and Hansen both look like they can play, but will need some time before they crack the lineup. Leggett same thing. Next draft, Darron Lee, Jordan Jenkins are starters (and yes I believe they will improve dramatically this year), with Burris likely to start. Shell may or may not start, up in the air. Peake may be a starter as well. In his first draft Williams was a no-brainer and a Pro Bowler. Smith injured. Mauldin has underperformed. Petty has played well as a backup. Deon Simon looks like a steal in round 7 and is a spot starter in the middle.

So with 22 picks in three years, Mac has drafted 6 starters on defense. And three potential starters down the line on offense in Stewart, Hansen, Leggett and Peake. Assuming at least two them become starters this year, you have 8 starters out of 22 picks. A 36% rate of converting draft picks into starters, which is very solid. I don't know what the league average is, but I would expect it is somewhere in that range.

My point is, you have to look at this team though the lens of what happened over the prior regimes. Personally, I think the rebuild should have started 3 years ago, but I enjoyed the 2015 season and that team was fun to watch. They came close with Fitzpatrick at QB having a career year. Last year was a wasted season. This year needs to be about developing young players and building for the future, so that next year, this team can take another step with another draft and $80M in cap room. They are three years away, but I think this team is on the right track.

Thank you... couldn't agree more and I ahve made the same argument on another site about a month ago. Good post.

I want to see Petty soon & find out what Jets have in him. He looks to be a solid QB for Jets. Hackenburg just needs 2-3 more years before he cant start. Jets shouldnt have drafted Hack in 2nd putting pressure on him. Better if Jets drafted him 5th or 6th where he would have went no sooner than 4th. Next year Jets gets a chance to get the right QB in Draft and show the World that they can finally draft the right QB after bad/wrong QB Draft picks since 1965 Joe Namath being drafted as QB. So sharpen up those dart Mikey Mac and put the 3 QB's names on the dart board! Odds are 1 of 3 Jets get a Franchise QB unless they Draft like 1983 passing on Marino taking unknown Kenny O. who was good but not great.

Peake will not start this season I don't believe? he'll get passed over by Stewart or Hansen. Peake has so little involvement in the offense, it's like whenever they throw the ball to him, you say Oh yeah, I remember that guy?

Darron Lee to this day still cannot cover anyone? It still hasn't changed through the preseason and Jordan Jenkins is a non factor. And HACK?! He's a joke like I've never seen he's so bad.

Actually, objectively speaking, the best pick in 2016 was Charone Peake. He was most certainly underutilized but a good player whenever he got his number called. Robbie Anderson is pretty good but an UDFA.

It is the right move. Hackenberg did not look good this preseason whether playing against starters or backups. Petty at least scored.

if the decision was based on merit, (which is not a bowles go to move) petty has earned the right to be at least the backup..
