I guess its better than showing your ass in the game that determines your playoff fate. At least he got to show his ass in a playoff game.

I'm so tired of these retreads. You're not winning a championship with these guys, you're not even working towards winning a championship, so whats the point?

I like my plan because it at least starts the process of building towards the ultimate goal, which starts with finding a young franchise QB to build around. I'd rather start that process and go 7-9, then continue putting it off and go 9-7.

DAMN, WHY-WHY-WHY? Hoyer is garbage! Worse then Fitz was when he was with his prior five or six teams. I tired of this retread QB bullshit from this freaking team. Please Jets don't go with Hoyer, I'd rather they resign Fitz and I don't even want him back. Let's see if Petty can challenge Fitz (resigning him at your price) for the starting job and if he can't, play Fitz and lets just be done with it already. DAMN!!!

I thought everyone loved TB and Mac's decisions
Fitz last year , won 10 games but lost 2 of the most important and I'm not happy bout that and I'm sure they're not either
If they are truly interested in Hoyer I'm all for it
Franchise Qb ain't here yet.
I still think it's all BS to get Fitz back anyway.....
We shall see in the next few weeks

I couldnt agree more. I feel Fitz and the Jets have a deal in place and the reporters are just making up crap as the days go on without them really not knowing whats going on.

One thing for sure, Mac is the ultimate anti-Tannenbaum, he will never show his hand. Hence why the reporters start placing false rumors out there. Even Mo had to dispell the BS report of him "Loving to play for SF" last week.

Fitz is coming back for 2 years, that doesn't mean the admin is turning their heads at the qb position, they just aren't giving the keys to a rookie. They built this offense to Fitz.

Once mo is traded Fitz will be announced. It's impossible to trade mo on draft day because he needs to negotiate with the other team. Mac now knows what the 1st pick is worth, and can trade into the top 10 to get Treadwell and keep the 20 pick.

I know Hoyer's not a big name, but he might be the best option right now. This Fitzpatrick situation is a toss up. Who knows where that's going? The fact that the Jets pursued Hoyer last year before he chose Houston says something. Despite completely melting down against the Chiefs in the playoffs, he did have a pretty decent regular season. The parallels to Fitz can be drawn when you consider Fitz had a similar result to his season ending performance.

There's no perfect situation. Maccagnan can only do so much right now. Paying Fitz 15 million per is a bad move. Some feel trading the farm for a chance at the top QB's is a bad move. So what's he supposed to do? Snap his fingers and magically make a great QB appear?

There's Brian Hoyer and who else right now? A bunch of third stringers hoping to grab a final roster spot somewhere. Unless Fitz decides to drastically lower his asking price, he's not an option.

Texans released Hoyer after signing Brock Osweiler, Brandon Weeden

Four to five teams reportedly are interested in Hoyer

Approximately 48 hours after being released by the Houston Texans, quarterback Brian Hoyer is set to meet with the Jets.

Hoyer, 30, will meet at the team’s Florham Park, N.J., facility later on Tuesday, according to multiple sources.

Hoyer’s expected meeting with the Jets comes just days after the Texans parted ways with him after failing to pull off a trade. The Texans signed former Broncos backup quarterback Brock Osweiler to a four-year, $72 million deal last month to be their starter and also signed backup quarterback Brandon Weeden to a two-year, $4 million deal.

The Jets, meanwhile, are in the midst of a stalemate with their former starter, Ryan Fitzpatrick. NFL.com reported Monday morning that “barring a significant breakthrough,” the Jets are not expected to reach a deal with Fitzpatrick before the draft, which begins April 28.

Though it’s unclear who will be their starter in 2016, the Jets are eager to add a quarterback via the draft or free agency.

Last offseason, the Jets expressed interest in both Hoyer, then with the Browns, and Fitzpatrick, then the Texans’ backup-turned starter who was rehabbing from a broken leg. Houston ultimately signed Hoyer to a two-year deal in March 2015 and agreed to trade Fitzpatrick to the Jets.

Hoyer, who was benched during Houston’s season-opener, eventually won back his starting job from Ryan Mallett. Hoyer, who suffered a pair of concussions in 2015, threw for 2,606 yards, 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions with a 60.7 completion percentage and a 90.1 passer rating last season.

But Hoyer had one of his worst performances in the most critical game of the Texans’ season. He threw for only 136 yards and four interceptions in the Texans’ 30-0 wild-card playoff loss to the Chiefs.

Still, the Jets will have some competition for Hoyer. According to ESPN, as many as five teams are interested in Hoyer.

put everything money relate aside, you have to want the QB who has a year in the system under a familiar OC. Hoyer would be learning a new system/team with a tough schedule. I see no upside to bringing him in. Don't get me wrong, Fitz is no savior, but the chances for team success in 2016 are highest with him amongst the available options.

the big issue as I see it is not the money for 2016, it's the money/plan for 2017. I don't see a scenario outside a trade that will bring a ready made QB to the team before 2018 - meaning even drafting another QB next week won't properly address best chances to win on the field in 2016/2017. 3900 yards and 30 TDs is something to build on. Jets were a healthy Bilal Powell away from postseason last season and they've upgraded with Forte.

I've felt all along the magic number would be $12m. We'll see how it plays out.
