We all know that the biggest thing we need is a QB but discuss any player here.
Cody Kessler is a QB that has really caught my eye recently. He has great touch and accuracy while playing in Sarkisian's pro-style offense and seems to have pretty good poise in the pocket too. I haven't heard anyone mention him and was just wondering what you guys thought. He's only a JR so obviously there's a chance he won't even declare.
Not really sure how much I like a USC qb...I love Sanchez but he didn't pan out, leinart, booty, cassell, barkley....they haven't been good since Palmer
Those guys you mentioned are the very reason why you shouldn't rule out a USC QB. How many other schools have produced 6 NFL QB's since 2002. Obviously some on that list are better than others but the fact is USC runs a pro-style offense and 4 of those 6 guys were starting NFL QB's at some point in their career.
The knock I've heard on him is that he lacks elite physical traits. Tom Brady & Joe Montana anyone? How did those elite physical traits help out Jamarcus Russell & Vince Young?
The bottom line is that none of us have any idea which QB will succeed in the NFL. There are so many factors that make a QB successful that we as fans will never be able to truly evaluate. Study habits, smarts, "intangibles", how that QB handles the pressure, or losing, or the negativity from fans and media, etc.
At this point all we can hope for is that the Jets create the best possible environment (system, coaching, supporting cast) for a QB to succeed here.
I understand QB is a major need, however their are a few players to keep an eye. For example, Amari Cooper from Alabama is a dynamic game changer at wide receiver the Jets could use to help improve their offense. Jets don't have their #1 wide receiver and depending what they do with Percy Harvin I feel Cooper would be a great option for the Jets. A very versatile player that can line up inside and outside the slot who can be a deadly weapon for the Jets for years to come. Another player I like Randy Gregory from Nebraska who is talented, has great speed, and can get to the quarterback Jets could use a great pass rusher and Gregory would be a great option for the Jets defense. Finally, route I can see the Jets going is drafting an offensive lineman. I like La'el Collins from LSU, a very good blocker and powerful block who can help the Jets aging offensive line.
I would go QBs/Cooper/O-Lineman in that order
Their no sure thing in the draft. Their talent everywhere, it's a matter of finding it. Just because you have a high draft pick does not mean that the player will be great. I understand QB is a need, and without a doubt the Jets will draft one high. For example, look at Houston this year, they drafted Clowney with their first pick in the draft and he's not even currently playing. Busts are everywhere and that does not exclude a top 5 pick. What the Jets can do since the Jets have a lot of holes and this is by far not a popular decision by most fans, but if their is nobody available worth drafting the Jets could potentially trade down and get more draft picks to full more holes on their roster.
it is going to really depend on the new gm and coaching staff in the end.
Agreed that and what kind of system they decide to run.
I agree with a lot of the posts that the Jets have lots of needs including QB and that the draft is uncertain. I am hopeful that the front office, coaching, and scouting staff gets rebuilt and renewed.
