The Good, The Bad And The What The Heck

I've always had mixed feelings about training camp reports. Whenever a good play is called out I wonder who was in the other side of that play. Clearly most of the good and some great plays have been made by the defense. But not all! Here are some of my takeaways:

The Good

Jamal Adams - clearly a great player and a great leader. Even makes his presence known when he's on the sidelines.

Marcus Maye - we're hearing more and more about this guy and it's really good. These two guys will make a significant diffference in year one.

Morris Claiborne - just stay on the damn field!

Justin Burris - good reports so far. He really, really needs to move ahead of Skrine. Skrine on the outside will hold back the entire defense. He's that bad. Opposing QB's will find him.

Sefarian-Jenkins - may be more than just a feel good story about a guy who has gotten his life together. He may fill a huge gap in the passing game without Q and could lead the team in receptions.

Dylan Donohue - who knows if this will keep up when the real hitting starts but you gotta like this guys energy.

The Bad

Darren Lee - calling Darren Lee, calling Darren Lee! Haven't heard much about this guy making plays. Just a few fluff pieces about the game slowing down for him.

Adarius Stewart - who?

Chad Hansen - who?

The offensive line - 'nuff said.

A friend of mine was at the green & white game. He said Chad Hansen was everywhere. A very busy kid that doesn't stop. Had a few nice blocks and caught a pass or two. He said that kid is a player.

He made a lot of excuses for the OL. But I don't know how much longer anyone will be able to make excuses for them? They've been awful besides the Guards.

He didn't mention Lee specifically, but he said the DL plays so fast and is so talented that the linebackers were getting tackles on the RB's in the backfield.

Glad to hear about Hansen. He and Stewart need to step up. I don't think Marshall will make the team.

The OL is terrible and will be the albatross of the offense. Expect a lot throws like last night. And the same results.

The defense has the potential to be very good. As I've been saying the linebackers weaknesses can be hidden behind the Dline and in front of Adams and Maye. IF Claiborne stays healthy and Burris is decent it they could be really, really good.
