Lets hope Hackenberg does not end up like the Hindenburg & both end up burning in NJ.
"oh the humanity Hackenberg"
"oh the humanity Hackenberg"
excelling, not game managing in a pro style offense as an 18 year old kid is obviously very impressive.. i believe it's possible hackenberg can be a plug & play rookie.. but the only reason we were in position to draft the kid is because he played in an ass backwards program his last two seasons..i can't see the jets exacerbate the situation even further by playing him before he's ready..I'm getting the same vibe.
I'd be fine with him sitting as long as he needs to, but even the POSSIBILITY of him taking the bull by the horns -- July can't get here fast enough . . .
Connor Cook. The same guy that fell in the draft because most of the people on his team and coaching staff couldn't stand him. A QB who wasn't even a Captain, for godsakes!
I'll go with Macc's assessment of Hackenberg. Macc is the first GM with significant scouting experience we've had in a while. He did his homework on him. I trust it. The Jets need to show some stones once in a while, and take a chance on a QB with big upside. It may or may not work out, but I like the guts to at least try.
On a side note, isn't it typical that Costello, Cimini, and a few others are already throwing out the Christian Hackenberg ultimatum: Macc's entire reputation and credibility are tied up in this ONE pick. So if Darron Lee, Jordan Jenkins, and say Burris or Peake become big contributors for this team, it doesn't matter because Hackenberg didn't work out.
These guys actually get paid decent money to give horrible opinions.

but if hackenberg is ready..... oh baby!!
Got to give big mac credit he is his own man....I think
you might be right.. I hope both kids light it up in this upcoming "must watch" preseason..Hackenberg is way more ready than Petty was coming out and probably way more ready to play than Petty is now.

Bottom line here is this. I wanted a QB so the competition for the starting spot is high. I am no professional scout but I had this years QBs ranked like this
1. Wentz
2. Hackenberg
3. Goff
4. Cook
5. JOnes
6. Lynch
MAc had his rankings and I have to assume he had Hackenberg higher than Lynch
For weeks you have been saying we need to pick a QB, we did. Maybe not the guy you liked best but again, I'm assuming, you aren't a professional NFL scout. So I think we all have to trust Macc and his scouting staff on Hackenberg.... Remember when people didn't like Russel Wilson and others doubted Blake Bortles... So bottom line is we wanted a QB we got one....
103 Sacks, probably close to 200+ hits, hard hits, and the kid just kept getting back up and competing.any prospect that had those two horrid years in an offense with no offensive line talent and coach's game plan that didn't help the lack of talent should pack up and run for the hills but CH didn't do that he got up and lined up his offense and tried to execute again and again, why? the reason why this kid showed his toughness and his willingness to compete, right here is why we should hope he can shed the last two seasons and continue his growth...
Draft a QB every year high, and develop them. This kid's got talent. Between Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg, I feel like we're gonna get one right here. Might not be this season, but it's on the horizon. Maybe I'm gullible, but I really feel good about the Jets finally developing a quality QB for the first time in a long time.
freshman year: Hackenberg was the perfect prospect, then
sophomore year: new coach, no talent on the offensive line
junior year: same coach, still no talent on the offensive line
this kid showed us in his first year that he can take snaps under center or in shotgun... he showed ability to scan defenses looking for his open target... he showed off his dime dropping accuracy not only short and intermediate passing routes but deep down the field pin point accuracy... his awareness was also on display showing instinctive ability when to tuck n run when the pressure collapsed the pocket... he also is aware enough to slide instead of taking unnecessary hits... this is the kid Maccagnan drafted with the 51st overall pick...

yes, I hope Petty also gets out of his own way and shows his true potential then we will have finally one signal caller that can be the face of the franchise while having that trade chip that we never had before...
at the end of the day whomever wants it that bad will take it, until then lets enjoy the ride because it looks to be a bumpy one...
I agree but I did not say just a pick, trade FA or whatever he did. the only problem I have with the pick is the Stevie Wonder problem. I hope he can hit his Rec's & not the fans in the stands
hackenberg's mo coming out of high school and his freshman year were that he makes strong throws and trusts his receivers to make the catch. He had allen robinson his freshman year, basically ran the pats offense. I would say that most penn state fans/students/alumni were shocked that a guy who went 1-11 the year before at vanderbilt was the choice. He has two terrible recruiting years, dumbed down an offense (hackenberg is an intelligent qb) hackenberg was the guy i wanted out of this draft. If fitz signs, he sits the bench, yes. If fitz doesnt, i would not be suprised this kid starting the opener against the bengals. People who keep ripping him havent watched his past two years. This kid is big and tough, and kept picking himself up. His ability to throw the ball knowing he is about to get smcked in the mouth is something we haven't had here in 25 years.
I am not as concerned with his accuracy as much as others. I have watched a lot Penn St games and it is a concern just not a major one here is why:
1. His OL was absolutely awful. A lot of throws were to avoid the sack, forced way earlier than the timing of the play.
2. Lots of dropped passes due to the terrible talent around him... Allen robinson was the only Wr this guy ever had.
3. The offensive system at Penn St is really terrible... Even a superior OL and WR group wouldn't helped that much.
My main concern is the Kids confidence..... Penn St destroyed that and will he play scared in the Poker ALA Sam Bradford.
