Lets cool it we have a chance with this guy & it may make or break big mac with the Jets, get some peanuts & beer sit back & lets enjoy the ride.

But as of today it is in Geno we trust.

Some have suggested that Hackenberg holds the ball too long, resulting in some of the sacks.

That's a fair criticism, whether true or not.
Huh?

No, its a fair criticism if its true and an unfair criticism if it isn't.

That said, they had two converted DT's at the OG's and a LT who couldn't block anyone, they might as well have had a tackling dummy at LT, it was that bad. You watch the tape of his games and often times he couldn't even finish his drop back, much less set his feet, before he was getting blasted. In retrospect he made a colossal mistake by choosing Penn State after their scholarships were pulled, and even Bill O'Brien who recruited him got the hell out of Dodge as soon as he could escape, leaving the kid to suffer under the tutelage of that moron Franklin. The fact that this kid sucked it up, took the physical pounding, didn't leave and never complained, is a true testament to his character.

I'd like to see him get some reps in the pre-season with the 1st team offense , just to see what he can do. He seems to be a really intelligent kid who just needs some mechanical adjustments , mainly on his footwork.

IMO, if we don't re-sign fitzpatrick smith would go into OTAs as the starter in name only.. i can't see bowles/gailey not giving petty & hackenberg a real chance to win the job..

petty has had a chance to watch & learn from fitzpatrick & hackenberg ran a sophisticated pro style offense extremely well as an 18 year old..

Not 1 offensive Penn ST player was drafted except Hack.. Makes one believe that he wasn't exactly surrounded with a all star cast.. :global (7):

I know you guys are going to call me nuts.. but just check out Brady at Michigan and Hack at PSU.

Any one see any similarities at the same points in their respective collegiate careers?

One that stands out is the ability to stand in the pocket and deliver the throw spot on. Especially being as young as Brady was and how Hack is now.

So are you implying Geno's coaches made him change what came naturally to him? Put him in a different system than he already excelled in, made him change his footwork, etc? That would be news to me.

To my knowledge there is no precedent set for a player like this -- someone who showed great potential but was then stripped of the ability to maximize that potential. I assure you PFF didn't take that into account, because they can't -- they simply put data into a computer and see what spits out.

Most college players don't succeed in the NFL because a) their game "doesn't translate well to the NFL", b) they don't put in the necessary effort to succeed or c) they simply aren't good enough. It could be argued that Hackenberg passes all three tests, just not over the duration of his college career. Only time will tell if those arguments hold water . . .

I'm saying that Hackenberg played poorly and so did Geno. Nobody said Geno had a much worse offense , coaching and team than last year. Geno got the blame. Hackenberg plays poorly and it's everybody else's fault.

We also have to look at QBs who can play competently when they have nothing around them, like Rodgers last year. No line, no receivers, and no excuses.

Hey , like I said, I hope I'm the biggest dummy on the board. I pray that you're right and I'm dead wrong.

A baseball scouting and evaluation principal is somewhat relevant

http://danoshinsky.com/2014/10/20/once-you-display-a-skill-you-own-it/

once you show a skill you own it

now, as a sport that is much more individual it is easier to isolate baseball skills, but the optimistic view of Hack takes that concept and looks at what he did as a true ffreshman with some talent around him and a good coach

18 years old - grasping a pro style offense - making reads and line calls - did well

then came Franklin

I'm going to give this pick a chance, but this is going to take some time. Even when he had time, this was an ugly performance

well he got sacked 10 times in that game. and who knows how many other times he got hit. so hardly the best game to look at for when he "had time" as he was probably shell-shocked. not sure how many QBs would look good in a game they were sacked 10 times.

I am not high on Hack either, but I hope he turns out to be our best pick since Joe Namath. We are going to have to make a major contribution to building an OL eventually to protect him .

If he gets shell shocked whenever he gets hit a bunch of times, that's not good. Again, just look at the throws when he has time. He misses easy throws and looks lost out there

you ever see tom brady play in games where he gets hit a ton? he looks a lot worse than the tom brady who plays when he doesn't get hit much. same for basically every QB to ever play the game.

from the afc championship game:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...s-than-any-quarterback-has-been-hit-all-year/

Broncos hit Brady more times than any quarterback has been hit all year

Eight years ago, the Giants showed the world how to beat the Patriots: Get to Tom Brady, early, often, repeatedly.

It’s easier said than done, since it requires defensive players with the ability to get to Brady before he can get rid of the ball quickly. But the Broncos did it, and did it well, on Sunday, hitting Brady 20 times, via Ben Volin of the Boston Globe. That’s more than any quarterback was hit in any game for the 2015 season...

(Brady went 27/56 in the game with a 56.4 QB rating; for the year he had a 102.2 rating)

------------------

picking the temple game to show what he looks like when he's not under pressure is hardly a fair evaluation of him. he was getting killed in that game. you really think that QBs don't feel the impact of 10+ sacks, and who knows how many additional hits, in a game?

there's plenty to question on him. i'm not saying he's a sure thing. but the temple game is an extreme game where he was getting killed back there. getting hit over and over impacts a QB over the length of a game. it's silly to think otherwise.

Brutal game. I watched it live at the time. When he threw that pick 6 I was ready to tear his face off. lol

Yeah he got sacked 10 times, 6 of them were on him. When he had time throwing balls into the dirt, or into coverage.

That was the game I no longer was a part of the Hack Pack
