The next Jets OC needs to be an assistant head coach.

One of the biggest problems with Lafleur was that there was nobody to support him if he was having issues. Saleh is not the guy to support him since he's defensive minded. When Ullbrich was having issues, Saleh was there for him. If MLF was more experienced, it probably wouldn't have ended this badly. But his staff was underperforming bad personnel decisions were being made. And the starting QB floundered for a year and a half.

An OC who can work completely independent of Saleh would benefit the team a great deal because it would take something out of Saleh's hands that he wouldn't be able to handle in the first place.

Thoughts?

Yeah. I felt the same about Rex. He needed the same thing. But then you have 2 head coaches , kinda, and the next year, one gets plucked away

Only issue I see with this is; Saleh would be hiring and empowering his potential replacement

I don't think this would be a threat to Saleh....unless of course the defense goes south. But that wouldn't bother me. The Jets don't exist so that Saleh has a job.

Too many cooks spoil the pot.

Bring in an OC that was a former successful OC who was Hired and then fired as a HC. You know a guy who didn't make it as an HC but is a brilliant coordinator. Kinda like Todd Bowles. Great Defensive Coordinator but as an HC? Not so much. Experience is key here.
