In with the new! Mac is doing in year 3 what should have been done in years 1 and 2, however he was a victim of his own success by going 10-6 in '15. Now that we have a clearer picture of what we have (and don't have!) Mac is doing exactly what he should be doing. What exactly will be gained by keeping Eric Decker on the team in 2017? I'm interested in finding out what Enunwa, Stewart, Hansen, Anderson and Peake can do. It's time for one (or two, or three) of them to show what they're made of. We don't really have the same situation at our ILB slots. Still, I think it makes sense to move on from David Harris (great player and person as he was/is). I think Davis is an interim step at best but I don't see him doing much worse than Harris.
Per Overthecap.com, we are currently $17mm under the cap this season and $67mm under the cap for next season. That is likely to go up to over $80mm after Skrine, Forte and others are let go. The goal here is to see exactly what we have, where our holes are and fill them in with that cap space and high draft picks in 2018. The caveat is free agents MUST be 26 years old or younger. This plan, putting the youngsters out there to show what they have, is the first step in that process.
