The Plan - Out With The Old!

In with the new! Mac is doing in year 3 what should have been done in years 1 and 2, however he was a victim of his own success by going 10-6 in '15. Now that we have a clearer picture of what we have (and don't have!) Mac is doing exactly what he should be doing. What exactly will be gained by keeping Eric Decker on the team in 2017? I'm interested in finding out what Enunwa, Stewart, Hansen, Anderson and Peake can do. It's time for one (or two, or three) of them to show what they're made of. We don't really have the same situation at our ILB slots. Still, I think it makes sense to move on from David Harris (great player and person as he was/is). I think Davis is an interim step at best but I don't see him doing much worse than Harris.

Per Overthecap.com, we are currently $17mm under the cap this season and $67mm under the cap for next season. That is likely to go up to over $80mm after Skrine, Forte and others are let go. The goal here is to see exactly what we have, where our holes are and fill them in with that cap space and high draft picks in 2018. The caveat is free agents MUST be 26 years old or younger. This plan, putting the youngsters out there to show what they have, is the first step in that process.

I disagree. I mean what's the harm with keeping a good soldier (I am speaking about Decker. Harris not so much, he is very old) to show veteran leadership and to show just a little fight even if it doesn't amount to anything? Eric Decker was a great addition to this team and part of me feels really bad that the Jets are so willing to simply mail it in........

Decker would only take away catches from Enunwa, Anderson, Peake, Hansen and Stewart. $7.5mm is too much to pay someone to provide veteran leadership. Mac tried to restructure and Decker said no. It's time to discover if we have a #1 (and/or #2, #3) on this roster. If so, great. If not, we need to get one next offseason. Keeping Decker made little sense at this point.

No harm in keeping Decker, Forte as well but why??? This team will suck ass big time this year. Everyone knows that and so do they. So do you think they would even want to be apart of this rebuilding stuff? Probably not! Start totally fresh and new and let Hack play without the pressure of vets on his back to please them. Old man Harris is the same.

Those kind of players have probably been through this rebuilding crap years ago and don't have many years left in the tank. They want to win now and that is not going to happen with the Jets. This is probably best for everyone. Any player over 30 should to go elsewhere because this will be a slow and painful process to the winning track.

For hack to succeed he must have talent surrounding him. The Jets have some decent role recivers and a whole lot of nothing on the OL. That's not the way to build confidence in a young QB.

Gonna be a rough year. This team is gonna be hard to watch for a while. Hope we find some hidden gems on our roster!

Hard to argue with that. The only saving grace for this year is if we see the defense coming together. We're a #1 corner and decent linebacker away from being elite. POTENTIALLY. That could be fun to watch. If that is indeed what happens and we get a top 3 pick, and $80mm in cap space, there's going to be some buzz around this team in 2018.
