I think Mac will go all-in on Cousins and offers him $32mm for five years. While that's a lot of dough, within 2-3 years he will be no higher than the 10-12th highest paid QB in the league. I also think the deal will include some unspoken guarantees that Mac will significantly improve the OL by signing guys like Andrew Norwell and drafting Quinton Nelson, Billy Price and/or Frank Ragnow. Imagine the interior of the O-line with guys like Norwell/Nelson and Ragnow. Throw in a RB in the second round (e.g., Chubb, Penney, Rashaad Jones) and signing a WR like Richardson and this offense is pretty damn good.

The Denver Broncos and New York Jets are emerging as the serious contenders for Kirk Cousins once free agency begins. The Broncos have the ability to offer Cousins a lucrative contract, but will need to appeal to his desire to win to overcome the massive cap advantage the Jets will hold in these negotiations.

One way they can bring down the Broncos in these sweepstakes is to offer Cousins a fully guaranteed contract.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, league sources believe the Jets could offer Cousins a 4-6 year fully guaranteed contract to sway him to sign with them.

With Cousins rocketing toward the open market (efforts by his current team to conjure up a way to trade him notwithstanding), the question becomes whether the next contract he signs will be fully guaranteed, for the full duration of its four, five, or six years.

One team already is being pegged in league circles as having the willingness to do it: The Jets. If the Jets will do it, other suitors for Cousins may have no choice but to follow suit.

John Elway has a tendency to avoid big cap issues beyond 2-3 years, so he might balk at offering a deal like this to Cousins as the fully guaranteed aspect of the contract in years 4-6 could/would impact the cap in ways the Broncos may not like.

Give or take a few million. And for guaranteed money, yes. I really think Mac wants to avoid taking a QB at #6 (see list below). Signing Cousins would allow him to build the team with the juicy #6 pick and two picks in the second round. It's really his best option by far to continue to rebuild this team.

Let's look at the free agent or trade opportunity QB options.

Kirk Cousins...fourth round
Case Keenum...undrafted
Teddy Bridgewater...last pick of the first round
Nick Foles...third round
AJ McCarron---fifth round

Mac can still add a young QB in the draft after the first round.

Denver has five players eating up $68mm of cap space and three of them are at least 30 years old and the other two are 28. Elway doesn't have a lot of cap room to tie up given their relative lack of young talent without gutting the team. On the other hand, Mac is likely going to cut four or five of his top eight earners to add to his $70mm cap space (AFTER paying Cousins) to add a lot of additional YOUNG talent.

I'd be just fine with the Jets signing Kirk Cousins, which would open up a world of possibilities. With the #6 pick then, Mac could consider between taking the BPA who should still be a stud, or even trading down for an extra pick or picks. The Jets should be able to add at least four really good players in the first two rounds if they go that route, but they have got to nail this draft, which is a pretty deep one at positions of need. Look at what NO did in last year's draft to reinforce the impact that a great draft can have. Btw, the developmental QB I'd be very interested in seeing them pick further down if they sign a FA QB, is Lauletta, his Senior Bowl week performance has me quite intrigued.

Lot of talk about Cousins as a Jet. Cousin was on a awful Redskins team, bad O Line that offered little protection forcing Cousins to run around making plays. The other thing is the Skins took away any talent at WR, even with this done Cousins still put up great numbers passing. If Alex Smith played with the exact same Skins team as Cousin, he will have a awful year as QB of Redskins. So I do like Cousins as a short term contract of 3 years till our rookies come off their contracts. BUT I want Jets to also Draft a QB in first round so he can sit and learn behind Cousins til he is ready. My worries and lack of confidence of Jets Drafting a sure fire QB with the first pick isnt good. Reason is Jets have not Drafted a franchise QB since 1965 Namath! The last time I seen this kind of QB Draft was 1984 with Jets passing on Marino at 23pick I think, so imagine Jets at 6th missing the correct QB pick at that! I'm still sick thinking of Jets passing on Marino and dont want to see it happen again like Petty,Hackenburg awful picks at QB. So this is why I want Cousins and Drafting a QB in case Jets cant Draft the right QB again we still have something till getting QB Jets want.

Yeah. They're called the Packers.

That's a bigger scam than PSLs.
you can buy "a share" for $225 plus a $25 dollar handling fee. It has no value, doesn't entitle you to any say, any profit. It's essentially joining the teams fan club....

Agreed. But it's the closest the fans will ever get to owning a club.

That's the truth.
It may be a good thing too. Imagine how dysfunctional the Jets would truly be if the members of this forum actually owned the team. Too many opinions to ever agree on anything. Makes for a great forum , but not so much for team ownership.

Exactly right. In order to select a player we'd have to put names in a hat and pick one which probably wouldn't work out well for us. Still, it's a novel thought.

Not to worry. All companies that have stocks are "owned" by the shareholders. But it's the board of directors/CEO that run the place. But the shareholders do get an annual meeting.

And they can sell those shares, the shares appreciate over time, and they actually own the shares in the company. In the Packers situation, they have a yearly meet and greet, and you do get the added benefit of buying overpriced Packers merchandise.
the positive is, most of the money raised supports a charity.
