Here’s Ciminis take:

Ossai Could Be on the Shelf for a While

ESPN’s Rich Cimini said he “wouldn’t be surprised if Ossai lands on IR (designated for return).” If the Jets opted for that path, Ossai would be forced to miss at least the first four games of the 2026 season.

This injury news is a big bummer for the Jets’ defense. They have four key rotational pass rushers on defense with David Bailey, Will McDonald, Kingsley Enagbare, and Ossai.

Enagbare and Ossai’s superpower is stopping the run. While Bailey and McDonald’s best qualities are rushing the passer. It was the perfect balance. With Ossai on the shelf, that deals a key blow to the Jets’ rotation ahead of the 2026 season
That sucks.
Bailey must improve against the run.
He must improve on that side of his game.
Now more than ever!
I guess depth is a problem again.
Damn!

The good news is that unless something goes badly wrong the 'back up o line' is not a unit that will receive playing time.
Doesn't have to go horribly wrong, one injury and the offense is in trouble. We're ok at guard but not at center or tackle.

What's the status on Ossai? Read somerthing that Glenn claims it's a rupture and that's better than a tear? If it's ruptured, he's done.
He's week to week but if glen was correct that it's a complete rupture he's out for months. Don't get why he isn't on IR. Should have put Lynn on the 53 and had one more spot on the practice squad.

Mitchell and Okorafor are the same backup tackles as last year. None of the three interior guys from the preseason are on the 53 at the moment, all three positions are covered by Meredith. If you think Meredith is OK at guard then Tippmann can always switch to center to cover Myers. We need at least one more interior lineman and I wait to see who that is. Surely they had someone in mind when they waived Levao,

here’s what my friend Gemini says about Meredith:

Jordan Meredith is a solid, high-floor depth interior lineman—he isn't an elite starter, but he is considerably better than typical bottom-of-the-roster emergency call-ups.

Here is what you get with Meredith:

The Strengths

  • Guard Proficiency: Meredith saw significant action at guard with the Raiders. In snaps at guard, he flashed legitimate starter potential, showcasing elite efficiency grades in pass protection and holding his ground well against interior power.
  • Versatility: He has logged regular-season reps at both guard positions and center. That dual capability makes him ideal depth for a team like the Jets looking to avoid disaster if a starter goes down.
    Jets X-Factor

  • High Motor & Anchor: Undrafted out of Western Kentucky, he relies on great functional leverage, leverage technique, and toughness rather than pure size.

The Weaknesses

  • Struggles at Center: When forced to play primary snaps at center for the Raiders, his effectiveness dropped. His Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade hovered around 57.7, placing him 32nd out of 40 qualified centers. He lacks the ideal reach and length to easily neutralize physical nose tackles on a snap-by-snap basis.
    PFF

  • Limited Starter Ceiling at C: While he’s a fringe-starter/high-end backup at guard, at center he functions primarily as a backup/bridge player.
    Jets X-Factor

The Verdict

If Tippmann were moved to center and Meredith took over at right guard, the drop-off wouldn't be a catastrophic breakdown, but it would represent a clear downgrade. Meredith is a dependable plug-and-play reserve who keeps the floor raised, but relying on him as an everyday starter leaves you vulnerable against top-tier interior defensive lines.

He may be a better guard than Tippman.
In 2004 he was ranked 6th of all guards in the league. He does sucks at center though.
