Since the patriots game I just couldnt post....It has been too painful.
I agree with all the other posts on this forum about the state of the Jets. However, I think we have a bigger problem. Whether Sam has the stuff or not to be a franchise QB...can't really debate one way or the other. Although, the problem is he will effectively be damaged goods by the time this season is over.
2 years of lost development. To add to that he is learning to be scared and killed. Gase has done nothing to develop him and even worse he has put his QB in a situation where he is learning to second guess his instincts. He is seeing "ghosts" in the pass rush and now he is seeing them when they are not there. He has learned to not trust his line and expect to take bad hits. He has learned to run for his life. He has not learned how to be a good QB and by the end of the season it iwll be too late.
Yes, Mac did Gase and the Jets a huge diservice as did Idzik with regards to the oline and the receivers. However, Gase should of fired his oline coach several games ago. He should of known all along of the weaknesses and possibly changed the setup....He should of known bell succeeds in when the oline is trained in zone...but he did not instill that setup. He should of added a tight end to block today before it got to 8 sacks. He waited until sack 6 before he made the change.
Gase has failed. If we have any chance of salvaging Sam at this point he needs to be fired. Otherwise, if we wait until the season is done - we may have to consider drafting a new QB for a new coach. Sam is shell shocked and we are risking it becoming permanent.
If I was joe douglas I might consider trading Sam for a #1 this year. I would trade Bell as well - we could get another #1 for him. Robby/Leonard/Maye is a given. I would pay a team to take truimane - like a Osweiler type deal and get a pick out of it.
