The State of the Jets and Sam

Since the patriots game I just couldnt post....It has been too painful.

I agree with all the other posts on this forum about the state of the Jets. However, I think we have a bigger problem. Whether Sam has the stuff or not to be a franchise QB...can't really debate one way or the other. Although, the problem is he will effectively be damaged goods by the time this season is over.

2 years of lost development. To add to that he is learning to be scared and killed. Gase has done nothing to develop him and even worse he has put his QB in a situation where he is learning to second guess his instincts. He is seeing "ghosts" in the pass rush and now he is seeing them when they are not there. He has learned to not trust his line and expect to take bad hits. He has learned to run for his life. He has not learned how to be a good QB and by the end of the season it iwll be too late.

Yes, Mac did Gase and the Jets a huge diservice as did Idzik with regards to the oline and the receivers. However, Gase should of fired his oline coach several games ago. He should of known all along of the weaknesses and possibly changed the setup....He should of known bell succeeds in when the oline is trained in zone...but he did not instill that setup. He should of added a tight end to block today before it got to 8 sacks. He waited until sack 6 before he made the change.

Gase has failed. If we have any chance of salvaging Sam at this point he needs to be fired. Otherwise, if we wait until the season is done - we may have to consider drafting a new QB for a new coach. Sam is shell shocked and we are risking it becoming permanent.

If I was joe douglas I might consider trading Sam for a #1 this year. I would trade Bell as well - we could get another #1 for him. Robby/Leonard/Maye is a given. I would pay a team to take truimane - like a Osweiler type deal and get a pick out of it.

By the end of this season Darnold won't be able to fetch a 5th round pick. He is a game or two from being ruined.

I should point out again how Brady has never been blindsided in 20 yrars. That's why even the 2 or 3 times a year where he gets pressured, he still stands in there because he expects not to be hit

If Sam played behind the cheetahs line from day one, he would look a lot like Brady only with a better haircut

Darnold is too talented to endure this crap. He has all the makings of a franchise QB. Gase better figure out a way to right the ship so they don't ruin him. His confidence has to have taken a hit the past two weeks, but the kid can play. We've all seen it. He's not Sanchez or Geno. He's the real deal. No one could win with our o-line. Joe Montana would look awful too. Remember how Aikman started his career? Players can overcome this still be great. I think Darnold is one of those guys.

Just to give you an idea.
Mark Sanchez who had half the talent of Sam was hit 30 times in 16 games in 2009....Jets have allowed 34 hits in half the season already. Sam is dealing with a weaker WR core and a coach that has done nothing for him. If he is not ruined by the end of the season - which I think he may be, he could end up seriously injured and miss some of 2020.

Btw here is more telling stats 2019:

Dolphins/Jets
First Downs 98/92
3rd Down Conversions 30%/20%
Total Offensive Yds 1552/1467
Total Rush Yards 400/447

Dolphins are better than us in all cats other than rushing (and that is still close - and consider we have a #1 RB) and the fins are tanking lol.

We have a true #1 RB if we had him 3 years ago. He looks slower to me. I know there is no OL in front of him, but he doesn't always have the pop he once did and it would make since because he is older now and taking a year off hurts a RB not helps usually.

Its because in Pitt they ran a zone run oline - Gase didnt adapt to the player - well because he is terrible.
