I'm not saying he wouldn't have been better than all our QB's over last two decades. Since Cutler struggled most of his career he would have crashed and burned in NY. I'm saying he was not equipped mentally for NY and their media or for one of the worst franchises in the history of sports.
I should reiterate that I'm no advocating Cutler. But this forum looks at QBs from other teams as problems but never seems to focus on the problems with the QBs that actually play for us. Here's an example that goes in a different direction...the low completion percentage on short passes gets attributed to the receivers and not Wilson.

Yeah I'm definitely not one of those people. My issues with Wilson are well known here.

If given the chance, right now, to take either Zach Wilson or Jay Cuter as your starting QB for the Jets, who you taking?

Seems like a slam dunk to me.

Did you miss the part where I said, "...Cutler, as disappointing as he was..."? This is my 3rd time mentioning it.

You’ve made it clear that you’re dissatisfied with Wilson, and getting all nostalgic about what could’ve happened if we just had Jay Cutler.

I just asked a simple question. Which guy would you rather have? If the answer is Zach Wilson, then I don’t know why we’re digging up the past regarding crappy QB’s we’ve had. Zach Wilson is the most promising QB we’ve had in years. I’m not making excuses about some ugly short passes he missed. But it’s funny how his doubters make such a big deal about it. Anything short of perfection gets dissected by fans. Let the kid grow.

Well his first season sucked. There's no sugar coating it. In fact his first season was atrocious. It rarely happens that a QB drafted to be a franchise QB gets supplanted early in the first season by a practice squad guy with the head coach saying for Wilson to sit on the bench and learn from the practice squad guy. That actually happened. As far being dissatisfied with Wilson's first season, I don't know how anyone in their right mind can be content with it.

Do I think he will be better next season? Absolutely. Will he improve enough to be the franchise QB that this team is starving for? Well that remains to be seen.

If given the chance right now, I would take Wilson over Cutler...mainly because Cutler has been out of football for four seasons and is 40 years old. To make a fair comparison, you have to assume that Cutler has one season under his belt and we know nothing else about his career. After one season, Cutler was clearly better and showed more promise.

He sat because he sprained his PCL. What are you talking about? And if you don’t think that he was vastly improved after being out for his injury, you and I are watching different football teams.

Like you, I want to see a major jump from Wilson. Every single weapon was improved for him on offense except center. The good thing is if he crashes next season, we have a much better team and hopefully culture in place for the next guy.

Have you seen Josh Allen’s statistics in his rookie season? How’d that work out? And numerous other examples can be given to star QB’s who started their careers with weak supporting casts and took a couple of years to develop, along with competent GM’s who surround a young QB with protection and weapons. A comparison of last years roster with this years roster is night and day. Wilson has way more to work with.

My comparison with Cutler was meant to show that a young promising QB like him flamed out toward the middle/end of his career. We don’t know what Wilson’s gonna do, but the ceiling is higher than Cutler.

no member of the forum exclusively blamed the receivers for them.
Zach owned the worm burner throws...AND SHOULD.
After the Miami game, he said "i just need to rip them"... and he did. Ty, true to form, then dropped 3 in one half.

but there had to be some reason for a guy who completed 73% of his passes in his final year in college to not be able to complete simple hitches and screens; when he feasted on shorties at BYU.

a very plausible answer is a lack of trust in the people he threw to catch it. the drop rate at the pro level for TY (and even MC1) was huge.
that's not to mention Cory, or Moore's issues.

yes, i am a Zach Homer, because i saw a lack of a correlation between what he could do at BYU, and what he struggled with last year.
i just think trust had a major role in the struggles.

Saleh said that in a presser.

I'm neither a Zach homer or not a Zach homer. I am just waiting to see how this plays out like everyone else. Quite frankly, I don't even know why I'm in a debate about Wilson. Tinstar said that he wanted Cutler in 2006 and I said that he would've been our best QB since the days of Ken O'Brien and @BlindsideD'Brick has been riding my ass ever since. Pretty demented if you ask me.

statistically, i think you're right.

for QB's we had since Kenny, who were here for 4 or more seasons, that i felt gave us at least a "puncher's chance" to win, because they were in the line up, i'd have to go....

1.) Vinny
2.) Penny
3.) Sanchez... probably not popular, but i think many forgot just how many comebacks he orchestrated, and how many times Rex's D couldn't get a 3 and out "after" Sanchez got us the lead deep in the 4th.
4.) Cutler... if he wore Green and White.

no doubt, and one worth having, because to @innocenti and @TebowCan'tThrow 's point of view... #2 didn't look very sharp for long stretches at a time last year; even when he reeled himself in and played more conservatively.
he has to have the ball control displayed at the end of the year, but not control it so much we aren't scoring...lots to work on!

but to Zach's credit, he ended the year the way Mac and Mills began their respective seasons by not being the cause of losses.

Saleh actually set us all up for the growing pains when he said "it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better" before the season even started.

he knew the staff wasn't sugar coating anything for him.
he knew the staff was throwing the kitchen sink at him.
