There is no Revis Island anymore

The last few weeks has shown that Revis can no longer hang with the WRs that are quick. He still excels against corners who use their physicality to get open but I'm not sure if the league has many of those guys left anymore.

A few weeks ago Darren Woodson had the following to say:

"I just think his time as being the elite No. 1 cornerback is pretty much over," Woodson, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Cowboys and current ESPN analyst, said Wednesday on the "Mike & Mike" show.

"He's a 30-year-old corner now. Let's just call it what it is. Just watching him this past week against [Raiders rookie] Amari Cooper . . . That matchup, if they really wanted to go at Darrelle Revis the entire game, Amari Cooper would have had at least 150 yards. He would have had a huge game a

I agree with his assessment and last week against Sammy Watkins pretty much showed the same to me. I was at the game and Watkins was open every time Taylor threw the ball at him. His drops and bad throws by Taylor really skewed the numbers. I know people will say that Watkins only had 14 yards but trust me, it could have been much much worse.

I still think he is a top corner in this league, just not elite. So the question is, was he worth all the money Mac gave him this offseason? You have to believe that he will only decline.....

If there was anything revis ever struggled with it was quick wrs usually smaller ones. He has admitted it himself in the past.

I'm not worried. I think the team strategy might need to change a bit as he gets older. He is always on an island with no over the top help so with these quicker guys he tends to give up stuff in front of him.

Perhaps if they gave him some over the top help with these guys as he gets older he can play them tighter and take more chances.

Having Revis is still a lot better than not having him. I don't know if he's still as dominant as he was a few years ago, but what really matters is that he's over there as a top 5 CB in this game.

He is still a TOp 5 CB as BlindsideD'Brick said above... and to be exact pro football focus has him rated #3...

Robinson had only 50 yards receiving on him... the rest were on other members of the secondary in the Jacksonville game.

And I am not sure what you were watching when it comes to Watkins but Revis did what Revis does against Wr's played perfect technique for whatever route the WR is gonna Run... Watkins was open on the first play of the game and pretty much that was it.... The threw at Watkins 7 times.... 3 catches for 14 yds... 1 drop on the wide open play and 3 PD by Revis.... I'd say Revis Island still exists.... just maybe every once and awhile someone might escape it... Happens to all the CBs

Revis is a once a generation CB.... If Revis came into the league today and played at the level he is playing at right now Everyone would be raving about having the best CB in the league..... Yet we are used to so much better that we are talking as if he is washed up and not good anymore... SMH!!

Revis is playing fine again this year.

is he the "revis" of 2009-2010 ? Of course not. He is now 30 and still playing at a very high level

When a player gets elevated to near-God status like Revis has, the cynics are always waiting in the weeds to knock him down a few notches. Nature of the business, unfortunately.

We really need Milliner to step up to his draft status going forward. Cro is completely done and Revis is really close. Revis is no longer a shutdown CB. He can't even slow guys down anymore.

He has had one bad game... Yesterday.... He is still a very good CB..... But he will have his lapses every once and awhile.. But with that said we need to game plan a little differently to give Revis a little help over the top.. Kinda what Seattle does with Sherman.

Agree, this comment is well in MHO ridiculous.

When the Jets are on a downturn losing streak, nobody is safe. Fans and media go after everyone. Like clockwork.

If you watch the replay of the 60 yard TD, Revis actually closed well on the play, and just barely missed a breakup on the play. He missed the ball by about an inch. Hardly the "torching" or "burning" that our ridiculous media made it out to be.

With that said, Revis got beat by Hopkins all day. No question about it. He had a bad day, guarding an underrated player. But I'm not doing to resort to extremes just yet on Darrelle Revis (no more Revis island, he's washed up, ect). I think Revis has earned the right to have a bad game once in a while. I'm not counting that guy out. Let's talk about Revis (and Bowles, for that matter) after the season.

I think Revis is a great player but he's no longer the player that teams feared going after. He does well against the wideouts that are physical. Dez, Calvin Johnson and many more. He always had trouble guarding the fast guys. Now he's struggling even more. It's normal. He's just not dominant any longer. He's still worth keeping around as a mentor to the young corners.

Yes, Jets fans on message boards are doom and gloom. When we win, we are SB contenders, when we lose, we are the worst and everyone should be fired and cut. There's no in between.

You might have something there...lol Honestly Revis Speed is what made him a great CB by being able to make up ground from behind & stay lock step at any WR's side. Revis doesnt look like he can keep up with any WR & Watkins made him look foolish at times. I'n not sure what Revis issue is & only Bowles would know if its conditioning or laziness & I hope it isnt that.

My expectations of Jets being 8-8 this season after Idziks completely stupid Drafts , was 3 years. Idzik got 1 Player in his time here & thats Richardson. I figured it will take Jets with a new HC Bowles & New GM Mike Maccagnan that long to Draft & rebuild to fix the years wasted by Idzik. Jets will be fine, but in no way did I expect Play Offs or Super Bowl this season or next. Woody got it right this time with Bowles & Mike Maccagnan, but you got to give them time.

Your second paragraph is the reason why I find it so hard to come to Jets message boards: it's hard for me to hold back on fans who are so black and white. You're exactly right: when they're winning, fans are talking deep playoff runs, and when they hit a downturn, the list of people that should be fired is excruciating. People that have been here 5 mins all of a sudden become pariahs. I can't tell you how many offensive coordinators have gotten this treatment from this fanbase.

I think it's human nature but to be honest, most fans have been right. Maybe we jump to conclusions early, but we've been right more than wrong.

As for the offensive coordinators, to be honest, we haven't had a great bunch.

Hackett
Schotty
Sporano
Marty

Gailey is ten times better than all of those people listed. I don't see the hate he gets. It's about time, our offense isn't boring or predictable. There are some things he does that leave you scratching your head but I think he's been good so far.

Revis never had speed..... His game was always predicated upon technique and physicality. But with that said he has lost a step which has caused his game to slip a little... Still a better CB than 90% of the league. And I have watched every game several times, I am glutton for punishment, other than the first play to Watkins in the Buffalo game, Watkins did nothing. He got what Revis gave him and it wasn't much.. So not sure where or how Watkins made him look foolish.. Hopkins on the other hand... he did a few times.
