How do you rank this young linebacker? Has he developed the way we all hoped for/expected?

Personally, I've always thought Davis 6'2"/239 would be better suited as a 4-3 OLB with his lack of size and good speed.

I think he has developed quite nicely... Rookie year he showed flashes of his ability... His 2nd year he became a starter and he was A little inconsistent, again he showed some flashes overall avg at best. LAst year was much more consistent. Good improvement. I like where he is and Bowles plays to players strengths and I expect to see Davis, Pryor and Coples much improved under Bowles... I loved Rex's Defensive mind but with that said he sometimes put guys in positions that were not optimal for their ability.

I think he's a great long term consistent force. Is he ray Lewis? No, who is? He keeps his head up his nose clean and does his job. If everybody was a pro bowler we couldn't afford to field a team.

3rd rd. coming into his own in hid 3rd year. Hopefully he takes the next step and we put a 2nd rd. tender on him and keep him in the fold for a few more years as Harris, Pace move on. Just need to keep drafting LB's, CB's and OL every year to keep the stream of inexpensive talent coming through the organization.

I say absolutely yes, but there's a larger challenge specifically THIS season:

The defense is sure to play much more 4-3 as they have a wealth of talented linemen. Davis will be called to play much more 4-3 linebacker. Can he be the speedy guy that can race from sideline to sideline? We shall see....

Cimini posted some stats in his blog the other day which revealed that Bowles used a 4-3 alignment last year about 5% of the time. Now, I don't know what that means for this year, but it doesn't sound like he lines up four d-linemen much.

If the team was going to make a major shift toward the 4-3, why give David Harris a ton of money to stay?

Because Harris will no longer be a 3 down ILB on 3rd downs he will be replaced with another safety or CB. That "strange" figure of only 5% 4-3 was before we drafted Williams. With Bowles look for a lot more 4-2-5 not 4-3.

Think he's a good one and will continue to get better! The fact he questioned the practice habits
of the team under Rex Ryan says a lot. You want to hear that coming from your linebacker. Think
he's going to improve under Todd Bowles.

Bowles is a 3-4 HYBRID system defensive coach.
In such a system, you'll see about 30% traditional 3-4 base, (3 DL & 1 up LB), 30% 5-2 base - (2 OLB up), 30% 3-4 offset - (3 DL & 2 OLBs lined up favoring one side or the other of the OL), & 10% traditional 4-3 look base.
BUT!
Out of those initial base sets, there will be a lot of complicated shifts setting up overloading of one side or the other of the OL and employing at least 1, if not 2, blitzers about 1/3 of the time in each look.
It ends up with an inordinate amount of blitz plays called from wildly varying base set looks.

There may be a small increase in the number of 4-3 looks now that Williams is a Jets DL, but I wouldn't look for any major shift to a base 4-3 defense.
If anything it'll show more 5-2 sets and 3-4 offset looks using a 4th fattie instead of the 2nd OLB.
For his rookie year, Williams will mostly be a rotation player, spotting Snacks on obvious passing plays.

I didn't think much of him going into his 2nd year but far exceeded my expectations. He played well in coverage and became a leader. Davis could become one of the top ILB in the league.
