Thoughts on game 1

There was some promise with how the defense played in the first half. Unfortunately, good play from one facet of the game in one half is not enough, but it is a glimmer.

I guess the other glimmer came from the ground game. Mitchell looked very good at RT. Fant at LT, not so much. And aside from the fumble, the Carter/Hall combo looks very promising.
Glad to hear your assessment of Mitchell was positive. He looks like a real nice find in the 4th round. Not necessarily pro-bowl material but a steady longtime starter for a bargain price.

So , we may be able to be in some games for a half

Depends on a lot. They need to put it together defensively for a whole game. There were glimmers. I liked the play of the top end guys in the secondary. Sauce, Reed, Whitehead all showed that they can play against legit offensive talent. Quinnen, Clemons, and JJ all had their moments up front. Kwon similarly had his moments.

I do think the offense will play better when the line gels a bit more. Honestly, I don't mind the fact that it is Flacco and not Wilson behind center as the line tries to become a unit. Granted, Fant was atrocious. He has been through a lot, back and forth from left to right and back to left. He needs some stability, but he also needs to put all that aside and...you know, what do they call it? Oh, yeah. Block.

I would love for Davis to be dealt, as I think his continued presence limits both Wilson and Mims. He doesn't help his case with his penchant for drops.

There was one outside zone to the right. Hall carried. I don't remember when it the game it was, but Mitchell's reach block was outstanding. He got outside and got leverage on a quicker defender, opening things up for Hall to make a nice gain.

He will have his growing pains. But I like his potential, especially with him being thrown right into the fire. If either tackle had an excuse going into this game, Mitchell's was more legitimate. Yes, Fant bounced from left to right and back again, but he should be able to adjust. He didn't. Mitchell, on the other hand, really stepped up.

- The team played hard and you can see the true potential in all our young players. I’d say from rookies to fifth year guys. Except for Bryce Hall
- Our oline sucks and truly needs help.
- Our defense did the best they could and with a little offense to help them, we may have actually won that game. This is where Zach Wilson comes in.
- Safety Joyner needs to be benched. Why is he playing?
- Sauce is truly the truth. Must point him out separately.
- G. Wilson should be starting or at least get 40-50 snaps a game. Starting or not!
- Breece Hall and M. Carter are the perfect combination of RBs. They will be fun to watch. Just have to get them the ball a lot more.
- Flacco is not Vinny T, like I’ve been saying all along and I can’t wait till Zach returns. I’d rather us lose with Zach than Flacco. ATLEAST we’ll see the true potential or none of Zach.

needs to get better at some point. Playing hard but losing gets you nowhere. Having a good defense but an offense that can’t score gets you nowhere

butterfly effects........one unit affects the other in both positive and negative ways......on Sunday the Offense (or lack thereof) hurt the Defense......when you don't convert a 3rd down until the 4th qtr........that tells the story in general. Defense got tired and BAL had more opps to take shots until they found a couple plays that worked......other than that the Defense showed well.

Something that has always been a 'thing' with Joe Flacco is he has always been a tick or two slower with pocket awareness. That has never changed. George Fant looked like a fraud on Sunday. He compromised everything. The worry should have been for Mitchell on the right but he looked ok in pass protection. Can't say the same for run blocking.

Jets made enough plays that got drives moving, BUT when you take the donut on 3rd down for 3/4 of the game..........what good results can you reasonably expect? BAL was a tough match for the Jets in two respects.....they are big upfront and their secondary was good. It sure looked to me that Flacco was going to 3rd-4th reads WAY too often.......and the OL was not affording him that much time.

One thing that shouldn't be missed.......Flacco took care of the ball.......the INT was on Cager. The failure on offense was squarely on pass protection and maybe the playcalling that didn't assist it. Where was a WR screen with the likes of Moore or Wilson? The Berrios sweep? Absent. The OC deserves some blame. I won't put this on the Defense.....but Joyner was a problem out there.

So, week 5 the line has gelled and is playing much better. Brown is ready to return. He needs to not return.
What if the line is a little better. Then does brown return and Fant gets moved again messing everything back up?

brady had similar line injuries. He got sacked a couple times. Ripped into his lineman on the way to the sideline, then went untouched for at least as much as I watched. Yes, he also has the best receivers, running back and defense, but that doesn’t make his backup lineman any better at blocking

maybe Brady can rip into our line and they will then learn to block.

we have added good players. When other teams do that, they become better. It’s about time we become better

For the first time in 12 years I think the Jets are better than the Cardinals.......But this statement means nothing lol Really won't know anything until Wilson gets back......Really won't know anything until Draft day lol

We have had many, many years where the defense is good and would be much better if the offense could do better than 3 and out a couple times a game. It never changes through new coaches, gm’s , players. wtf? It’s time for this to end. We brought in better lineman. They get hurt. Bad luck? Yes, but belichick always survived with next man up. We added receivers that can catch. We still can’t score. This is why we say same old jets. We should be better. Yesterday at least, we were not. We looked like Gase was still here

I don’t care if we’re better than the cardinals. We still stink and if we play like yesterday are headed for another top 5 pick

Can’t argue this at all

Last 2 things I forgot to mention:
- The coaching, especially on the offense is impossible to judge. They have the weapons to make it happen now but Flacco is a statue, the check down king and he just isn’t good at all. Plus the oline gives him no time to do much.
- Punter and kicker is an issue also.

I agree with you. Brown's return could screw up the whole thing. If Fant has adjusted well to a couple full weeks at LT, and Mitchell is showing signs of developing into a solid RT, I might be inclined not to toss Brown back into the mix right away.

Two big ”ifs” that I think we have to hope for. Then we have to hope that the coaching stage thinks like us

true but only if they let it..

i think fant bounces back into LT mode & i'm happy to hear you were impressed with the rookie RT..

i wish i could say i'm confident the powers that be won't screw this up if fant & michell are playing well by the time brown is healthy..

Agree 100%. Brown should remain a high priced backup if they are catching their stride.

I hope everyone knew I was just trying to be positive when comparing Flacco to Vinny T. I've seen Flacco for last few years and he is a statue with an arm. I agree we need to see Zach, but he is injury prone like Penny. The coaching staff sucks. Saleh's positivity has run its course just like mine has. He needs to start benching players. They need to play Strev until Zach comes back, but they don't have the balls to do it because if he plays well it will be like Tebowmania and Zach's ego can't handle that.

JD's 2022 draft looks legit, but his first draft is so abysmal. 3 years and his OL still sucks. Mitchell held his own. Zach will get broken behind this OL. Strev is the best option until they can gel if thats even possible. The RB's should be touching the ball a lot. No Jet QB should throw the ball 59 times. The defense looked good for a half and they will be able to keep the Jets in the game until the half, but will get tired once they know the offense has no QB.

JD sucks at picking kickers. Zeurlein failed at Dallas with accuracy. He could make 60 yarders, but everything else is a struggle.
