IDK, at first I was upset because I like Simms. However, I think Tony is more in tune with modern offenses which is why he is so knowledgeable. Remember, NFL offenses have radically changed in the last 15 years. I read an interview a while back where Steve Young says he knows what a QB is going to do by just watching his feet and nothing else in WC offense. Sims never ran those type of offenses.
I think he's just so quick with his reads because his knowledge is all so current, and he's still sharp with it. He's used to making those reads in seconds, and now he's got the benefit of looking from above. That aspect is really great, I have to say. He's noticeably better than anyone I've heard.Yes. He tells us stuff no other announcer has told us before. But sometimes, he talks too much. He should remember he is the analyst, not the play-by-play guy. But it IS funny when he calls the play correctly before the ball is snapped. He gets a star rating from me.
