Almost every fan out there that have endured total punishment from this organization are torn because they see the potential in Sam Darnold, and in our new General Manager Joe Douglas... But if you have listened to Head Coach Adam Gase from conference calls to press conferences throughout the weeks you pick up on some wording he uses... He mentions the team's overall rebuilding goal not just this year but next year is mentioned often...

A lot of people are hoping Trevor Lawrence is the new shiny toy, but what if he stays in school... What if he comes out and the Jets plan is to build around Sam? From all accounts to this point the likeliness that Adam Gase is back next year is escaping the fan base but those who actually listen to all the pressers either audio or video...

Even Joe Douglas mentioned the rebuilding process is not over night that Adam Gase is a part of the process... To this point, Joe Douglas has hit a homerun on most of his first NFL draft selections... We all can agree Becton is a grand slam, and now Mims is showcasing his potential and eagerness to grow... Bryce Hall's first start wasn't magical but he was better than most hoped... Ashtyn Davis has made the Jamal Adams trade seem like light years ago... LaMical Perine has been decent enough until this past week's game suffering a high ankle sprain... The acquisition of Ty Johnson off waivers looks it could be a solid one two punch with Perine moving forward...

Jury still out on Jabari Zuniga and Cameron Clark but the potential from the majority of the picks proves JD has a head on his shoulders and will continue to draft well for the team to take the next step in the development of the roster and future success... Next year's draft class is stocked with IOL, WR, TE, DL, LB all the building blocks of what we need to continue building this roster up from the ground level...

The acquisitions and contracts of some veteran players are in question but in the short term they are here to band aid the rebuilding process...

Next year, this upcoming draft will pay dividends on where this organization is heading... All the talk is Trevor Lawrence, will he won't he and if he does and we don't, wtf... But what if the plan is to build around Darnold and continue not only to build the OL, get a comparable Mims 2.0 and possibly bolster the skill positions... Regardless of who is coaching, the team is trying to win and that is what the players, coaches and fans should want...

Bite my head off, on common sense...

It would be remarkable if Gase survived 0-16. Would that mean that he needs 1-15 next year to show improvement? Becton needs to stay on the field for a few games before he is anointed as a 'grand slam'. The jury hasn't even been selected for Clark and Zuniga, though I did notice Zuniga get on the pitch for a few downs against the Chargers. I don't see how the Jets can do anything about the QB position other than play it by ear, we can't jump horses until we actually go 0-16, which is not assured, then we have to see if Lawrence comes out AND if he is still rated as the best prospect. If he is the best prospect, there will be overwhelming pressure to take him.

heres the thing for me. Darnold hasnt shown me anything to make me believe he will be great. at the least you can say that we don't know any more about him now than when we drafted him. the other bad thing is he is going to have to be signed and paid before we know also.

if Trevor is as great as they say, or even only equal to Darnold, we can get him on his rookie salary which saves lots of money for more players. if Trevor comes out and we have #1 we almost have to take him just for this reason. cause we still dont know what darnold is and it would be hard to pay him big bucks based on what we've seen

if Trevor doesnt come out, then we have to decide if taking a chance on Darnold is worth the cost. roll the dice

A counter-argument is that we don't have to pay Darnold Mahomes money if we go with him, there won't be franchises queueing up to outbid us for the 1-15 (0-16) franchise QB who is injured for a substantial part of the season. We COULD lock him up longterm for a (relatively) friendly contract.

decline Sam Darnold's 5th year team option but give him a counter two year extension after this season where it has incentive laden based contract and explain to him we believe in you and we want to see how you produce with the team we are building around you and you are under contract for next season, 4th year...

worse case scenario he can say no then the Jets can go draft Lawrence and replace him...

Gase doesn’t get fired by the draft, I swear I won’t be rooting for this team anymore. Now I know that doesn’t mean shit to the Jets but if tons of fans start protesting and stop watching and mainly stop buying tickets, seasons passes, and gear because Gase is still here, I bet the Johnson’s will care then!

What am I talking about, I pretty much don’t root for this anymore anyway. I don’t watch them play, haven’t been to a game in almost a decade and hardly keep up with what their doing until the season is over.

It makes little difference which of these two QBs, Sam or Trevor is the starter on this team rebuild, which we all knew, or should have known, would be a multi-year event, I for one still have faith in JD and his vision for the team. As pointed out, some of these off season signings were stop gap or exploratory. I get that. But ..........I also see Sam regressing instead of improving and I can't help being more than a little concerned about that. JD's philosophy is to mostly build from the draft and I support that. Trevor might just be heads and tails better than Sam but behind this "O" line I'm not so sure he would be the same guy. I feel that the odds are in our favor to have that #1 pick but I'm torn between taking Trevor or another Becton for the right side and a couple of guards and a center just as big and tough. With the right guys in front of him even an average QB can win games. We need a couple of unstoppable receivers to add to the receiver room and a young Frank Gore to team with Perine if he pans out. I have to admit also that I'm both surprised and terribly disappointed that this group has played so poorly this season. Herndon's lack of production has me baffled as well. I expected much better production from the whole unit. My point is that something is rotten in Denmark and the coaching staff doesn't have a clue what it is or how to fix it and that needs to change first or no matter who they add to the roster we are going to keep getting the same result over and over and over again.

This is why we shouldn't be suicidal if we don't get the #1 pick. We could either take Fields, who might be the better prospect in the modern NFL, or trade down for a bunch of picks. We could take Kyle Pitts to get some threat from the TE position and some guys to solidify the O line. A standout running back would help as well, look at what Henry does for the Titans and Perine doesn't look like that guy.

outside Becton, but not really none of our rookies had a traditional off season to get into game shape and usually we don't see rookies take that next step until the final quarter of the season... this year was completely screwed up with needing rather than developing bodies and players got thrown into the fray with a play caller head coach who is lost...

Perine has the tools don't get it wrong he just needs reps and he doesn't or won't get them with Gase who leans Gore all day long...

Good point. I'm not down on our rookies just yet. Like you say, they didn't really get the benefit of a normal season or preseason. Let's just hope that the next season is normal and JD works some draft magic to build us a true, not cobbled up, offensive line with guys that not only play well but play well together and stay healthy. And yes..................add a play calling coach that actually knows what he's doing.

I for one feel very good about JD's draft. Becton and Mims will be excellent players (Becton is already there IMHO). Davis will be very good as will Hall and Mann, while Clark and Perrine will be a solid starters. Clark is a reach opinion for me, but I like his pedigree and attitude. Who knows about QB Morgan but always worth picking up a developmental QB. Realistically, I don't think you can ask for a better draft. I'm obviously hoping for more of the same this year particularly with the added draft capital, but there are so many holes its going to take a while.

And that's a fact for us all to try to keep in mind. JD is going to need time. I expect he will have misses. Every GM has them and I'm banking on him to have more hits than misses.

I don't know how Gase is even in the equation
The Jets are not just a bad team trying to rebuild ,
they have gotten worse from last year,
Worse after each game,,And worse in a supposed rebuild. Rebuilding on what ? What part of this team are they rebuilding on ? They are not even halfway competitive as an NFL team.
Hey Joe D , don't sell me that shit that this is a process and we're heading in that direction because that is the oldest weakest line of bullshit used on a garbage team . Not buying .
As for Sam how much more shit play do you need to see from your franchise QB to realize it ain't happening?
Cut your loses , shitcan the entire system and start new.

I feel the same way about most of what you say. You are right, behind a great offensive line an average qb van become a hero, even if he was drafted in the 6th round, but he still has to be smart enough not to make stupid mistakes. is darnold smart enough? not sure. all that said, if Trevor is the next Peyton or Joe Montana then we have to draft him. then draft more o line and a receiver and maybe even spend some money on free agents because we finally have a real qb and then its worth it. plus good players will want to come here if Trevor is for real

pretty sure we have the #1 pick. the only way we lose it is if belichick is out of it in the last game and he lets us win... because he will do that
