where are these grades from?
Only one player was on the team last year.
OLB Bass has been playing well the last two games also.

Bass is probably our best linebacker right now

Kony Ealy was a really smart waiver claim, and we were very fortunate to be in a position to win that claim.

I think he went in the 2nd RD?, but I remember watching him at Missouri and thinking he was a first round pick.

For whatever reason he apparently had a bad relationship with Belichick, but this kid can ball.

Maybe Belichik asked him to cheat

I'm surprised Ealy grades out so high? I know he was a good addition, but I didn't think that good? Adams and Williams don't surprise me at all.

But looking at those grades for 3 defensive players gives a fan every reason to think they can fix their run defense problems?

to get a better understanding here is the break down vs the Jaguars:

[h=3]TOP 5 GRADES:[/h]
EDGE Kony Ealy, 85.4 overall grade

DI Leonard Williams, 84.4 overall grade

LB Julian Stanford, 77.3 overall grade

CB Morris Claiborne, 76.7 overall grade

TE Eric Tomlinson, 73.7 overall grade

[h=3]PERFORMANCES OF NOTE:[/h] [h=3]QB JOSH MCCOWN, 66.2 OVERALL GRADE[/h]
McCown had a few key mistakes that stopped him from having a solid day moving the offense. On the day he was charged with 3 fumbles overall, one on a backwards lateral pass thrown before his intended receiver was ready that was scooped up by Myles Jack for a touchdown. McCown threw an interception that was not his fault, as Bilal Powell slipped out of his break upon release. McCown’s work against the blitz was impressive, going 9-10 for 100 yards and a 108.43 passer rating. When pressure got to him however, his rating fell down to 56.3.

[h=3]HB ELIJAH MCGUIRE, 72.8 OVERALL GRADE[/h]
The rookie out of Louisiana-Lafayette brought a spark to the running and passing game going for 131 total yards on 12 touches and he broke three tackles total. McGuire broke an impressive 69-yard run up the middle for a touchdown and averaged 9.3 yards per carry on his 10 rushing attempts.

[h=3]DI MUHAMMAD WILKERSON, 36.4 OVERALL GRADE[/h]
Wilkerson has been toiling of late, and his effort was particularly questionable against the Jaguars. He appeared unwilling to battle double teams, regularly finding himself blown off the ball. As a pass-rusher he managed just the solitary hurry, taking his season total to 7 hurries, 0 hits and 0 sacks on the year.

[h=3]EDGE KONY EALY, 85.4 OVERALL GRADE[/h]
Ealy has a handful of dominant games on his resume, and he added another against the Jets. He was particularly effective at getting into passing lanes, batting down three passes, including deflecting one to himself for a momentum-changing interception. Ealy also added three hurries to an already impressive performance.

yes, lol this a percentage grade 0 - 100

I know that probably sounded like a dumb question, but what I really wanted to know is this a sliding scale against the other players in the league or individual grades irrespective of others?

Our run defense issues really are not the fault of our line....its our inside line backers daron and davis.

Well, they're definitely part of the problem.

However, if the DL were doing their job at their best, the linebackers wouldn't have to shed blocks. They could maintain gap integrity and shoot gaps for TFL. Demario Davis has played great as of late and has even cut right in front of Darron Lee to make plays. Darron Lee still looks as lost as the day he was drafted.

Quite frankly, that really surprises me? Everyone already knew he was miscast and undersized in a hybrid 3-4. But I always thought he was smart enough? It turns out he isn't and that's why you have DD cutting right in front of Sharron to make plays. He knows Sharron cannot identify what's happening right in front of him.

Anyway, the DL is the most talented part of this team. There's no reason why they can't defend the run as well as they did against the Dolphins every week. Besides Miami, the defense has yielded 190, 180, and 175 yards on the ground.

Run defense is a team function meaning the DL is just as vital to preventing the run as the linebackers and secondary.

I was all over the Jets for not drafting Dalvin Cook. Credit the Jets for doing their due diligence and not biting into the hype and actually going along with their plan. Marcus Maye is a stud.

Mac is building this team right.

Interestingly enough, I think Mac is building the defense in a way that works for how Bowles wants to scheme and game plan. The players he's drafted the past few years are all fits. And, so far this season, it's working. Yes, they've had some rough patches, but you can definitely see a lot of improvement from last year in several areas, particularly in the secondary.
