Ty Montgomery

I have been reading camp notes since the first day, and there’s been a lot of buzz surrounding Ty Montgomery. Gase has raved about him, even the team media guys are saying nothing but good things.

After watching him on Thursday against ATL, I see what it’s all about. This guy is going to be a major part of this offense. He’s a Swiss Army Knife. The guy can do everything. He’s going to be a great duo with LeVeon out of the backfield.

His performance doesn’t bode well for guys like McGuire and Cannon. Maybe even Bilal Powell.

He’s cemented himself at the #2 if not 1B, I think it’s Powell after him.
IF they keep 4, it’ll be Cannon, because of special teams.
McGuire is done, doesn’t bring anything to the table that the others don’t , he brings less without playing special teams.
He’ll be another Maccagnan special, looking for work

He is that good and his presence almost certainly means that either McGuire, most likely, or Powell will not make the 53 man roster. Powell outperformed McGuire Thursday that's why at this point Powell makes the roster. That could change next week but so far I think Powell has the edge. Montgomery was a solid signing.

At this point, it may come down to which release will provide the most cap space to sign a player that could help at another position.

The multiple different looks that Gase can give with a 2 back set of Bell and Ty has to be terrifying to DC’s around the league. Either of them can line up anywhere and cause mismatches all over the field.

Ty looks like he will do much more for us then he ever did for Green bay or Baltimore. He's only 26 and seems to have a lot left in the tank. He be the perfect running mate with Bell. Third string guy should be McGuire but it will probably be Powell.

McGuire maybe should be the 3rd guy only based on age. Otherwise he is just a JAG. His 3.3 ypg should be pretty easy to replace. If he has to be the starter this team is screwed.

Montgomery will spell Bye - Bye to McGuire and Powell. I believe Cannon will stick due to his special teams ability.

If it’s me I’m keeping Cannon. Kid is a nice gunner on specials. And if he can get better with ball security he has good KO potential. Maybe even develop into a ty Montgomery type player.

Powell provides nice depth at #3 and Cannon is a lock at #4 because of his STs work at gunner. He increases his worth by being primary kick returner. Weird how his problems fielding punts is not an issue with kickoffs. Different ball flight and proximity of defenders is the reason, but still...

With what Montgomery can do offensively ( lest we forget he came into the league as a WR ) I'm all for keeping both Cannon and Powell , and keeping one less receiver on the depth chart. Powell is still too good to cut loose , and Cannon too valuable on special teams IMHO.

Cannon’s speed is impressive. But his hands are not always reliable. I’ve counted at least 2-3 fumbles. Powell has always been reliable, but age may factor in at some point. McGuire has shown flashes of good runs. This is going to be a tough cut down. Bell and Montgomery are the only real locks right now.
