UFA Free Agent: Connections to Front Office & Staff

The Mod Squad
Jet Fanatics
Jets Global
Starting with GM Mike Maccagnan, Houston Texans:

RB Chris Polk
OG Brandon Brooks
OC Ben Jones
OT Chris Clark
DE Jared Crick

Above are all needed positions we currently have a need for... Chris Polk would be an ideal signing to tandem with hopeful return signing Bilal Powell and returning injured reserve RB Zac Stacy... Brian Winters did a nice job replacing Willie Colon who isn't likely to return but Winters is a liability in pass protection which could cause the Jets to look into free agency or the draft for a replacement... Breno Giacomini signed in the Idzik era has been a big disappointment after winning a Super Bowl Championship with the Seattle Seahawks... The Jets need to rethink this offensive line and its overall stability moving forward and a spot starter like Chris Clark who started the majority of last season for the Texans could be another low risk high reward short term deal this free agency... Depending on how the Jets new management feels about the depth behind center Nick Mangold they could approach and try to target Ben Jones who could likely be the heir apparent to Mangold when Nick decides to hang it up... Not sure if Ben Jones could slip into the guard role until Nick is ready to retire, but it is something to think about...

Next up Kacy Rodgers, Miami Dolphins:

DE Derrick Shelby
ILB Kelvin Shepard
DE/LB Olivier Vernon

RB Lamar Miller
WR Rishard Matthews

Both Lamar Miller and Rishard Matthews are not privy to connections with Kacy Rodgers but they are both possibilities to be targets for us as we have a need in both of those positions... Miller could be a nice compliment to whomever the Jets retain or re-sign this off season... Matthews has experience inside and could bring depth to a position that we were hindered all season with...

Moving on to others on the defensive side, not only do these three players have connections to Kacy Rodgers but they also have a connect with our now head coach Todd Bowles... Derrick Shelby could be a nice role player on our defensive line but his price tag might be more than we want to spend... On the other hand defensive end Olivier Vernon is a similar athlete to Calvin Pace where as he could translate to outside linebacker with his size and athleticism... Vernon could be a double edged sword signing not only weakening a division rival but his ability in production is intriguing by itself... Another position of need is middle linebacker and Kelvin Shepard does have the ability to cover in open space while has the ability to play sideline to sideline... Clearly a need at all three positions these three could gain attention from gang green...

Moving west Todd Bowles, Arizona Cardinals:

CB Jerraud Powers
FS Rashad Johnson
ILB Sean Weatherspoon

OG Ted Larsen
OT Bobby Massie
OT Bradley Sowell

It will be interesting on if any ex-Cardinals would want to rejoin Bowles here on the east coast... Both Jerraud Powers and Rashad Johnson could bolster our secondary and would be smart pickups with both of them looking to be on the outs because of a stacked secondary in Zona... Weatherspoon marked by injuries could be another short term, high risk free agent signings but when healthy he is a play maker in the middle of the field... The talent the Jets should look is on the offensive side mainly offensive line, all three have experience spot starting none are elite but maybe they can bolster what was another porous position(s) for the Jets last season...

Staying in division Chan Gailey, Buffalo Bills:

LT Cordy Glenn
OLB Nigel Bradham

Either one of these players from the Chan Gailey era in Buffalo could be a nice target... Glenn not the best blind side tackle but showed he can hold his own, depending on who we keep or try to negotiate with Glenn could be a target for us... Note Cordy Glenn has started 61 of 64 games for the Bills, and could be a valued signing... Bradham has had a solid career to this point, has starting capability and is a sound tackler...

Another possible connection Kevin Patullo, Tennesse Titans:

WR Nate Washington - Houston Texans last season but connection to Patullo at Tennesse

CB Brandon Harris last season with Titans but year before was a Texan

DT Al Woods
DT Samie Lee Hill
TE Dorin Dickerson
TE Craig Stevens
ILB Zach Brown
ILB Steven Johnson
CB Coty Sensabaugh

Like all the other free agents the only connection that Patullo could really have a link too would be with the tight end position... Dorin Dickerson is more like our current (H-back) Quincy Enunwa and could be the favored target if they decide to bring depth to the position... We know that Cumberland and K. Davis don't fit and should be released and if so both Stevens and Dickerson could be targeted...

On the defensive side the Jets could use a versatile linebacker like Zach Brown who when healthy has the speed, awareness and ability to either be an inside backer or outside edge rusher... With Darrin Walls a free agent and Antonio Cromartie likely a cap casualty a young target like Coty Sensabaugh could be a nice addition... Both Al Woods and Samie Lee Hill could be good depth moves...

Thoughts???

Anyone else you think can be targeted from connections to Front Office and coaching staff additions this past year...

Absolutely correct. The only way the prior connections matter is that the coach, MIGHT have some insight as to what kind of person the player is. Some head coaches, like Rex, tend to raid their old team.

Position coaches only have opinions

The tape tells the rest

Most accurate post in this board's history. Connections mean nothing if these people don't receive their proper worth
