Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets have expressed interest in Rams free agent DT Nick Fairley.

[TWEET]706976905669562372[/TWEET]

This comes after a report from earlier in the day that DT Damon Harrison is generating significant interest, which could price the Jets out of the market for him.

Fairley could end up being a contingency option for the Jets, and a more reasonable value when all is said and done.

Fairley, 27, wound up finding a limited free agent market last year, which led to him signing a one-year, $5 million contract with the Rams. He’s once again in position to be an unrestricted free agent, but will hopefully get more security that a one-year deal this time around.

In 2015, Fairley appeared in 15 games and recorded 29 tackles, a half sack, a fumble recovery and a pass defense for the Rams. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 23 interior defensive lineman out of 123 qualifying players.

Jets have expressed interest in Seahawks G J.R. Sweezy

Jets have expressed interest in Seahawks G J.R. Sweezy

The Jets could use some help on the offensive line. After acquiring one Seattle guard a year ago, they may be looking to dip into that pot again in 2016.

According to a report from NFL.com’s Rand Getlin, the Jets, along with nine other teams, have expressed interest in free agent J.R. Sweezy.
Sweezy, 26, was originally selected by the Seahawks in the seventh round in the 2012 NFL Draft. Since that point in time, the 6-5, 300-pounder has worked himself up the depth chart after starting on the roster bubble.

The funny thing about Sweezy is that the Seahawks drafted him out of NC State as a defensive end with every intention of switching him to the offensive line, a credit to something seen by the team’s OL coach, Tom Cable.

Despite being viewed as a project player, Sweezy managed to start three games as a rookie in 2012. Over the ensuing three years, Sweezy started every game but two for the Seahawks. He’s developed into quite a solid player, too, as executives view Sweezy as “highly athletic” and a “mauler.”

As things stand right now, the Jets are looking for help on their offensive line, and more than anything else, youth. According to a report from SB Nation, the Jets had the oldest offensive line in the NFL in 2015.

At 26, Sweezy brings that youth, but also talent to a position the Jets are presently looking to upgrade. At right guard, New York has just Brian Winters with any form of experience. Veteran Willie Colon is reportedly contemplating retirement.

With this being just the legal tampering period, only the parameters of a deal may be discussed, thus the “interest.” No contract can be signed before the new league year begins March 9th at 4 p.m.

It is not a bad contingency plan. I want to keep Snacks, but Fairley wouldn't be much of a downgrade. Plus, surrounded by the DEs he would have, he could thrive in this system.

one name besides Fairley in free agency to keep an eye on is 49ers Ian Williams...

but if we look towards thedraft NT Melvin Lewis, Kentucky: 6'3" 342 lbs.
currently rehabbing a fractured fibula but has some potential with the right team...

don't forget we have Deon Simon in house that the Jets are really high on, so if Snacks goes there are options: plan B,C & D...

Raiders, Jets, others show interest in Wendall Williams

Raiders, Jets, others show interest in Wendall Williams

Wendall Williams' brow-raising performance at an NFL Regional Combine in Minneapolis over the weekend has already begun paying some dividends for the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) draft sleeper. Following his laser-timed 4.32 40-yard dash, which was hand-timed at a blistering 4.19 seconds, the New York Jets and Oakland Raiders have tried to set up private workouts with Williams, a wide receiver.

And because he's in demand from other clubs, he might not even be able to do it.

"The Jets and the Raiders are trying to set something up (a workout) with me at the end of this month. I'm not sure what's going to happen with (my schedule)," Williams told College Football 24/7. "Everybody would like me to go to the Western Kentucky pro day (March 29), but I'm not sure what we'll do. My agent and I still have to speak on those matters."

Williams also posted a 45-inch vertical jump at the regional combine, which was held at the Minnesota Vikings' practice facility. Williams ran so fast and jumped so high Saturday that the four scouts in attendance -- from the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs and Carolina Panthers -- pulled him off the field to interview him.

Williams said he's also heard from the New York Giants, but it didn't take a great performance at a regional combine for him to be on their radar.

"They ask me about my story and how I came to be playing at my school. I got a call from the Giants and the Chiefs earlier (Monday)," Williams said. "The Giants said their GM (Jerry Reese) has known about me from a couple months back, and they were excited to get in touch with me. This is an overwhelming process for me that I'm just trying to take day by day."

Williams performed multiple roles for the Mid-South Conference school, and his averages per touch illustrate his explosiveness: 30.5 yards per catch (15 for 457), 29.1 yards per rush (7 for 204), 23.5 yards per punt return (6 for 141) and 32.4 per kickoff return (24 for 777).

We're still seven weeks away from the NFL draft, but Williams has triggered exactly what was necessary for him to have a chance at getting a draft-day phone call: a scouting buzz about his athleticism, and the upcoming workouts needed to maintain it.

The top targets in free agency typically are on the right side of 30. Cornerback Adam Jones isn’t, but he’s still being heavily pursued.

The Jets have shown interest in Jones during the two-day tampering period, per a source with knowledge of the situation.

The 2005 top-10 pick who has spent the last six years with the Bengals now has a list of suitors that includes the Raiders, Dolphins, Browns, Vikings, Cowboys, and Ravens.

As of 4:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Jones can sign with any team. Before then, he can sign only with the Bengals.

A year after spending big on cornerbacks, the Jets may be in the market for another one.

The team has expressed interest in several free agent corners, according to multiple reports. The most interesting name is Adam “Pacman” Jones, who Pro Football Talk reported is on the Jets’ radar.

Jones has played for the Bengals since 2010. He is perhaps better known for his off-field issues than his play. He was suspended for the entire 2007 season after several incidents, including a shooting in Las Vegas. He had three interceptions and 12 passes defended last year for Cincinnati. His season ended in controversy when he was penalized late in the Bengals’ playoff game with the Steelers for making contact with an official. The penalty helped put the Steelers in range for the game-winning field goal.

Fox Sports reported the Jets have also shown interest in Giants free agent cornerback Prince Amukamara. The 2011 first-round pick had one interception and 10 passes defended last year.

The Jets signed Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie and Buster Skrine last year when free agency opened in a spending spree to bolster the position.

The team released Cromartie last month. The Jets have Marcus Williams and Dee Milliner, their 2013 first-round pick, but may believe they need a more proven player opposite Revis.

Are any of these CBs mentioned upgrades over Cro? I think so but Prince is very injury prone.

Marcus Sherels is a very nice upgrade on ST over Kerley. Wouldn't mind seeing him. Our ST's WS garbage last year and Kerley was useless as a PR.
