20 Mill is good.. We can get Mo signed long term... Possibly sign a WR and see what shakes loose with the June 1st cuts

Maybe geno will pull a Brady and restructure to get more cap space, you know like the minimum salary.

if you drill down onto the team page, it doesn't seem to include either cromartie or gilchrist, so $20 million probably is greatly overstated

Yeah, I think calls for a Wilk extension this year are all but moot. Not happening this year. The team smartly entered into negotiations to see what his number is and this may have led to the big spending this year. They don't know his true value yet since it's a new regime in place.

With that much remaining, don't expect more than a vet WR added and possibly a backup ILB all for little money expensed. They need to carry some money over to next year and also sign this year's draft picks.

They could have already said we want you and agreed to sign him with a guarantee he is signed next year first.

a couple things to consider:

mo already counts for an almost $7 million cap hit (his base salary this year), so an extension may not necessarily be that much of an incremental amount towards this year's cap. it could also include guaranteed monies next year and future bonus payments, or a signing bonus this year and a lower base salary which could even lower the 2015 cap charge. so a long-term extension wouldn't necessarily be all incremental cap charges, especially with him already being on the books for almost $7MM.

also, there are players counted against the cap who could be cut at a later date. guys like pace ($2.25MM) and babin ($1.625MM) may not make the team, and other than the recent $250K bonus payments they recently received, they can be cut with no cap impact. if we draft a pass rusher early in the draft, i'd guess at least one of them will be gone (if not both). then you have someone like darrin walls, who has a $1MM salary, who is no certainty to make the team with all the CB additions. so there is flexibility in the roster.

Great points and thanks for pointing out the obvious that I didn't see - his 7M would of course be slightly increased and afforded.
