IF.....IF it is indeed the Achilles.........the odds are the Jets will need a new pass rusher next year. It's just very tough to recover and even tougher to recapture pre-injury performance level. Suggs has done it, but don't put all your hope on a unicorn.

What contract implications would the Jets have if having to ponder cutting him next year?
I agree a tough injury to come back from

Be interesting to see how they compensate for his loss. There isn't a DE of his caliber left in the free agency cupboard. The closest one to his skill set is Aldon Smith but his constant off field issues make him undesirable to any team. They might try the trade route to pick up the needed rusher or they might just go with the next man up philosophy which doesn't leave me feeling particularly good.

Bryce Huff is one way...

Camp battles just got interesting with Kyle Phillips and Hamilcar Rashed Jr. (Rashed Jr. already being praised for having a good camp)...

When Vinny Curry comes back will fill in some missing need...

It never changes to good luck for this team. A sinking feeling while it's still August. I feel badly for the team, the coaches, the fans, we fans. Similar to stabbing a big balloon and hear the air go out.

maybe for some but I stated from day one when we signed him that he was a roll of the dice because of his injured past...

the front office gambled and lost...

A $45 million gamble. Tired of looking for improvement as are many fans. Reset sucks. Will we ever see reload?

well we don't know how the contract was written...
they had to be cautious in how they wrote it with his past...

Bryce Huff looks good and could be that guy in this defense...
CJ Mosley will bring some type of difference at the second level...
Quinnen Williams is already a beast...
Folorunso Fatukasi is our plug inside...
John Franklin-Myers showed upside...
Now with Nasirildeen & Sherwood at the linebacker position could be a beginning of a bright future...
We have some pieces on the DL like Hamilcar Rashed Jr. & Kyle Phillips...

As you were writing your post, which is courageously optimistic, I was reading where Robert Saleh has a tough job filling this decade(s) long void. An edge rusher of note.
Good job.

Good job.
Robert Saleh and Jeff Ulbrich don't need Joe Douglas to buy an Edge Rusher they can develop one from what we have with their scheme and play call, talking up players is what our Head Coach states he is going to do then he needs to do that while Ulbrich needs to put them boys in the right position to be successful...

I feel that we'll be fine. The DL is the strongest unit. They did a good job addressing it, and Saleh dealt with injuries there last year. The impact from Lawson would've been exciting to watch but injuries are part of the game. Next man up. Plus, this scheme and technique allows several players to make contributions. The pressures are what count, not so much sacks. At least there's depth. Now an injury to our QB, that's where I hold concern, and that's for the entire year. Overall, it's the response in the face of adversity. Well welcome adversity. This is the NFL.

With my "Murphy's Law" conditioning, every time a play succeeds against us, I might say. (probably will) "If only Lawson was in there....".
Hey , most of you remember when one off season we were a FAVORITE not to just go to the Super Bowl, but Vegas had us to win it.
We never came close. We lost by an Achilles Heel, Vinny's.
Ergo my Pavlovian response to all things Jets.

Yep, as mentioned we were odds-on favorites. Parcells and his "guys", not the Giants ones, were SB bound.
Enter stage right, Ray Lucas. He tried, the team tried but couldn't break the tape that year. Oh, it was Game#1 to boot. Or to heel.

I always felt that if hd had gone to Lucas earlier rather than Rick Mirer, that we still would have won.

and the worst part is what happened next. Hess died, Woody bought the team and Parcells left. what if Hess had lived for another 5 years? we may have been the cheatahs and brady may never have played a single snap

Agreed....Bad things really came in threes that season. Vinny down, Parcells left, Hess passed on.
Hess and Werblin really were kick ass owners,as Hess used to say, "let's kick ass".
The Johnson's? Born on third base and thought they hit a triple.
