Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is headed to Minnesota for a Wednesday interview, but multiple sources say it’s a formality. Harbaugh heads there planning to sign a deal to become the NFL Vikings’ head coach.

Harbaugh was not in his office at Schembechler Hall today. Other sources told TheWolverine.com that while he didn’t address the team, he did say some “goodbyes” and “thank yous” yesterday.

Until then, it had been business as usual, with Harbaugh recruiting and making his spring schedule.

Harbaugh was linked to the Las Vegas Raiders in December, with many believing he was the franchise’s top candidate. The Miami Dolphins opening emerged, but owner and Michigan booster Stephen Ross vowed he “wouldn’t be the one to take Harbaugh from Michigan.”

There was speculation Ross would get involved if it became a foregone conclusion Harbaugh was headed to the NFL. Instead, Harbaugh is expected to replace Mike Zimmer as the Vikings’ next head coach.

Michigan’s players are in wait and see mode, as are the coaches. At least a few are expected to join Harbaugh in Minnesota.

“Everyone is wondering if they’ll have a job much longer,” a source in the building said. “The team will be notified of everything on Thursday.”

Harbaugh led Michigan to the Big Ten title in his seventh season, a 12-2 record with a win over Ohio State and No. 3 national finish.

Sources have also confirmed that Carolina Panthers coach Matt Rhule is, indeed, on Michigan A.D. Warde Manuel’s wish list to replace Harbaugh should the Wolverines make an external hire. Rhule is coming off a pair of five-win seasons at Carolina, but he had great success at Temple, including a pair of 10-win seasons. He led Baylor to an 11-win season his third year, but finished the 2019 season with losses to Oklahoma and Georgia.

Rhule, however, never beat a ranked team during his time with the Bears.

If the Wolverines go with an internal hire, sources believe it’s Mike Hart — not Josh Gattis — who will get the look. The running backs coach was Associate Head coach at Indiana in addition to RBs coach. He joined Harbaugh’s staff after helping lead the Hoosiers to an outstanding season, including a win over U-M.

Watch for more on these Harbaugh developments in the hours and days to come …

Gotta agree about Hart. Rhule will get a long look but with recruiting the way it has been going Hart might bring some sense of continuity for the guys coming in and allow them to keep some or all of them.

If they keep Hart and the most of the Staff they might not take too much of a hit. Rhule coming in might be a positive or a negative in that respect but I haven't heard much about it.

Minnesota wasn't willing to give him full autoimmunity to run the whole organization, so going back to Michigan was his only play...
He had a new contract in place in Michigan before he headed to the Vikings . Dont think the $ was enough in Minnesota.

He wasn't on his way out. He single handedly saved Michigan Football (even before this year) and win/lose/draw his Michigan alumni absolutely loves him. He could've went to so many National Championship Contending Football Programs; but he picked his hometown school of Michigan.

Think about it. Michigan might have 11 National Championship All-Time but 10 of them came back in the days of 1901, 1902, 1903, 1904, 1918, 1923, 1932, 1933, 1947 and 1948.

Michigan Football is extremely overrated man. Because this isn't the early 1900's/1920s/1930s or 1940s anymore.

And the their last National Championship was 1997 of 25 years ago.

During Jim Harbaugh's 7 years @ Michigan he completely saved Michigan Football by going 61-24 (.717%) in comparison to the 7 years before him while only going 46-42 (.522%).

This year or not, they weren't going to fire Jim Harbaugh because if they did; no respectable NCAA/NFL Head Coach would've ever wanted anything to do with Michigan Football anymore (moving forward). He's got a lifetime home in Michigan for as long as he desires (and rightfully so).

At the end of the day it'll become extremely difficult for Michigan to continue recruiting without Jim Harbaugh. Who goes to Vacation in Michigan? High School kids don't want to go to Michigan to party in College. It's freezing cold with disgusting weather; which is why they all come down here to the South with beautiful weather and beaches (Florida) and also warmer weather states such as Georgia/Louisiana/Texas/Carolina's and Alabama.

Heck. Even Ohio State only has 2 National Championships dating back to the 1970s (2002 and 2014).

Vs.

In comparison to Florida Football down here in the South with FSU (3), Gators (3) and Hurricanes (5) ='s 11 in State National Championships dating back to the 1980s (and 8 dating back to the 1990s with FSU (3), Gators (3) and Miamu U (2). Then you've got Alabama with 7 National Championships dating back to the 1990s and Clemson with 3 since the 1980s. These 3 southern states = 21 Titles dating back to the 1980s.

In terms of winning championships? Ohio State and especially Michigan Football just isn't it anymore and Jim Harbaugh single handedly saved Michigan Football to at least becoming relevant again due to only 46-42 (.522%) throughout the 7 years before Harbaugh's arrival).
LOL. Your bias is showing. Why did they cut his salary before this off-season? He had to bring in new coaches because He couldn't get it done by himself. 2-5 in post season career at Michigan. You obviously know NOTHING about U of M Football and the expectations surrounding it. ONE loss is considered an average Season while 2 is a disaster. Couldn't beat OHIO STATE until this year which was the primary reason He was hired. Throw all the stats you want but here are the only ones that matter to a Michigan Fan:

3-13 against top 10 Teams(54-10 vs. everyone else).
3-9 vs OSU/MSU(35-8 VS The rest of the Big 10).
6-22 When it mattered. Any other HC would have been toast with that record against the Big Boys. STILL A PUTZ.

UM expectations and reality are two separate things.

Because reality is that Michigan might have 11 National Championships All-Time but 10 of them came back in the days of 1901, 1902, 1903, 1904, 1918, 1923, 1932, 1933, 1947 and 1948 🤭🤫🤭

So all of those local Michigan fans can take their "expectations" and talk to someone else about them because I'm not buying what they're selling (especially not down here within ACC/SEC Country I'm not).

Congratulations for 1997 of 25 years ago?

But yeah. Right. Let's harp all over Jim Harbaugh as only a Putz would do.

1 loss is considered an average season while 2 is a disaster? Well then ever since the 1940s (outside of 1997) it looks like Jim Harbaugh took over a complete disastrous Michigan Football program, no?

As an FSU fan I'd love to have a head coach of Jim Harbaugh's caliber.

Just wondering. Who's your favorite NCAA Football team?
I must be mistaken. DID you ignore his record against top 10 teams? OF COURSE YOU DID AS ONLY A PUTZ WOULD. Not to mention his record against OSU AND MSU. LOL. Rail all you want but once again you have no leg to stand on. Beating Rutgers and their ilk mean nothing. Now run along, back to Fantasy Land.

Who's your favorite college Football team?

And would you mind telling me every other Michigan HC outside of Jim Harbaugh who've failed to win a Championship from 1949 up until 1997 and then from 1997 and beyond?

It's all "Jim Harbaugh's" fault.

Who's your favorite college football team? That'll explain a lot for me.
First of all Answer the question. Why are you ignoring the fact that against ranked teams Harbaughs teams have crapped the bed? Keep Deflecting Putz.

Oh and I'm an OSU fan going back to Woody Hayes. Google it as I know you have to do.
