The Jets added Isaiah Crowell to their backfield early in free agency and they are scheduled to meet with another running back on Thursday.

Brian Costello of the New York Post reports that the team is set to host Thomas Rawls for a visit. Rawls was not tendered by the Seahawks as a restricted free agent and visited the Chiefs earlier this month.

Rawls had a bright start to his career with 830 yards for Seattle in 2015, but injuries have dimmed his output the last two seasons. Rawls has missed 11 games and averaged just over three yards per carry after bursting for 5.6 yards per carry during his rookie season.

Adding Rawls would make for a competitive backfield situation for the Jets as they have Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire on hand in addition to Crowell.

I’ve watched Rawls a little bit and I like him. Health is the issue here. If he signs, either Powell or McGuire is a potential roster cut.

I think most teams try to keep four quality RB's because they take such a pounding.

That said, Rawls would be a nice addition and round out a good stable that goes four deep.

Powell, a possible trade for a 3 or 4 would be my guess. He has value to a contending team.

I don't think we could get a 3rd for Powell. I think more in the 5th Rd area. or as Old#15 referred to,, maybe a playoff contending team needs that type of player willing to give up a #3 pick. Also I have heard that the Jets are not that encouraged by McGuire.

Yeah draft pick compensation always seems below market to me. Good players getting traded for late round picks. It’s almost like a salary dump, or teams taking anything just to unload a player.

Bilal is a good RB, but he’s approaching 30 and that’s where this position starts to expire. It seems like a reset is in motion with Macc right now to move forward with the 22-28 group. Rawls is 24, by the way.

Rawls rushed for 209 yards in one game in his rookie season with Seattle. He also rushed for 161 in a playoff game against the Lions a few years ago.

We signed him. Details to come.
Cool, I like him a lot in I heard his production fell off because he was playing on a bum ankle.

I also like that he's only 24 years old. I wanted us to draft another RB, but we lost both 2's and this is like drafting a RB.

Like I said earlier, I like to carrying four good RB's, now I feel comfortable that we are.

Powell
Crowell
McGuire
Rawls

Carrying four running backs might mean there will be no carrying four QB's. Looks like Petty, who should be out no matter what, is gone. Hackenberg better step it up because he is fighting for his football life.
Although if/when the Jets cut him, some team will pick him up immediately and probably straighten him out and make the Jets coaching staff look like fools.

Rawls is a North/South type back who barrels into defenders and is not afraid of contact. Similar to Crowell. He’s got a little wiggle in his cutbacks, and can catch the ball too. He’s almost identical to Crowell. 215 pounder with decent speed.

We’re gonna run the ball this season. More than last season, that’s for sure.

Yep, Jets are loading up on RB's to help out the young QB they draft.

That means we're carrying three QB's, tops ... the one we draft at #3, and two more.

Bryce Petty should’ve already had his bags packed yesterday. He’s gone.

Hackenberg was a guy Maccagnan really liked, so maybe he’s got a small chance of sticking. But with McCown, Bridgewater and a #3 overall pick it might be time to start calling O’Brien in Houston.

Rawls is not a bad pick-up but he's going to have to improve over his last two seasons if he's going to make the roster. He's been plagued by injury and his production has dropped from 5 yds per carry to 3yds per carry approximately. I like the signing only if he can get healthy and return to the sort of production he had in his rookie season. He must have passed the physical because they signed him so in light of that and considering his age he just might pull it off. I hope so. A good running game would do wonders for taking pressure off whoever is under center.
