Before the Raiders hired Greg Olson as Jon Gruden’s offensive coordinator, there was a report that Jets offensive coordinator John Morton could be their choice and that the Jets would not stand in the wayof Morton’s departure.

Morton won’t be the Raiders offensive coordinator, but he may not be back with the Jets either. Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that Morton could still be out as the Jets set their coaching staff for the 2018 season.

Per the report, the team has had discussions about moving quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates to Morton’s position although Bates is said to not want that promotion. There’s also word that the Jets remain interested in possibly hiring Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo. DeFilippo was blocked from interviewing for the coordinator position last year.

Whatever the Jets decide to do on the coaching side, getting that playcaller a long-term answer at quarterback is expected to be a top priority of the team’s offseason.

Well, we, at least I think, that the offense failed to impress this season. There were some questionable play calls but I tend to put some of the fault on the skill set of our offensive players. In other words I think that to be fair we should look at what he had to work with in which case it's tough to lay it all on Morton. My question would be who could they bring in that would immediately make a difference ?

If there is any truth to this, I'd be willing to bet that this goes back to the Denver game where Morton not only quit on the team, but then had the nerve to admit it to the media.

Could have a lot to do with it too.

This is a joke. Bowles is a joke. His shitty defense who we spend all our resources on still has its playcaller but we are going to let go someone who has over performed?

what is Kacy Rogers doing?

If this is about quitting in Denver then we should fire Bowles bc he quit on the team a long time before Morton ever got the chance to.

REALLY?

We saw at the end of the last season that the Petty to Anderson combo could be a very effective weapon. Yes, short sample size, but when Petty was inserted as the QB this year, the play calling became very conservative. They were not given the chance to refine what we had seen the year before. Why not? Questionable? This was an insult to the players and the fans.
We may have a Darryl Lamonica here, and they tried to turn him into Dink and Dunk Charley.
Al Davis would have fired his OC in ten seconds if he had tried to pull that crap. Unfortunately, we have Bowles.

Somebody wants to take the OC?
Let them.

You guys realize that Todd Bowles is the head coach of the team, right? If hes unhappy with something , its his job to tell Morton to fix it. If hes going too conservative, Bowles job is to tell Morton to open it up. Quite frankly, reports say that WASNT an issue this year.

What this shows is that we have a completely clueless and walking dead head coach that we are going to be stuck with now for the 2018 season. Bowles still thinks you win games by running the ball 40 times a game and playing "not to lose" defense. Same crap as our former HC except he HAD talent for a while to pull off the ground and pound and it was still 2009,2010, 2011.

It is now 2018 and its a passing league yet bowles is upset Morton realizes that and is trying to get our offense up to speed with how you win in todays NFL. This just illustrates how incompetent our head coach is.

As someone mentioned earlier, why does KC rogers have a job if Morton is on the chopping block? Morton def over achieved with no OL, RB injuries all year and a journeyman who was 2-21 in his last 23 starts. IF anyone should be canned its Rogers who along with bowles schemed Leo Williams into a nobody and runs this good for nothing swiss cheese defense.

The rumor is Bruce Arians will be involved in Jets training camp. What if, really what if the plan is for Arians to be OC under Bowles?? It sounds stupid, crazy and far fetched, but Arians and Bowles have had a connection since college and are really close. What if Arians who is kinda crazy wants to help Bowles and thinks it would be a cool idea? What if he wants to help out Bowles, develop a young QB for Bowles and end his career with Bowles? Maybe I'm crazy to think this or crazy enough to really want this to happen.

I did read that he intends to visit them in training camp. It was pointed out that it was a visit only and nothing more, but, we all know how these things can change fast in the NFL. He got past his cancer problem OK I believe and he's still a young man. I believe in his early to mid sixties. He loves football, has no current contracts to get in the way, and his presence could certainly be beneficial.

I don't think there is a chance in hell Arians comes out of retirement to be an OC for us. I do believe he will do what Tom Moore did in 2011 for Schotty.... And if people remember the weeks he came in during the season and helped with the Offense, Sanchez was fire.... Unfortunately Schotty diddn't learn from Moore a damn thing. Lets hope Morton learns from Arians and grows.

I guess I'm getting careless because of my old age. I don't believe they would actually coax him out of retirement to coach but I can invision him hanging around some to see if he can help his friend with the development of his young team. But, I've been wrong before.

I think you are right about him not actually coming out of retirement to take the coaching job. At least not initially, but stranger things have happened. I do believe that he might spend a lot of time, especially during training camp, trying to help Bowles make this team competitive. If it goes well on a lending a friend a hand basis, then, it would not surprise me to see that happen too. Either way it can't hurt to have him around especially if he can have an impact on our QB crew.

it wasn't Arians that had cancer in was Pagano, who Arians stood in for and did a really strong job.

Arians may come to our OTAs but make no mind he won't be joining the coaching staff he will be more of an adviser to TB...

You are correct about Pagano but wrong about Arians. Ariens is a kidney cancer survivor. You are also right that Ariens did a really strong job.
