Again, I hear that on the AZ site about Rosen too. We shall see. I am up on both my Qb's because I have to be LOL........Time will tell........I am down on both my Qb's as the past has not been kind to me.......I am up on all my QB's because you have to get it right sometime........At least I am up when I drink:global (10):

I think both are the new versions of Elway or Young (Darnold) and Marino or P. Manning (Rosen). If so, sky’s the limit for both teams.

Addressing the title of this thread describing Darnold as “Pro ready”, I’m not so sure about that. We’re talking about a 20 year old kid making a huge jump to the NFL. I don’t want to see this situation get rushed. I’m a big believer in giving every rookie QB a red shirt first year. We’ve got 15 years to enjoy this. Let’s not get greedy.

i disagree with giving him a full red shirt year. that's not to say rush him before he's ready. but there's no reason he shouldn't start about half the games this year. let him get his feet wet this year and hit the ground running in 2019 when the team has added more talent around him.

if he sews up his delivery and ball security his overall intangibles are far superior to what we have had in the last decade... He doesn't stare down his target, knows how to survey the field and is able to look off defenders to give his receivers more ability to make a catch... he is more pro ready option since Chad Pennington, and has the velocity with accuracy to hit those out routes shown on his tape...

If Sam shows he’s ready for the NFL, by all means, play him.

I’m just saying, don’t count on it.

And there’s nothing wrong with that. Rookie QB’s coming in and playing at that level are rare.

Whether he’s ready to play or not day one and I hope he is but even if he isn’t, I’m excited about Jets football again. The HC, OC, QBC and GM know they can’t keep this kid off the field if he’s or when he ready to go. They’d be stupid to do so and they know that. Shit, I might even buy the NFL ticket again this year. If not, I’ll be at the Hooters or BWW every weekend glued to the TV. Can’t say that’s been the case for about 3-5 years now. I’ve gone from missing a game here and there and not feeling guilty at all five years ago to intentionally not watching games and not buying the NFL ticket for the last two years. Not anymore, Darnold and the Jets gave restore my Jets watching hunger.

Best case for the jets this summer is that Darnold and Bridgewater separate themselves from the pack, and we get a trade offer for TB similar to the Vikes/Eagles deal a couple of years ago. It won't be #1's with Bridgewater's injury history, but we could get a #2 and/or #3 back from a desperate team.

Biggest concern is will the offensive line hold up. I wouldn't feed him to the wolves if he has to run for his life. Too many young QB's got gun shy because of that. However, if the Oline holds up I think a reasonable time would maybe be week 10 at home against Buffalo. Then after that game he would have two weeks to evaluate his performance and be ready to show the Pats what their future look like for the next 15 years: in the words of Clubber Lang - Pain.

I haven't been this stoked about an upcoming year in a while. Just anxious to watch him play in pre-season.

I am anxious to see him develop relationships with some of the young skill guys like Hansen/Anderson/Stewart/Enunwa/Leggett and Herndon. If he turns out to be as good as we all hope and expect, then one or two of the above named will reap the rewards of a great young QB.

With our less-than-stout o-line, the kid is going to get his bell rung a few times once he does start. If he can come back from that, he'll probably be ok...

Darnold should start when he is ready and not before.
He has a total of 32 games playing QB at the High school and college level.
His foot work and delivery need work. He has to learn to read a Defense, audible, and take snaps under center.
His ball security issues began at the beginning of camp last year and we're such an issue they USC restructured the spring game format and just ran drills instead.
Between staring down recievers , and his awkward delivery , he will become an interception machine vs NFL D backs. The windows are much smaller and close much faster than what he has seen. Let him learn and develop.
No need to throw him out too soon, looking at the schedule, hopefully McCown can stay healthy through the first 7 games. Darnold is far from ready , especially if he is forced to face Jax, Minnesota, and Denver early.

Helton has to say he's pro ready and I would expect that from him. Support your guys as much as possible. Darnold is smart, has all the right tools and his faults are all correctable but it's not likely to happen over night. He has, as Tony pointed out above, a lot to learn and correct before he is NFL READY instead of pro ready. If he gets to that point then of course we play him but let's not, because of pure eagerness to have a franchise QB, throw him to the wolves and dash all of our hopes and dreams for this team.
