His name comes up every year around the NFL draft, as the player you don't want to become, even though he is long gone from the league.
The Jets drafted defensive end Vernon Gholston sixth overall out of Ohio State in 2008. He went down as one of the biggest busts in the draft's history.
Gholston had no sacks -- or other notable statistics -- in three seasons with the Jets, who released him four years ago this March.
He was one of several misses in general manager Mike Tannenbaum's final five drafts with the Jets, after he started strong in his first two drafts, 2006 and 2007.
Gholston hasn't played in the NFL since, though he did have brief training camp chances with the Bears and Rams, in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
Then, out of nowhere, Gholston reappeared Tuesday, when he wrote on his Twitter account that Washington was giving him a tryout. He turns 29 in June.

Even if Gholston fizzles out with Washington, we'll always have this fantastic piece of HBO "Hard Knocks" footage to commemorate his NFL career.
