Cooper..the Jets haven't gone near an DE/OLB college pass rusher since Gholston. The guys that's been coming having done much of anything...but the recovers on the other hand have come into the league and impressed. Trading for Marshall shouldn't stop the team from adding a top offense talent.

Agreed Cy, but just out of curiosity, is Wingo related to Lupati?

:)

LOL, I'm old & slow, but not dumb ! I knew it was Iupati & Mingo, I just like goofing with people. Nick Mangold's father used to be on the Scout board until fans got crappy with him, but he PM and asked me to quit calling him Mango !
Too many epic fails in Jet history of the draft, go with the sure pick, Cooper.

Now if you asked me to choose between Kevin White WR & Fowler OLB, I might have to go LB there. Eli Harold OLB is a stud, why pick Beasley @ 6 when we can get Eli @ 37 ?

Beasley. This defense is lacking a true edge rusher , and Beasley could be the piece of the puzzle to make this Jet defense the best we've seen in years. I can actually envision , with the potential lock down secondary , opposing QB's ' Brady ' , going into panick mode !

Even if those percentages were accurate in general terms, IMO they aren't in respect to the Jets.

Bring a "good" pass rusher onto this team and watch him become elite, simply because of the talent around him.

Bring an "elite" WR and watch him become pedestrian until we have a quality QB behind center.

If the talent level is truly that vast, I agree go with the better prospect. But I don't see how a WR will take this team further than a pass rusher will, especially not today, and likely ever . . .
Well, setting up a good offense attracts qb's, like Denver and manning. But I don't think cooper is on the board at 6.
If we draft either guy I'm happy, and if either doesn't work out, you can't blame the gm. Both are solid options.

I'm a firm believer that Defenses win Championships and we need a good OLB in the worst way. I picked Cooper only because I feel he is going to be an extremely talented and productive weapon for the Jets.

I'm comfortable with our WR group right now so Beasley makes WAY more sense. Adding to that is the fact that we can add a potentially great WR in rounds 3 or 4 in Conley, Green, Lockett, or Diggs. The draft is deep at WR, our team is the deepest it's been in years at WR, and we desperately need an edge rusher and to get younger at LB. This all equals no-brainer in my book.

+1. If it wasn't for the Marshall trade then I would have chosen Cooper. With him being here now, LB is our biggest hole and WR can be addressed in the later rounds.

Did anyone catch the interview with Landon Collins S from Alabama yesterday. He was asked who was the most dangerous WR he's ever had to cover in his career, and he said without question, it's the guy I have to practice against everyday Amari Cooper. He said no Alabama player works harder than Cooper, and that he even skipped Spring Break to stay on campus to work-out. He's a great kid and not a typical WR premadonna / Diva type.

Wow, I didn't see that interview and didn't know this. This is very impressive and may just sway my decision a bit. I picked Beasley only because Marshall fills our WR void right now and we can draft WR in the rounds but I didn't know this. WOW!

Amari Cooper
COLLEGE: Alabama
Class: Jr
HT: 6-0
WT: 211
POS: WR
2014-15 STATS
REC 115
YDS 1656
AVG 14.4

Analysis: Cooper is as complete a receiver as you'll find coming out of the college game. He is a great route-runner who does an excellent job of tracking the ball and competing for it in the air, and he has very good run-after-catch skills. He doesn't have elite athleticism, but his 4.42 40-yard dash time put to rest concerns about his top-end speed. He's something of a cross between Jordy Nelson and Roddy White in terms of his separation skills.

COLLEGE: West Virginia
Class: Sr
HT: 6-2
WT: 215
POS: WR
2014-15 STATS
REC 102
YDS 1318
AVG 12.9

Analysis: White has excellent size for the position to go along with very good ball skills and run-after-catch ability, and he turned a lot of heads with his 4.35 40 time in Indy, which is outstanding for his size. His best trait is his ability to threaten defenses as a vertical route-runner and in the red zone.
#24Vic Beasley
COLLEGE: Clemson
Class: Sr
HT: 6-3
WT: 246
POS: OLB

Analysis: He explodes off the line of scrimmage with elite first-step quickness, and he is an outstanding overall athlete. He has the potential to develop into a sideline-to-sideline defender in the NFL, and has the movement skills to fare very well when dropping into coverage. He also possesses elite playmaking instincts. The big concern with him is the lack of a power element to his game in college. His bulking up to 246 pounds (up 26 from last spring) at the combine and maintaining his speed and quickness while doing so was a very promising sign.
From McShay, I'd prefer White or Cooper. Doesn't seem like Beasley is even that highly touted of a prospect. Maybe Gregory instead, but not Beasley

I chose Cooper, Beasley put on weight and how do we know he can hold it. Could be the next Maybin. Cooper's floor would be Reggie Wayne.

Best reason I've read to take Beasley...Build on a strength. By the time we get a QB Cooper might be ready for FA..

Mike Cooper's rookie contract is going to be 4 years with a 5th year option, and based on your 4 year theory, Marshall, Decker, Pace, Babin, Revis, Harris, Cromartie, Ferguson, Mangold & others will have already retired. IMO, we have about a 2 year window starting next season. I like Beasley, but he's a DE not OLB and some experts think he's a one trick pony ? I heard that before & ignored it and got killed.

Cy - good points and can't disagree. It's just my insatiable desire to have one of those killer defenses and a top flight edge rusher might buy us that.

Yeah but why hasn't Coples but up double digit sacks every year then? Isn't the defensive line a strength? Clearly there is more to it than having a first rounder in that position

Playing Coples at LB is playing him out of his natural position and something that has never made any sense to me. In fact, I think it's retarded.

We have taken a potentially dominant end and made him an average (at best) LB. If he doesn't fit your system then you shouldn't have drafted him. And maybe it would be best to ship him to a team who runs a conventional 4-3. But playing him at LB is stupid.

Comparing Coples speed and ability to get to the passer to Beasley's, from the LB position, is like comparing the explosiveness of Tommy Bohannon and CJ Spiller out of the backfield. Not even in the same league.

Also, saw something above where a poster says that Beasley is naturally a 4-3 DE that the NFL is trying to convert to LB. That is foolishness. Beasley is a natural LB who played DE in college out of need. His natural position is LB and always has been.

I'm all for Cooper joining the Jets. I love him as a player. I just think Beasley represents a greater need and they are comparable talents. But those who down Beasley with ridiculous criticisms so they can "lobby" their guy (like it matters at all what we think), are off the mark. Both are among the best players in this draft.

I don't think comparing the production and upside between the DE/OLB and the receivers coming out of college is criticism. Recent history says you have to be concerned about the college pass rushers, while the receivers havye been coming in making an impact. The team resigned both Pace and Babin and Bowles likes to play a lot of corners and safeties. I think an ILB who can cover on 3rd down is just as important as a guy who may or not get to the QB. It's also time for the team to add a quality offensive player thru the draft.

As much I like Cooper (way better than White) I chose Beasley Coopers great skill set will be negated by our QB situation early on, and the fact he isnt playing ahead of Decker or Marshall.... The early return will be with Beasley. However I would like to state that I would rather have Fowler over either....

Which would you guy's prefer ?

Beasley & Coates or

Eli Harold & Cooper ?

To me being a ACC homer, there is not much difference between the LB's, but a big difference from WR. Coates or Beckham-Green will either drop passes or become a Diva, while Cooper is the real deal.
