Everson Griffen opted to void the remainder of his contract (2020-22), which creates $13M in cap space for the Vikings who desperately need it.

Griffen met two figures that voided the final three years of his contract (2020-22) by tallying six or more sacks and playing 57% or more of the snaps last season, and he exercised the right to opt out of his deal (ESPN).

There's a belief that Minnesota will work out a way to keep him around at a reduced price.

I got the impression that he was worried about becoming a cap casualty so this makes it simple for him to stay on a new reduced contract.
