Yeah, we stink, so what, we always stink right? This years stinking seems more sad then usual to me. this team was built to stink. built to get a top QB in the draft. Well, we can't even stink good. what do our good old Jets do but go out from the start and put an end to our hopes of drafting 1 or 2. They go out and quickly win 4 games including beating Cleveland one of our main competitors for the pick.

How about the other team in our stadium? They started the season with expectations of beating the cheatahs in the superbowl for the 3rd time and what happened? They stink too. Turns out they don't have an offensive line either. anybody who has watched brady write a book while waiting for a receiver to get open should know how important the offensive line is. the guy has been in the league forever, not because he has a good diet or a good workout regimen. He's been in the league forever because for 15 years he never got hit. He expects not to get hit and throws a fit when he does, because for most of his career he never saw pressure. A few years ago the cheatahs offensive line coach, Dante Scarneccia retired and the oline started to get worse. belichick , being the genius, that he is, brought Scarneccia out of retirement and has since won a few more superbowls. They've won so many, I can't keep track of the number but I believe it's 2 straight and counting. and let's admit it, this year, they are winning it again. It 's such a sure thing that Vegas won't even let you bet on them... Anyway, I digress from my point here...

WE STINK... and sadly, we are not even good at stinking because we have already blown the top pick. Again , look at the Giants. They are better than us in every way. They even stink better then us. They played the 49ers this past week. A team that is in competition with them for the #1 pick and what did the Giants do? They did the smart thing , they lost . You can bet, had our good old Jets played the 49ers, they would have found a way to beat them.

So in a year when we were supposed to compete for the #1 pick we can't even do that right and we may be watching the Giants draft the guy who should have been ours WHILE WE DRAFT ANOTHER DEFENSIVE LINEMAN IN HOPES THAT WE FINALLY GET A DEFENSE WITH ENOUGH ENERGY TO STAY ON THE FIELD THE WHOLE DAMN GAME

Those darn Giants even stink better than us!

All due respect to your rant, I think we are in decent shape? I mean a shit load of this all boils down to the future and whether our GM has the goods to make this thing work, but I think he COULD be on the right track?

First of all, we were all foolish for thinking this team would deliberately tank? That wasn't going to happen so long as we had a HC that wanted to keep his job. Bowles likes MONEY. he wasn't going to get himself fired by allowing this team to tank for the number 1 pick. When we knew Toilet would start McCown, we should've known what his real intentions were?

Second of all, I don't think expected this team to win as many games as they did? I know I didn't. I didn't think they would win a single game?

I also don't think that's a bad thing? Based on how young the team is and based on how well they played given their plight, there's actually a LOT to be encouraged by? They are ahead of the rebuilding curve. They look better than any team I have ever seen in their first year of rebuilding a team. So this should be encouraging for fans.

Third of all, Mac has accumulated a "war chest" to use in FA. The Jets are going to have somewhere in the vicinity of 80 million in cap space to sign FA's. That is a LOT of cap space to pick and choose the right players to continue this rebuild. Now, don't go thinking the Jets are going to spend all of that 80 million next March with every intention of going SB or bust in 2018? Mac will likely sign a few FA's and rolled the rest of the free cap space into next years cap?

What concerns me the most thinking about the future is the following:

1) Is Mac the guy? He's hot and cold to me? Sometimes I think he's doing a great job and other times I think he sucks? For me, right now I like him. We are finally seeing the young talent start to stand up and make contributions? I NEVER believed the 2016 draft was anything more than GARBAGE? Well now, we see the 2017 and the 2016 draft starting to play better? For Christ sake, JORDAN JENKINS was the AFC player of the week a few weeks ago? Can you believe that? DARRON LEE is actually starting to become an OK run defender? He still stinks in pass coverage, but I am amazed we're seeing anything out of him? Through 2 games this season, he had Vernon Gholston written all over him.

2) Does Mac know how to pick QB's? For my money, if Mac is ever going to show he can find franchise QB's, it will be in 2018? There will not be a larger crop of QB's coming out of college for a very long time after 2018? It's also a very deep and talented class of QB's? If Mac does not get us the next great QB either through FA or through the draft, he's NEVER going to do it. I am convinced of that. Mac has selected two QB's now through the draft and two through free agency? His two FA's have been serviceable, His two draft picks have stunk.

For me, selecting a franchise QB is the biggest question in all of this? Mac could be an excellent GM at drafting and managing the cap, but if he cannot get us a QB in a QB driven league, I think he'll ultimately be measured as comparable to someone like terry Bradway?

Either way, I don't think you should be pissing on the team the way you are? I could see cautiously optimistic? There's every reason to be cautious about giving Mac praise? But I do think the Jets as of this particular moment look like a much better than most of thought they'd be.............

As a jet fan you never want to have a good feeling about the Jets because you will end up getting let down.
I had high hopes when we went in the mudbowl game
I had high hopes when we started 10-1 until we lost our last 5 and eventually lost to you know who in Cleveland,
I was sure we would win the Superbowl when Parcells was our coach.
I had high hopes when Mangini showed up
I had high hopes for Rex
I had high hopes for Bowles because he had ties to Parcells
I had high hopes for Kotite NO I DIDN'T!
And every time my hopes were dashed...and the one time I had no hope , Kotite came through

so I'll stick with having no hope and maybe I'll be surprised some day

Did you really think we would go 0-16? It's actually hard to do. Going into each Jet season, you can pretty much plan on being somewhere between 6-10 and 10-6. Sometimes we are worse. hardly ever are we better. And as long as belichick has every other teams playbook, you can figure to be between 6 and 10 games out of first place too.

but seriously, If you want my hopeful input, I do kind of like what Mac has done. except that he hasn't addressed the offensive line. My hope for this season, however was to be bad enough to draft a franchise QB and right now it looks like we have failed at that

Johnjet, I've said it before. You are just too nice of a guy to deserve this team. I hope that you live at least a year longer than me so that you can finally see the Jets win a superbowl my friend:)

I look at it this way, the Bills HC just made a QB move. Yes they are in the playoff hunt at 5-4 but he already knows Taylor is not the answer. He also knows if Taylor was the answer, they would be 7-3 right now. He also knows that the two losses they suffered had a lot to do with their offense being exposed, mainly starting with the Jets game. He knows with Taylor they can't play from behind because he can't get the job done. He also knows that the 5 wins they have, they barely won them and that was mainly because of their running game and defense. He also knows and the main point is that they aren't going to resign Taylor, so why even bother going any further with him. He knows they have a young and talented team and he wants to see what this rookie QB can do for a few games at least. He also knows that they have, I believe 4 picks in the first two rounds. So if this QB their playing now doesn't turn out to be the guy for them, then they know they can use those picks to trade up and get the QB they believe will be.

This is the thought process these assholes should have with the Jets. You have this young team who they need to evaluate at all ends and think towards the future only. McCown has nothing to do with their future, so why the hell is he even playing??? He should have not been on the damn field in the first place in any of these games. This right here, was supposed to be a year of finding out could Petty or Hack be the guy and if not, they draft who they think might be the guy. Yes the team is playing decent this year but do they have a chance in hell of making the playoffs??? I don't think so, change that, I know they don't and not only do you Jets fans know it but they should to. So why aren't all the young players playing? Especially at the key positions. I just don't get it but of course I shouldn't. I'm not on the CS, scouting team, management team or a owner. I'm just a dumb ass Jets fan still routing for this circus act of an organization!!!

I agree that this team is headed in the right direction. I also agree that Mac will ultimately be judged on how he handles the QB position. His top draft picks on the defensive side of the ball have bright futures. On the offensive side of the ball, he's done well in Free Agency, getting players like Decker and Marshall and Carpenter. He's had less success drafting on offense so far, particularly with Petty and Hackenberg. I held out hope for Hackenberg, he has such great physical tools. If the kid could ever figure it out, he could be a perennial Pro Bowl player. But, so far at least he hasn't. Petty I always liked as a backup, with the potential to maybe turn into a starter if he was able to make the transition to a pro offense. So Mac needs to upgrade the offensive line for sure, find a QB, and find another WR to complement Anderson. It could be Hanson or Stewart, we'll see. They need more time. Our RBs are solid, but we could always add another next year either in Free Agency or in the draft. Mac's first priorities should be to find a QB and fix the o-line.

Which brings me to why McCown is still playing. I think there are a several reasons - 1. He's playing really well and deserves to start. 2. We installed a brand new offensive system, and we need a veteran that can run the system, and get the entire offense on the same page. A QB that is still struggling to figure it out really can't do that. One of the reasons Watson had so much success early on (besides his incredible physical talent and great pedigree) is because the rest of his offense knew the scheme. So he could get help along the way from his entire offense as he learned the system. Here, the QB needs to get everyone working on the same page, which takes experience. And finally, 3. Neither Hackenberg or Petty has shown they're ready to start. It's hard to replace a QB that has earned the starting job, is playing well, knows the offense, is a team leader and replace him with a QB that is not ready to lead the team. Tough sell.

I stand by my statement during the pre-season that Bowles deserves to stay for 2 more years to see what he can do with a rebuilt roster. And, Mac deserves the chance to implement his plan. He really didn't have the opportunity to completely rebuild the team. He's doing that now, and it is paying dividends. We're seeing growth with the younger players, a team that plays hard, and they've surprised everyone. The GM and Coach deserve more time to see this through.

Mac needs to be able to swallow his pride and admit where he was wrong, and move forward. a lot of GMs cant do that, or cant do it easily.

Hack, Petty, Devin Smith, Mauldin are all not worth a roster spot and have proven to be either draft misses (hack, smith) or just simply not worth the roster spot on a team with good depth (mauldin).

Now that's a waste of a 4, 2, 2, and 3. Tough pill to swallow but he has made some solid selections elsewhere and supplemented those with good free agent/UFA signings that should make life easier to move on from guys like mauldin, smith, and hack.

This coming offseason (90+MM cap room, a 1,2,2,3 to top off our draft) will be a franchise altering offseason one way or the other.

Nice points. Much as I think it's way more fun to bitch, whine and complain:), if I were to post where we're at in a positive light I would post pretty much exactly what you say here. Had they thrown Petty or Hack in here and one of them ended up playing like crap then Bowles loses the rest of the team because they quit on the season and then we don't see any growth from anyone.

A couple points though

1. at some point we will have to throw a young qb to the Lions, no not the Detroit Lions, just regular lions . There must be a solid offensive line in place at this time. Andrew Luck is a great player and will win a lot of games against average teams but he will never beat belichick in the playoffs until he has a real line in front of him

2. I hope the reason we have won some games this year is because we have some good young talent and not because we have a team overachieving because everyone said they wouldn't win a game. If the latter is the reason, then next season when they are expected to play better, they will probably end up underachieving. That would lead us back to the name tag "Same old Jets"

3. That offensive line thing again. Mac needs to understand the importance here and build a darn good one. Until then I'll stick with my beer and refrain from drinking the Kool Aide:)

trust me John, when the Jets finally make it to a superbowl 1 of 2 things will happen, during the week before the game. Maybe both

1. I will drop dead
2. The world will end (belichick will be responsible for this. heck he'll probably be responsible for #1 too)

And if the world doesn't end and the Jets actually play in the superbowl, they better darn well win!

Stink? Based on what? I didnt have any expectations of our Jets going to Playoffs/SuperBowl to think our Jets stink like the Giants with their SuperBowl Dreams. Giants STINK! Jets done about what I thought depending on effort by Players and Bowles Coaching getting better or the same. So Jets right now is interesting, When will Wilkerson start dogging us? How many Teammates join in with Wilkerson? Will Bowles get better? Right now he stinks. If it wasnt for the new Coaching additions on Offense & Defense Bowles would be even worse this year Coaching wise! Jets finally got an Offensive Cord. and the Defense Coaches like Greene even got Wilkerson to play hard! Next year GM needs to get a QB, RB, OL men and give our new Cord. something. Bowles needs to GO! Players do not play hard for him & his game planning and Punting plans are just silly. If we had the same Coaches as last year we would be 0-8 with Bowles. I'm sick of hearing Bowles deserves credit for Jets play when its all the addition to Coaching that was added and Players responded in kind! Fire Bowles, Draft some Offense & lets go JETS! Oh Mikey...if you dart board draft on the next Draft Taking High School talent level QB's like the one you Drafted in last years Draft you should be FIRED also with Bowles. Mikey Mac, TAKE DOWN THE DARTS AND DART BOARD WITH QB"S NAMES AND USE THE HEAD ON YOUR SHOULDERS & NOT BETWEEN YOUR LEGS WHEN DRAFTING QB'S!

After reading your quote here I am now convinced that we really do stink. Just because we expected to stink and we do, doesn't mean that we don't:) (I think thats funny) My point here is that we expected to stink and we were expected to compete for one of these quarterbacks and we have blown it. We didn't stink enough! We can't even stink the right way! We are the Jets! The Giants may have had hopes of ending the season playing the Cheatahs and now they have a better shot of drafting a new franchise qb. If you are going to stink then you might as well stink bad enough and at the right time to be able to draft a franchise qb when you need one. and besides needing many other things, we need one of them

Most, if not all of my posts are meant to be sarcastic humor. not everyone gets it I guess. We can all talk about what the Jets should do and what they need until we are blue in the face but none of it matters because we have no control over it anyway. I'd rather make light of the situation and make at least someone out there chuckle
