I was not a fan of the Gase hire at all. It made little sense to me at the time. On the other hand, I have been impressed with how he has handled the job, until yesterday. I think Gase was out coached in the second half, with no adjustments at all.
The offense looked unimaginative and the game plan pretty vanilla. Now, in fairness the Bills defense is legit. They're really, really good. And Darnold missed a few throws that would have won the game. He was also under constant pressure, so I'm not going down this path of Darnold isn't impressive, not a franchise QB or whatever. The kid can play. He's going to be an excellent NFL QB. He's legit. The entire league knows it. He was the best QB in that class in my opinion and will prove that out. He didn't play great yesterday - but it wasn't all on him at all. He wasn't horrible either. The game plan was not particularly good, and the pass protection was a mess, and that's a tough defense. He'll figure it out. He's the real deal. We saw that last year, and he's going to be better this year.
The o-line, that was the first time that unit played together in a game, ever. There were bound to be a mistakes, especially against a defense like that. But there's a lot of room for improvement, and they are nowhere close right now.
The defense was superb until they lost Williams and Mosley. After that, there was a huge drop off. That's a problem.
The kicking situation is ridiculous. Thanks Mac for that one. Stupid, short sighted, bad personnel decision. You have a kicker that can kick in that stadium, you keep them. Period. We need to fix that one today. That can't wait.
It's one game - but the upcoming schedule is absolutely brutal - Browns, Pats, Eagles, Cowboys, Pats. That's rough. This was a game we had to have. It puts us in a deep, deep hole already.
Until the Jets prove it on the field, I'm not buying into the hype. But I'm not buying into the "we suck" so fire everybody narrative either. Can we give this coaching staff more than one game? They have a good staff, they have a vision. Let's just let the season play out. Gase needs to coach the offense better. The defense is in good hands. They're going to be fine.
Overreactions are easy, especially for this fan base. I'm pissed off about yesterday too - but I'm not throwing in the towel on the entire season, the coaching staff and the QB after one game. That's ridiculous.
