The Buzz: The Indianapolis Colts come into Monday’s matchup with a 5-6 record, one game back of the AFC South leading Texans. Led by Chuck Pagano, the Colts have won three of their last five games. Indianapolis played without starting QB Andrew Luck on Thanksgiving as it dropped a 28-7 contest to the visiting Steelers. Pagano said Monday he anticipates his star QB, who suffered a concussion in Week 11, to play against the Jets.

The Offense

The Staples: Luck is the captain of an offense that ranks No. 15 in the league (352 yards per game) with the No. 11 passing attack (257 yards per game). This season, the fifth-year veteran has thrown for 2,827 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 62.9% of his passes for a passer rating of 94.0. The Stanford product can tuck it if needed — he’s second on the team in both rushing attempts (51) and yards (246). Luck is averaging 4.8 yards per carry and has recorded 13 rushing touchdowns in his career.

Luck’s primary option is speed receiver T.Y. Hilton. Hilton ranks No. 5 in the league in receiving yards with 942. He also leads the team in receptions (60) and is T1 with WR Donte Moncreif with five touchdowns. The Florida International product ranks No. 2 in the league with 20 catches of at least 20 yards and has two games this season with over 170 yards receiving.

Mr. Reliable: Frank Gore, the oldest starting running back in the NFL, has been effective for the pass-happy Colts this season. The 12-year veteran leads the team in both attempts and rushing yards with 178 and 670 respectively. Gore has found the end zone four times this season and has started 90 of his last 91 games, dating back to Week 4 of the 2011 season.

The Defense

The Anchors: ILB D’Qwell Jackson is the Colts’ tackling machine. He leads the team with 74 stops and is on pace for 105 tackles on the year. Jackson has recorded at least 100 tackles in five consecutive seasons and has failed to reach that mark just three times in his 11-year career. The Maryland product also has 5.0 TFL, which is T2 with defensive captain Robert Mathis.

OLB Erik Walden is having his best season as a pro since his debut in 2008. Now on his fourth team in nine years, the Middle Tennessee State product has already recorded a personnel best and team-high 8.0 sacks. Walden has tallied at least one sack in four of the last five contests and also leads the team with 8.0 TFL, 12 QBH and two FF.

Special Teams

Indianapolis has one of the best kicker/punter combinations in the league. Ageless wonder K Adam Vinatieri, in his 21st NFL season, is T5 in field goal percentage (90.9). The South Dakota State product has yet to miss an extra point and has missed only missed two field goals the season — one 40-plus yarder and one 50-plus yarder.

P Pat McAfee, known for his exuberant personality off the field, leads the league both in gross average (50.1) and net average (47.0). The eight-year veteran has a long of 74 yards and has booted 13 balls inside the 20-yard line.

Rookie 'Backer Calls Plays and WR Marshall Reviews Enunwa's Growth

Rookie 'Backer Calls Plays and WR Marshall Reviews Enunwa's Growth

The Pup is Getting More on His Plate

In his second game back from an ankle injury, Darron Lee tied for a team-high with 11 tackles and played every defensive snap in Sunday’s 22-17 loss to the Patriots. In some sub packages, Lee was the only linebacker on the field and was therefore given the responsibility of calling the plays, a duty that typically belongs to 10-year vet David Harris.

“A couple times on third down I was a dime linebacker, so I had to make the call,” he said. “I was the only linebacker there. So it was making calls and whatever adjustments to the formation that we were getting. But playing every down, I was fine. I didn’t feel like that was too much. I did that type of stuff when I was in college. I can go all day, I’ll be out there whenever they need me.”

The 6’1”, 232-pounder found himself at the center of attention late in the game as Lee was in coverage on Patriots RB James White’s fourth-down conversion, which later led to WR Malcolm Mitchell’s go-ahead score. Lee said that after watching the film, he wished he took two steps to his left prior to the snap.

“I was giving a show up towards the end in B-gap,” he said. “Just bluffing for a blitz, but we were in man-to-man. Given the splits of the running back, I should’ve been a little wider instead of stunting and showing like I was going to blitz. For me, all I had to do was take two steps wider and I would’ve beat him to the point and he probably wouldn’t have gotten those four yards.”

Age Is Just a Number

This may be WR Brandon Marshall's 11th year in the league, but he is still consistently producing at a high level. In Sunday’s game, he moved into 25th place all-time in receiving yards, surpassing Hall of Famer Michael Irvin. He also extended his streak of consecutive games with a catch to 155, the second-longest active streak in the NFL (Larry Fitzgerald) while finishing the day with six receptions for 67 yards and one touchdown.

“I feel great. My body feels better than it did any other time in the last four years,” he said. “Obviously every year you get banged up. And the guys who are able to consistently at a high level through pain and some of those bumps and bruises, you’re never 100%. So I feel great when I look at the circumstances and physically I feel like I can play well into my mid-30s. No plans on retiring, no plans on switching teams. I’d love to stay here and retire as a Jet. I have to continue to focus on what I can control what I can on and off the field.”

Uncle Brandon

It’s no secret that receiving counterpart Quincy Enunwa has burst onto the NFL radar this season. Marshall, someone that embraces the role of helping hand, has played a big role in Enunwa’s development. In the latest chapter, Enunwa hauled in an acrobatic 22-yard catch in the back of the end zone, high-pointing the ball over CB Malcolm Butler and landing in bounds thanks to his backside. The second-year player also recorded a 40-yarder en route to his first 100-yard game as a pro.

“Man, I just feel like I proud uncle,” Marshall said. “Obviously he puts in the work, it’s him. He’s a freak, he’s gifted. But to see how far he’s come from last year to this year, talking about the little things. I remember when he first got here, he used to run his routes so hard and so aggressive, I felt like he was going to break his legs on every single route. For us to talk about being smoother in and out of his breaks. Last year, he would run right through a zone and we would sit there and talk about it. We’d pull up film the different things he could get across the middle. He’s done an excellent job of taking what we’re talking about on the practice field, in the meeting rooms and executing on Sundays. It’s awesome to see a guy that you know has potential and really work at it and take it to the next level.”

Status Quo at QB

Head coach Todd Bowles declared QB Ryan Fitzpatrick remains starter for Monday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. Fitzpatrick had his best game of the season against New England, throwing for 269 yards and two touchdowns while completing 68.8% of his passes for a rating of 115.2.

“We’re all fighters. We’re all trying to win every game whether we’re trying to get to 8-8 or 16-0,” Bowles said. “We’re trying to win ball games, it’s not about Bryce or Fitz, it’s about our team trying to win ball games. Right now Fitz is our starter, he gives us a good chance to win.”

Heart in Columbus

A Columbus native and former Buckeye, Lee was asked how the news was broken to him regarding the active shooter on Ohio State’s campus Monday morning.

“Obviously, for those who are affected: my thoughts and prayers are with them and their families,” he said. “One casualty, you don’t want to see that. But I had found out through my friends and I still get the alerts from when I was still there. Obviously it’s a tragedy, it’s terrible.”

Injuries

S Calvin Pryor sustained a concussion in Sunday’s game and DL Steve McLendon has a tight hamstring.

Luck plays, and hopefully, he does, and we lose. If he doesn't, we have a chance of winning.

But the players are chipping in

"Five starters sat out practice Thursday, including wide receiver Brandon Marshall (foot, knee), right tackle Breno Giacomini (back, shoulder), linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin (ankle), nose tackle Steve McLendon (hamstring) and safety Calvin Pryor (concussion). Rookie wide receiver Jalin Marshall (concussion) was also sidelined."

New York Jets football for every fan SUCKS right now. Even if you happen to find every reason to defend Todd Bowles (I can't imagine why), you still have to admit that watching this team is absolutely NOT entertaining in the least little bit. It's got to be like pulling teeth right now to actually get fans to go and sit down for a game?

In every single sense of the word, this team is a joke. Their CS sucks so bad that EVERYTHING has fallen as a direct result of that. Not that I am blaming only the CS either. Mac is borderline incompetent also. TWO drafts now that we've seen this idiot be in charge of and what does he have to show for it? A very good DT that was a no brainer pick and a few decent WR's? Darron Lee sucks and has not helped this team win a single same this season. He'll never be anything more than a part time player. The idea that this little twerp was going to put this defense over the top is the biggest joke I have ever seen. Darron Lee will also NEVER be able to replace David Harris. The front office will end up having to replace Harris via other means. Christian Hackenberg? What can ANYONE say good about that? A complete and total crap shoot? Like buying a lottery ticket that NEVER pays out? The odds are so highly stacked against Hack succeeding that it makes me want to laugh that Mac was so stupid about making that pick. There were SEVERAL different OL Mac could have gone after in the 1st and 2nd rounds. Instead he decided to go the dumb shit route......

Looking Forward to This One

Guess I'm the only one who is looking forward to this game? After all, I get to go to a Monday night NFL game and am guaranteed to have a blast no matter who wins or how inept the team is. It's not life, it's just football.

I think you're being a bit too harsh on Lee. He hasn't made any game breaking plays but so far he's been solid and will only get better. He will be a good starter for many years to come.

We'll win this meaningless game with our journeyman QB at the helm....Yaaaawn.

Jets-24
Colts 20

I doubt we win because this year we are snake bitten. Revis will give 30% and cost us another game or Special teams will fumble the ball or a WR will make a great catch only to have the ball punched out. Look at the Carolina Panthers with the unstoppable Cam Newton this year. They are having the same season. At least we get high draft picks and there's always next year. Enjoy the game.

My hope is the Jets lose so we can get a better pick in the draft and hopefully it will force Woody's hand to make changes to the CS..............I'm a sick bastard that feels that's the only thing to look forward to this season..............

truth be told, it does make me feel like less than a loyal fan hoping we lose out but my reasoning is unwavering & i don't feel the need to validate my love of the jets..

quite simply, losing out (until a QB change) gives us a better chance we see petty & maybe even hackenberg.. better draft position & most importantly, (for me at least) bowles gets relieved of his duties..

Mangold Returns to Action on MNF

Mangold Returns to Action on MNF

AP_898061174999-inactives-top.jpg

No. 74 is back in the middle of things for the Green & White.

Center Nick Mangold, the Jets' seven-time Pro Bowl center who has missed the past four games with the ankle he injured in the home win over Baltimore, is active tonight and ready to snap the ball to QB Ryan Fitzpatrick against Indianapolis at MetLife Stadium on Monday Night Football tonight.

The four-game absence is a career-long stretch for Mangold, who missed only four games due to injury in his first 10 NFL seasons combined.

Mangold will be wearing custom cleats on behalf of Answer the Call — New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund as part of the NFL's "My Cause, My Cleats" campaign, which allows players to wear customized cleats to represent the causes most important to them.

Marcus Williams is also coming back from his own ankle injury, which cost him the past two games, and is active and ready to play vs. the Colts. Marcus trivia: He has the Jets' only first-half takeaway this season, an interception of Andy Dalton on the second drive of the season opener against Cincinnati.

The Jets' complete inactive list:
■ QB Christian Hackenberg
■ WR Devin Smith
■ S Calvin Pryor
■ LB Lorenzo Mauldin
■ G Dakota Dozier
■ WR Jalin Marshall
■ NT Steve McLendon

Rontez Miles is set to start at safety for Pryor. With Mauldin (ankle) out, OLB Mike Catapano is also is being announced as a starter on the defense that will do battle with QB Andrew Luck and the Colts offense.

Head coach Todd Bowles' gamenight captains are S Marcus Gilchrist, RB Matt Forté, Mangold and DL Leonard Williams.

The Jets will be wearing their green jerseys and white pants for the third consecutive game. They lost by 3 to the Rams and by 5 to the Patriots in that combination the previous two weeks after going 5-0 in green/white in Bowles' first season as head coach.

Ron Torbert is tonight's referee. It's his third Jets game as ref after officiating at two games in 2014, including the 16-13 Monday night loss to the Dolphins on Dec. 1 that year.
