Dual Threat

RBs Matt Forté (82 yards) and Bilal Powel (76 yards) had their most productive outing on the ground this season in the Jets’ 31-28 win over the Browns, combining for 158 yards on 31 carries. It marked the first time two Jets running backs had gained at least 75 yards rushing since 2012 (Shonn Greene & Powell).

Forté, who passed Marshawn Lynch for 35th all-time on the NFL’s all-time rushing list, also recorded his 50thand 51st rushing touchdowns. In doing so, Forté became the sixth player in NFL history to amass 9,000 rushing yards, 50 rushing touchdowns and 500 receptions.

Powell put the Jets on the board with a 35-yard touchdown rush in the second quarter, the longest play on the ground for the offense this season. The Louisville product finished the day with a season-high 76 yards on six carries and leads the NFL in yards per rush (7.1) for backs with at least 30 attempts.

Hit the Ground Running

The Jets, who entered Week 7 with two interceptions, have doubled that total over the past two weeks. While turnovers remain a focal point for Todd Bowles, he also stressed the importance of starting fast in his conference call Monday as the Green & White have only scored 26 total points in the first quarter.“Some people try to overdo their jobs and sometimes they make a good play here or there,” Bowles said. “We have to find a way to have better chemistry and get off to a quicker start somehow. Whether we have to run it more to get that extra yard or throw it more, the execution all around needs to be better on both sides.”

Self-Reflection

Jets LB David Harris has seen the good, the bad and the ugly throughout his 10-year career. Entering the second half the 2016 season, Harris took a minute to evaluate the team’s first eight weeks.

“Obviously nobody thought we’d be at this 3-5 mark,” he said. “But guys keep fighting, we’re still playing hard and we’re still going to grind this thing out to the end.”

Scouting the Opponent: Miami Dolphins

The Buzz:
Like the Jets, the Dolphins enter Week 9 on a two-game win streak. Under first-year head coach Adam Gase, Miami sits third in the AFC East with a 3-4 mark. The ‘Phins are coming off their bye week and will conclude a four-game homestand on Sunday.

Offense

The Staples: Fifth-year QB Ryan Tannehill is making a transition under his third offensive coordinator, Clyde Christensen. After finishing No. 9 in the NFL in passing yards last season with 4,208, Tannehill is on pace for a sub-3,500-yard passing season, which what would be his lowest output since his rookie campaign. However, the Texas A&M product is heating up as of late, completing 67.5% of his passes and throwing for 456 yards during the two-game run.

Tannehill’s top weapon is third-year WR Jarvis Landry, who No. 11 in the NFL in receiving yards (572) and tied for sixth in receptions (46). The LSU product has only registered one touchdown catch this season, but Landry is averaging 12.4 yards per catch and has hauled in 11 20-plus yard balls, ranking No. 5 in the league in that category.

Running Down a Dream: RB Jay Ajayi is chasing history against the Green & White’s top ranked rush defense — he’s looking to become the first player in NFL history to rush for at 200 yards in three straight games. Ajayi gained 204 yards and 214 yards in Week 6 and 7 victories over the Steelers and Bills respectively while averaging 26.5 carries and 7.9 yards an attempt. The second-year back leads the NFL’s No. 7 ranked rushing attack.

Defense

The Anchors: In his second year in South Beach, DT Ndamukong Suh is putting together an impressive season. The 6’4”, 305-pounder leads the team with 3.5 sacks, 9 QBH and 4.0 TFL while racking up 32 total tackles.

SS Isa Abdul-Quddus may not be a well-known name around the NFL, but he’s a key cog in a Dolphins secondary that lost starting FS Reshad Jones for the season. Abdul-Quddus is extremely versatile as he leads the team in INT (2) and PD (4) while ranking No. 3 on the Dolphins with 34 total tackles.

Man in The Middle: The heart of the Miami defense is LB Kiko Alonso, whom the team acquired in March via trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. Alonso has excelled in Vance Johnson’s defense, leading the Dolphins with 62 total tackles, four tackles for loss and two FR. The Oregon product is still seeking his first sack of the season.

Jay Ajayi has run for back to back 200+ yard games ...wow, that's impressive. I'm confident our run defense can contain him. But I'm not so confident about Revis containing Jarvis Landry. Revis got taken to school by Terrell Pryor in that first half. That was embarrassing. To his credit, though, Revis held him in check in the 2nd half.

The Jets need to put together a complete game. That Jekyl and Hyde stuff isn't going to work every week.

I also believe we will be able to contain Ajayi... If our team can come out from the start like they played the second half of the Browns' game then we will have a chance...

But I fear like most that this team, especially the so called leaders have packed it in... I could be wrong but the way they carry themselves until one of the younger players make a big play then they decide to step it up is disheartening... As a fan that is why so many of us are depressed because these players display that almost every day...

He had safety help in the second half, Revis didn't fix anything. When your best cb needs help,it hurts your run defense, and means cb2 and 3 have no help.

I love this team, but they stink. It's hard for me to get excited about games, especially with Fitz. Sure, maybe we beat the Phins, but when a good team comes to town we get exposed. The Pats are going to beat us like rag dolls. Our secondary is horrific, linebackers are meh, and why the hell did we resign Mo if it means we play Sheldon out of place????? I was all for the signing, but looks like we should of taken a second or even a third and ran.

Are people truly confident that the Jets will win this game? I know I am not confident. The way this team has played thus far this season, I would not be surprised in the least bit if they lost.

The Dolphins are not a very good team at all, but they play their a$$es off for their coach. I don't believe you can say the same for this team. The Jets are notoriously slow starters and that hasn't since before Rex was around. Bowles has not improved this team at all in that area. The defense is actually playing way below their talent level and that is what I think is the biggest indictment of this HC.

All in all, are you actually confident that the Jets will win this game?

More alarming to me has been the lack of a pass rush. We sacked McCown once on Sunday. And hardly put any pressure on him. Since that opening day jail break against the Bengals when we had like 6 or 7 sacks, our d-line has been quiet. The run defense has been good, but pass rush has been almost non-existent. That's had an effect on the secondary, and vice versa.

It tells me we are predictable and easily schemed. Most teams counter our rush by throwing super quick passes, and because we can't guard WR's,it works.

Our rush isn't good because we are playing 4 interior linemen, which means at least 2 are out of position all game.

Jets will lose this game 27-13. Better QB, RB, defense and probably CS for the Dolphins. Plus their playing at home. Hopefully Fitzhorrible throws 3-4 picks and fumbles 1-2 and they finally bench him for good.

I never want the team to lose but if they come out flat again, I will personally send a letter to Woody telling him that as a fan of 49 years I seen enough bad football for a lifetime - actually its been a lifetime, sigh - and tell him its fking time to get rid of this emotionless stiff of a HC. If anyone wants in and for me to add their feelings with my let me know...

Honestly, I don't go to the stadium hoping to watch us get embarrassed. I like seeing us win. I support the coaches decisions to play the best qb, and our young receivers need the best qb to throw to them.

Just because petty isn't Fitz, doesn't mean he's better.

I hope we make great draft selections no matter where we draft.

You are so right about that and that's why they aren't playing him. Same with Hack and that's a damn shame. On both accounts!

NYJ at Mia: Unstoppable Force vs. Immovable Object

NYJ at Mia: Unstoppable Force vs. Immovable Object

NYJ -- When you think Dolphins, the first thought that comes to mind is Dan Marino. And with a new head coach in Adam Gase, most people anticipated Miami would once again employ a wide-open passing game with QB Ryan Tannehill. But these Dolphins are rare indeed because their preferred movement is on the ground. Behind one of the top offensive lines in football, RB Jay Ajayi churned for 204 yards and 214 yards in Week 6 and Week 7 wins over the Steelers and the Bills respectively. On Sunday, he can become the first NFL player to rush for three consecutive 200-yard games.

But standing in Ajayi’s way is the NFL’s No. 1 ranked rush defense. Only one team has even rushed for 90 yards against the Jets and the Cardinals took advantage of a unit in Week 6 that was missing its heart in MLB
David Harris. Cardinals RB David Johnson had 111 of his club’s 171 yards on the ground, but the Jets have responded in a big way the past two weeks. They held the Ravens to a franchise-low 11 yards in a Week 7 triumph and then limited the Browns to just 68 yards as they ran their win streak to two. The Jets defense has allowed an average of 74 rush yards per game this season and they are limiting backs to just 3.3 yards per attempt.

NYJ @ Mia: Marshall vs. Maxwell

NYJ @ Mia: Marshall vs. Maxwell

NYJ -- During Wednesday’s locker room session with the media, Brandon Marshall said the aforementioned Maxwell held him every single play last season when the corner was an Eagle. Marshall won their Week 3 battle and recorded 10 catches for 109 yards and 1 TD, but Maxwell was on the winning side as the Eagles took home a 24-17 victory. In the offseason, the Eagles traded Maxwell and LB Kiko Alonso to the Dolphins in a trade that featured a swap of first-round picks. Marshall, who was a Dolphin from 2010-11 and still has a home in Miami, totaled 167 catches, 2,228 yards receiving and 9 TDs in his two years in South Florida. This will mark Marshall’s first game against his former team back in Miami.
