Weekly Power Rankings ........

I'm slightly reluctant to bestow such honors on the Jets so early. They've only played 2 games against legitimately "dysfunctional" organizations. With that said, their week 3 opponent might be more dysfunctional than all of the rest.

All these writers, should be asking to see more from the Jets before they sing their praises. After all, this team was 4-12 just last season.

Listen, for me, I am not expecting miracles from this team this season. Very clearly the Jets biggest test in the 1st half is week 7 against the Patsies. I don't expect them to win that game to be "proven". I'm just thinking they should be competitive and a very tough team to beat up until that game given their opponents. I'm thinking 5-1 is a REASONABLE expectation.

power rankings is something for us as fans to have fun with &/or get POed about..

as long as coach bowles keeps his team aware of that, being "ranked" 1 to 32 in these polls is OK with me..

Here's reality MJ: that would make about 28 teams that are dysfunctional then. @ least two of teams we will have played after week 3 were supposed to be SB contenders. I am not ready to call the Jets world beaters but I am certainly happy with their current direction. I think everyone is just surprised that we are finally a cohesive, well coached veteran unit. Yes, 5-1 would be great!

Yes the ranking jumps show how little the experts know going into any season. They feel free to anoint playoff teams and trash talk rebuilding teams, but just prove that they really have no clue.

These rankings are based on what teams look like AT THE MOMENT. That's why a 4-12 team earned a low ranking, whereas a 2-0 team makes the Top 10.

Let's just enjoy the fact that we're currently playing like a top 10 team. If we take care of a struggling Philly team we'll (deservedly) move even higher. If we come down to earth we'll be more middle of the pack.

It's not exactly rocket science . . .

I think most people realized the Jets were going to have a good defense, and a good running game.

The main reason the Jets were ranked in the mid 20's was because the worst QB in the NFL was projected to return as starter. Fitz was a giant ?. Two weeks before the season begun Bowles said they were bringing QB's in because they weren't sure Fitz's leg was going to be ready for opening day.

Fitz has put up the best back to back QB's numbers since 2008. They have just beaten a team that played in the AFC championship game on the road. People are starting to think the Jets are for real.

Bowles has to keep the team from getting full of all these ratings.

This is the reason the Jets are ranked where they are right now. Only Jets fans are fretting about Fitz's performance on Monday. The Closing comment on the sustainability is accurate. They have to keep Fitz upright, and all these nagging injuries have to let up.

RANKING THE NFL’S TOP 10 QBS ENTERING WEEK 3

Steve Palazzolo updates the top 10 QB rankings after Week 2, and goes in-depth on some of the most compelling performances.

STEVE PALAZZOLO | 22 HOURS AGO (AP Photo/Tom E. Puskar)(AP Photo/Tom E. Puskar)
Week 2 saw more of the same at the top of the charts, as there are three quarterbacks playing above the rest of the league. On the other hand, early-season injuries have sidelined two of the league’s top 10 quarterbacks, while a number of new names are standing at the doorstep to move up in the rankings.

Here’s a look at the updated top 10 quarterbacks by PFF rating.

*Note: PFF ratings are not an indication of just this season — they take each player’s last 32 games into consideration with higher weighting to the most recent games. We left in Drew Brees and Tony Romo to show where they rank, even though both might be out with injuries this week.

1. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers, 94.8
This was another stellar performance for Rodgers, who overcame more pressure than he’s used to facing to throw for four touchdowns with no interceptions. Not only has Rodgers not thrown an interception this season, he hasn’t put the ball in harm’s way once in his two games.

2. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers, 89.5
No QB is throwing the deep ball like Roethlisberger, and he leads the league with 11 big-time throws (BTTs) through two games. He has 10 completions for 406 yards on passes thrown at least 20 yards in the air – the next closest QB in yards on those throws is Blake Bortles with 185.

3. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints, 87.6
Now that we know Brees was dealing with a shoulder injury, it helps to explain his lackluster performance that saw him have no zip on the ball while throwing a number of dangerous passes into coverage. He could miss some time with the injury.

4. Tom Brady, New England Patriots, 85.3
Brady was fantastic against the Bills, picking them apart with the quick passing game while sprinkling in a few big-time throws down the field. Perhaps most impressive about Brady’s season: he has yet to have a turnover-worthy pass (TWP) on his 95 dropbacks.

5. Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers 84.0
It’s been a mediocre start to the season for Rivers, who was unable to complete the comeback Sunday as he forced an ill-advised pass right to linebacker Vincent Rey for a game-winning interception. Other than that, he got away with a couple other interception-worthy throws and finished with an inflated passer rating of 113.1.

6. Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons 82.6
Speaking of comebacks, Ryan completed his by throwing a strike to Julio Jones late in the fourth quarter to set up the game-winning score. He connected with Jones 13 times for 135 yards, as the pair continues to develop offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan’s new offense.

7. Teddy Bridgewater, Minnesota Vikings, 82.4
A new member of the top-10, Bridgewater continued his strong play that dates back to the second half of last season. That’s when he started to make a few more big-time throws every game, and he sprinkled in a few with pinpoint accuracy against the Lions on Sunday.

8. Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys, 82.1
The second member of the top 10 to go down due to injury, Romo’s broken clavicle will keep him out for an extended period of time. He was having an average game before fumbling on the play that led to the injury.

9. Ryan Fitzpatrick, New York Jets, 81.6
Another new name for the list, Fitzpatrick quietly played solid football for the Houston Texans last year and he’s continued it this year with the Jets. History has shown that sustainability has been the issue for Fitzpatrick, but for now, he’s doing his job and moving the chains for the Jets.

10. Peyton Manning, Denver Broncos, 81.5
It’s been a tough fall for Manning, who once again didn’t look like his old self against the Chiefs on Thursday night. Despite the comeback and impressive finish, we counted four more interceptions that could have been, in addition to the pick-6 that he threw, so Manning is really going to need to change his style once again in order to adjust to his limitations.

It scares me when the media starts singing our praises. As I said in the Jets/Eagles thread, this is how the media fattens up the calf for the slaughter. They tell you that you've arrived before you've arrived, and the minute you believe them, you are ripe to get beaten. Its exactly what they did to Buffalo following their opening day win over Indy. I couldn't even watch the pregame shows because they wouldn't shut-up about how great Buffalo is and how they represent a real threat to the Patriots, implying they were ready to make a statement by beating the Pats in Buffalo, and you could see that all of Buffalo was buying in, players, fans, you name it, they were talking like the Bills defense was the 85 Bears, and what happened, the Patriots dropped 40 on them with about 550 Yards of total offense. IOW's the Bills were fattened up for the slaughter.

Then what happens next, after the media has fattened you up for the kill?

They pack-up the truck, skip town, treat you like yesterdays news, and look for their next victims.

And guess who that is this week?

Just look at the gigantic leap the Jets have taken in all of these rankings, including the QB rankings!

I just hope we keep grinding, peddle to the metal, and don't listen to the hype. Don't forget that this same media was calling us garbage two weeks ago, and you can bet they'll be calling us garbage again the moment we lose a football game.

IDK Ham. The media is paid to write and talk. The players are paid to play. It's the HC's job to keep the team focused on doing their jobs, not on what the media is saying.

One of the things I really love about Bowles is how even keel he is and how his team is already reflecting his demeanor.

Nobody was acting like we accomplished anything after either of these first two wins, not even after dismantling Andrew Luck @ Indy. They were saying all the right things; we haven't accomplished anything, we need to clean up the mistakes, need to score more points off of turnover, need to put this one behind us and get ready for the Eagles on a short week, etc.

These are all of the things you hear from the Patriots after a win, any win, any game, they don't get too high or too low and they are never satisfied with themselves. Thats why I'm not as nervous as I would be about the media singing our praises if, oh say, Rex was still the coach. Rex was a sucker for this kind of trap, he would totally feed into it.

Agree

it was an old Parcels tactic after a good game to criticize the team to keep them from getting big heads, and after a bad game to point out the good points to prevent them from falling into a funk.

Bowels is a Parcels disciple. He's not as aggressive personality wise as Bill was, but I think he is going to use the same motivating tools. JMO

Your post couldn't possibly more true. Media 'experts' are not even as smart as ordinary fans.

The Colts/Luck and Seahawks/Russell were picked for Super Bowl caliber teams this based on they're super teams/quarterbacks. All of the aforementioned are slugs.

The Jets are being picked high because of their defense, but the real key to this year's success will be head coach and quarterback.

Wonder how much we drop in the power rankings this week? If I'm correct we went up 9 slots last week to around #7-9 . I say we drop to around 13-15. Jets gets shown no love really ever so a drop of 1 or 2 slots just doesn't seem possible.

Who cares, you actually think power rankings mean anything? They're only there to get you to read them.
At the beginning of the season these guy were picking the Pats and Brady to be 5th behind Greenbay who didn't even get to the Super Bowl last year, the Seahawks who lost in the Super Bow last year, the Colts/Luck who are 0 - 4 against the Pats, and Denver who got whipped in the Super Bowl by the Seahawks, don't even bother reading what they said about the Ravens, who have now fallen off the face of the earth.
That was intelligent forecasting? Stop reading that crap.

Now you see how ridiculous that top 10 ranking was? The NYJ showed their true colors. It clearly indicates that they do not belong in the top 10. They have a LONG way to go before they can legitimately be called top 10. Top 10 defense? Sure. Top 10 TEAM? Not even close.

Flawed teams or teams that are not used to success have a difficult time dealing with prosperity, thats why it really scared me when the media started singing our praises and we were cranking the TOP 10 in plenty of power rankings. If you read my first post in this thread you will see that all of my worst fears were realized.

Ham, I've never doubted your sincerity. You were always a very good poster even back in Jetsinsider days. And yes, I do see that all of your fears were realized. But it's really everyone's fears. Most of the posters on this site have doubts but they're never willing to voice. Somehow they believe that is some sort of taboo thing. But they thought about ridiculousness of the medias claims. Unfortunately, they were all realized.

But all is not lost either. We just found out that we are not nearly as good as the weekly power ranks were indicating and that's more or less what we expected this season. We're still rebuilding right now. We found out a lot about this team yesterday.

We are very thin in the WR department. We found out that Devin Smith needs to be coached up hard this week, We found out that past Colon we have ZERO competent depth along the OL. We saw all of the limitations of our QB.

But once again this was all known before the season began if the fans were being honest with themselves.

I like the track this team is on. I thought MacCagnan did an excellent offseason job for the team. But he couldn't possibly fix everything in one offseason. He needs more time.

I think the 2016 draft should be all about offense. I'm talking QB, OL, WR, TE, maybe a FB? What do you think?
