The Jets have signed TE Ryan Griffin to a multi-year extension.

Griffin, who signed with the Jets July 22, has started all 10 games this year and leads the team with a career-high four touchdowns. The 29-year-old has reeled in 25 catches for 225 yards.

Griffin, a seventh-year pro from UConn, was drafted by the Texans in 2013 and has a career 1,760 yards and 11 touchdowns on 161 receptions.

With all the turmoil with Q, Osemele and probably others, this is the type of signing that shows the locker room if you do your job and perform then you get rewarded.

Nothing against the kid, but why? Performance in two games against bad teams? I never get why this team extends people before the end of the season and seeing the entire body of work. What's the rush; teams clamoring for him to sign with them? No matter the GM/HC, our guys keep doing the same dumb stuff.

its more about winning the locker room that we will take care of you if you do your job...

plus who knows what it will be with Chris Herndon, two season both end on IR, not a good start for his career...

Sam Darnold has built chemistry with Griffin, so securing him shows Sam that they want to keep him comfortable and continue to succeed with talent around him... The only thing Griffin isn't a young puppy, so multi-year means what? (3,4,5) Hope it was only extended for 2 at the most...

I get all this. I just feel like what's the rush? Over the next six games the kid has 10 drops and/or does absolutely nothing. Then what? Just let the season play out. As I said, teams are at the doorstep waiting to pounce? Come on.

Griffin is a well rounded tight end, hard to find a run blocker that can catch... He did well for us this season exceeding his normal average while gaining the trust of Sam, it might of been a rush signing but think of this as inevitable signing and this front office might of just did a PR move doing it now to get more +++ points... Who knows maybe JD was bored and figured why not now...

That's what I was thinking his age is a concern,,,,time will tell

Just saw that the team put Griffin on IR. Classic. I'm sure the kid comes back as good as new. But as I said in the thread, why not wait until the season ends before extending him?
