ESPN -- As Bill Parcells used to say, you're either getting better or getting worse; you never stay the same.

The Jets have to evaluate the roster with that in mind.

They need to take a hard look at the offensive line, which has three starters in their 30s.

The right side needs an upgrade.

A fast running back, a competent tight end and two linebackers (inside and outside) are items on the wish list.

The Jets have a good team; making it very good is the objective.

I think off season they will make one or two roster moves to bring in a WR that can be both KR & PR...

Actually hoping they trade for Codarrelle Patterson of the Minnesota Vikings he could be that guy...

I think both of you guys are right on the money. I've gotta believe that Pace is finally done; his lack of speed was painfully obvious on a couple of plays where he was in perfect position to make plays behind the LOS and his body betrayed him. It's also time to draft or sign a young FA OT who can replace Breno. It will also be interesting what they do at QB after Fitz. Have they seen enough in camps and practices to anoint Petty the #2, or do they dip into the draft pool for another option? Gotta believe Geno will be traded or dumped. Should also be interesting to see what we do at CB in the event Cro is a salary cap casualty. In an ideal world Dee should be the guy who replaces him, but his inability to stay healthy may find him on the street. Finally, in retrospect how lucky were we that Leonard Williams fell into our hands in last years draft. With Mo's injury and Sheldon's probable additional suspension, we will be dangerously thin along the defensive front next year.

Marcus Williams is the next guy up... Leads the team with interceptions, being a role player that is dominance and deserves a chance at the starting job...

Dee Milliner's contract is fully guaranteed next season and if he can not stay healthy like Quinton Coples they will waive him mid season... He has the talent, let's not get that wrong... I was thrilled we drafted him knew his durability issues could be a concern but with the rookie salary cap set it was a risk well worth taken... Basically had potential of evolving into the next Revis if he could stay healthy but since he is made of glass he is likely done with us...

Dexter McDougle has proven he can play... He has the ability to play outside but looks better inside... With that saying maybe moving Buster Skrine to coverage safety might be a better fit...

Marcus Gilchrist has play outstanding for us this year but he is NO coverage safety...

I am stoked to see Calvin Pryor to have a rebound season from the rookie year...

Cromartie likely will be a cap casualty, even if he is willing to restructure he is done...

Darrelle Revis has lost a step, but all season long people have been bitching not realizing he was playing the system that was installed... Just not having the proper coverage over the top when he thought it would be - miscommunication or missed assignments by others made him look bad... Like in the Buffalo game week 17 he was in a zone off man coverage supposedly with under coverage that was M.I.A. by the OLB or safety...

This secondary would do good adding someone this off season... But the person they add needs to be a known special teams addition... Justin Bethel, Cardinals ex-Bowles corner could be an option... There are going to be plenty others... We could retain Darrin Walls but he for some reason he had no role on defense, writing on the wall I suppose...

Finally, in retrospect how lucky were we that Leonard Williams fell into our hands in last years draft. With Mo's injury and Sheldon's probable additional suspension, we will be dangerously thin along the defensive front next year.

Well last year were a few teams ahead of us that took for need, as most here would disagree rather taking BPA... Yes we took BPA, because there was no offer good enough to trade down... Looking at the financials of this off season was also the main reason they took Williams because they had a feeling that preliminary view was one or two could be gone... So, yes we were lucky that some teams alla the Washington Redskins took OG Brandon Scherff rather than DE Leonard Williams...

I think we have some needs that can easily be addressed thru draft and FA. With I believe 7 picks ( 1,2,3,4,6,7,7 we can get what we need in the draft. and should draft in this order

1 - WR - Looking at the value a better WR will be here then our next need
2 - Pass Rush OLB
3 - ILB
4 - OT
6 - WR/RB that is an exceptional KR/PR guy
7 - OG
7 - ILB

Free Agnecy Guys I think we can target (including our own) that might change the draft board a bit but here is who I'd like us to make a run at:

1 - Bilal Powell: He fits what Chan likes to do perfectly... The offense is much better with him
2 - Alshon Jeffery: Call Me Crazy but if we have the Cap room he is the perfect guy tto play outside with Marshall and Decker in the slot I'm sure we won't and most likely don't have the cap for him but I can dream
3 - Marvin Jones/Leonard Hankerson - Either one will do if my dream of Jeffery stays a dream. Similar size and skill set, if they are healthy they fit great with Marshall and Decker.
4 - Mo Wilk - pay the man.
5 - Douzable - guy is perfect in the roll he plays for us
6 - Vinny Curry - in pass rush situations this guy in Bowles scheme could be a 10-13 sack guy.

Just my thoughts

Number 1 priority is an OFFENSIVE CORD. Jets have one of the best talented Offenses, but don't use all them & def don't use our best players in crucial situations. Besides that a good true RB behind Ivory, TE even though Gailey doesn't use them, & O-Lineman.

WE need to find Bricks replacement, RT too. We need speed at LB badly... I would put Crow at FS and move williams to his spot across form Revis. AS for Millner he showed good coverage skills in the last part of his rookie season but the guy can not stay healthy... iF I was the coach I would sit him down and strongly suggest that he go train - with revis or anyone to get him in playing shape - in the off season. I am not sure about McD in the slot .. I just haven't seen enough of his abilities and therefore; unless proven otherwise, keep Buster there. Problme is what do you do with

AS for TE - Why not put another lineman out there since Gaily never uses them except to block which none did well anyway... just s thought. H back is covered with Ewa and Jace A coming back.

Sign Powell he proved his worth this year and frankly IMHO every year he has been here but they never used him enough. Ivory... maybe but not sure... Team will be different next year that is for sure.

Just my thoughts

Our picks this year are not 1,2,3,4,6,7,7 this was last year lmao
this year picks are 1,2,3,4,5,7 - 6th pick for Fitzpatrick

Draft

  1. Yes on WR
  2. 2nd Rd should be OL - OG/OT
  3. 3rd Rd should be OL -OT/OG
  4. 4th Rd also could be OL - OC or this is where we can get a DE/OLB
  5. 5th Rd RB
  6. no 6th
  7. 7th Rd SAF

Team FAs

  1. Agree on Powell, no way we are getting Jeffrey...
  2. MJ/Hankerson again not happening...
  3. Wilk should get paid regardless of this injury... Depending on the severity and recovery time the Jets could get lucky and offer this type of deal where it is team friendly full of incentives and signing bonus to sign the contract in the first leaving us with plenty of cap space to make other moves, but the real contract starts in year 2 on...
  4. Agree on Douzable, but Vinny Curry not going to happen... Someone like Derrick Shelby and/or Olivier Vernon ties to Bowles from days in Miami is an option...

we could go OL 3 times this draft

Kyle Murphy Stanford fits the best of the top 6 Tackles even tho he is ranked as the 8th OT, two of them translate better to interior lineman moving Murphy up the ranks... If we miss on him, then 9th OT Joe Haeg from North Dakota State is also an option...

The Jets would do to get a well round right guard, now we can do this in free agency or in the draft... In the draft the best interior lineman Landon Turner out of North Carolina is ranked as the 3rd best... But his talents translates to our scheme...

Like someone else mentioned Jake Allen, center from Michigan State could be a great understudy for Nick Mangold and could be his heir apparent...

But all in all offensive line needs to be finally our focus this year...

I do feel we should grab a WR with our first specifically Corey Coleman not because of his ties to our current rookie QB Bryce Petty but it also helps bringing in chemistry for him to eventually to take the reigns... With Gailey moving Decker inside we need a outside receiver to be a threat along side Marshall... Yea right Devin Smith, could be our return specialist while earning the 4th receiver job...

WE don't have a 5th rd pick because of Marshall but we did get a 7th from Chicago in the Marshall deal...

So it's a

There's two things I always look at - the offensive line and getting to the opposing QB. The Jets O-line was very serviceable but could always use an upgrade in talent. However, their linebackers need more help than any unit on the team. We have absolutely no speed in coverage and none of them can consistently get to the passer (there might be hope with Mauldin). Hate the fact that we are in zone coverage more often than not and a lot of that reason is our linebackers lack of speed and inability to get to the passer.

the 5th for Marshall was last year imo...

our draft board last year was:

1. Leonard Williams
2. Devin Smith
3. Lorenzo Mauldin IV
4. Bryce Petty
5. Traded to Bears for Marshall
5. Acquired Pick from Texans - drafted Jarvis Harrison
7. Deon Simon

The Jets traded up one slot early in the fourth round for Petty. They gave up just a seventh round pick they acquired in their third round trade down. As for this year we give Texans a 6th for Fitzpatrick... So we have 6 picks: 1,2,3,4,5,7 here is last years breakdown:

Seahawks receive:
» 2015 sixth-round pick (No. 181): Traded to Redskins

Short Term needs:
RT - Breno, nuff said
LT - only if we can't come to terms with Brick
OLB - Pace is older than dirt
MLB - Harris is getting up there, Davis is as good as he gets and ain't that good
PR & KR
Better O-line depth

Long Term:
O-Line - Brick needs a replacement, Mangold can't last forever.
QB - Fitz is old, Petty may never turn into an NFL quarterback

I was listening to Mel Kiper talk about Bryce Petty a couple of weeks ago, and he feels (for what its worth) that Petty has the arm, size, intelligence, work ethic and leadership makeup that should translate to success as a franchise QB in the NFL. The key for him is patience. Who knows for sure, but it was at least encouraging to hear that.
