Maybe if he got slammed as hard as Darnold will be because of a mediocre (at best) o-line, he would come to his senses.
Later
The Jets were 13th in sacks allowed in the league last year. If they were bad, what does that say about the 19 teams worse than them?
It doesn’t matter what Macc does. Don’t you see? He’s going to get continuously slammed by his detractors over picks that didn’t line up with draft guides.
This is an endless merry go round.
The same can be said for Mac's supporters. He can do no wrong.
That's a very misleading stat. An immobile quarterback like , oh let's say, Tom Brady, would have been sacked way more behind our offensive line (and probably set a record for fumbles too) while Sam did a pretty good job running for his life and avoiding sacks.
just as you say Brady's line is not great because Brady was sacked x number of times but truth is that stat is again misleading because if Brady is sacked 10 times a season, he is probably only pressured 11 times in the season and may not ever even have been touched as he always falls to the ground if a defender gets anywhere near him
Our offensive line is not very good. I think just about everyone can agree on that
I do, however, agree with you about Mac not being at total fault for everything that is wrong in Jet land
And the truth is very much in the middle.
Ham, I agree with your initial post for this thread 100 percent but allow me to take it a step further:
I’m not a college guy so please forgive me if I’m wrong and correct me as well. What bothered me the most about the draft is besides Williams and maybe Polite, it doesn’t seem like he picked the best players available at the positions he drafted them. I’m not talking about him drafting other position players beside who he drafted. I’m simply talking about him drafting higher graded players at each draft pick besides Williams and maybe Polite.
No I can’t give you the names of each player that would have been better or rated higher then the ones he drafted. However; from what I’m reading from you guys and going off the pundits ratings of players, besides Williams and maybe Polite, Mac did not draft the best players at the position he drafted them. Overall, Mac seemed to have reached quite a bit from the fourth round picks on, maybe even the Polite pick.
Polite has the potential to be an All-pro or better it appears. They said if it wasn’t for his attitude and off the field issues, he would he been a first round grade. So there probably wasn’t a ER available rating higher then him to draft. However; he is a big boom or bust risk player. So let’s all hope for the BOOM!
The oline men was a much needed pick but there were higher ranked oline men on the board to draft. Why didn’t Mac draft one of them? I guess it’s the relationship and familiarity he has with Darnold. That doesn’t mean it will transition into the NFL. Hopefully this kid turns out to be what we need.
Tresco pick was the same deal. I’m sure there had to have been better rated or at least one better rated TE then Tresco? His highlights look great so maybe he will turn out to be the real deal. The fact that he is a primary blocking TE and played a fair amount of FB, that should help the team greatly.
The CB is a true reach because of the injury risk. He has the size and skill set they say to be a true player but his INJURIES were serious business. If he’s truly recovered and can stay healthy then we may have ourselves a player but that is a big IF.
That other LB we drafted seemed to be totally unnecessary, unwarranted and overkill. Was this kid even worth drafting? Would anyone else have drafted him or could we have signed him as a UDFA? Will this kid even make the team or practice squad? Oh, did I forget to mention that this kid also has an injury history!!!
Overall, Mac seemed to reach on 4 and maybe even five of his picks and that ain’t good. That’s definitely not drafting smart. Adding salt to the wound was the two trades he made to draft these reach players. Let’s all hope it works out.
Macc needed to address the line and he failed at it. The Oline makes a huge difference.
I was bored one day so I went back and rewatched the Texans and Packers games at the end of the season. I thought those were the two best games of Darnold’s young career.
He was running for his life those games and made it work with his feet. The good news is that Darnold is mobile. I just fear he is going to get pooped hard when he’s running out and about and he will get hurt.
Macc needed to address the line and he failed at it. The Oline makes a huge difference.
We need to give these guys a chance but if something happens I hope they visit the D man in the Hospital
Brick, If we had 3rd graders on the Offensive line you would still say there is no problem with the Oline. We picked up KO from the Raiders. All-Pro this All-Pro that. The Raiders said he gave up on them last year. They couldn't wait to get rid of him. Now we have him and your all are saying "we got an All-Pro". We got nothing! Put up or shut up! That's what I think of KO. I still don't know where you think our Run Blocking was good last year. We weren't that good and won't be this year. I complain about the Offensive Line every year. Why? Because we don't Draft early solid OL. We don't even sign or trade for quality players up front. Its time the Macc fiasco came to an end!
there have been a number of posters who have posted various scouting reports on these guys which make your claims false.
PFF had very high grades on a few of them. they had edoga as the #64 playeer (got him at 92) and cashman at the #59 player (that's a 2nd round grade) and they got him at 157.

Day 1:
New Jets interior defender Quinnen Williams was a no-brainer pick for New York. PFF’s No. 3 overall player in the class, Williams earned the highest grade we’ve ever given to a college interior defender (96.0) in his lone season as a starter at Alabama.
“He’s freakishly athletic. He knows how to use his hands at an elite, elite level already. I don’t know how he didn’t play at all a year before.” – Pro Football Focus’ Lead Draft Analyst Mike Renner
Day 2:
Florida edge defender Jachai Polite fell in the draft in wake of poor athletic testing and interviews at and after the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine. However, before any of that happened, he was considered a first-round pick by many because of his outstanding play on the field. He earned the fourth-best pass-rush grade (90.9) among qualifying edge defenders in the draft class in 2018.
USC’s Chuma Edoga is slightly built and needs to add more muscle to his frame, but he is already stingy in pass protection. He allowed just four pressures last season, and he entered the draft as PFF’s No. 64 overall player in the class, so scooping him up at No. 92 was a value play for the Jets.
Day 3:
Trevon Wesco, a physical, aggressive run-blocking tight end with great size for the position, is a solid pick for the Jets. But it’s the Blake Cashman pick at No. 157 for the Jets that takes the cake as the team’s best selection on Saturday.
Cashman earned a 90.0-plus overall grade this past season and tested out as one of the most athletic linebackers in the class at the combine en route to the No. 59 overall spot on PFF’s big board.
Did you actually read my post?
I said the run blocking was bad. And improvements were needed. KO gave up on the Raiders?? That’s the first I’ve heard of that.
Because I don’t join this blame game of “Macc’s the problem and needs to be shit canned” mentality, I get labeled an extreme apologist for the guy. But when people blame him for everything, that’s rational thought apparently.
I heard during Draft night that KO quit on the Raiders last year. I have an on going fued with you every year at this time. Its all in fun Brick. I know you support the Offensive line. I just think that we drafted Darnold and signed one of the best RB in the league. I figured we would go out and put together a good OL. I remember a few years ago when we drafted Lee. Prior to drafting him, Macc tried his best to trade up with Miami to draft Laremy Tunsil. So Macc has tried. Instead of drafting Hackenberg, he should have packaged our 1st and 2nd to move up. My bad on the run blocking..
Failed? I think that’s reaching. Kelechi Osemele is a pretty damn good Guard. And he picked up a FA depth player (Compton) and drafted a Tackle in the 3rd round.
I would’ve preferred a player like Paradis or Morse at center, but failed?
